  • Outstanding - and it Does Work on a Toro Timecutter Series ZTR Mower!
Reviewed many options to address my aching lower back after any use of my ZTR mower - (i.e. hire a lawn service - but I enjoy cutting my lawn, purchase a new mower with an air-ride suspension seat, replace seat with suspension seat, take pain killers, etc.). After much research and learning that most suspension seats actually have a suspension unit like this one at the base of the seat and since my current seat is in excellent condition, I decided to try this option rather than spend many time more for the seat/suspension unit combo. When the suspension kit arrived, I immediately unboxed it and read the instructions several times to became familiar with how the unit functions and how it is to be installed. I also viewed videos and read reviews found on Amazon. I also sent a message to the seller (TICSEA) for any additional installation information. They were gracious and promptly sent additional installation information that was more detailed that those that came with the kit. Steps I followed were as follows: Note: While the components have pre-drilled holes for easy installation for certain lawn mowers, for my Toro Timecutter MX5050 74770, none of the holes matched up. If this is your case, worry not, pop a cold beer and fear not: 1) Remove current seat from your lawn mower. Also, layout all the hardware components included with the suspension kit and group the items together (i.e. short 5/16" bolts from medium and long 5/16" bolts, washers, spacers, nuts and adjustment knob and spring clip. note: This is the first time any vendor has included one count extra of everything sent in case one is damaged or goes missing! 2) Measure the mowers seat mounting base plate. For my Toro, it was 13-1/2" X 19". I then used the packing box to cut out a piece of the same dimensions (had to tape two pieces together). This will later be used to make a template for drilling the required holes into the seat mounting base plate. 3) I turned the suspension kit upside down and began mounting the sliders to the appropriate mating surface. Note: There are three sets of holes for each slider that can be used. I had to play around with placement to finally get the optimum width that would fit my 13-1/2" wide seat mounting base plate and yet still provide a safe margin on either side of the bolt (I did not want it too close to the edge nor did I want it too close to a preexisting slot in the seat mounting base plate). To get the fit I wanted, I had to set one slider to the middle position and the other slider to the inner-most position that gave me a 12" center-to-center hole measurement. With this information, I was able to mark holes on the cardboard template: (13-1/2" - 12" = 1-1/2"). The 1-1/2" was divided by 2 to give me 6/8" (the distance each hole-center will need to be from the edge. The distance length-wise between the holes (center-to-center) was 11". So 19" - 11" = 8". Taking 8" and dividing by two gave me the distance from each end for the hole placement. So in summary, I took the 13-1/2" X 19" cardboard rectangle and made holes along the length that were 4 inches from each end and 5/8" from the outer edge. I took a single hole punch and punched the four holes as measured. When this was laid on the seat mounting plate of the mower, I used a sharpee and marked the holes using my cardboard template. Once I saw where the holes should go, I put pieces of masking tape over each hole and remarked them using the template. I removed the template and carefully drilled my holes. Note: The tape helps to keep the drill bit from "skating" when drilling precision holes. I used a 5/16" bit and saved the 3/4" bit that came with the hardware for enlarging any of the holes it slightly off during installation of the suspension kit. 4) I also made a template for the suspension kit's seat plate that must be removed via the four screws (1/2" hex-head). I took a sheet of clear, thin, plastic film and cut it to the dimensions of the suspension mounting plate. I then placed the plastic film onto the bottom of my lawn mower's seat to find out where the bolt holes need to be and marked them with my shapree. I used the plastic film with the bolt holes marked as a template to mark where the holes will need to be drilled in the suspension kit seat mounting plate. I carefully marked and drilled the required holes. Go ahead and mount the suspension kit's seat plate to the bottom of you mower's seat and lay to the side. 5) I mount the suspension kit to my mower's seat mounting base plate and all holes lined up perfectly. I tightened down the screws without incident. 6) My Toro seat mounting base plate allows you to rotate it upward from the rear. I rotated it upward with the suspension kit attached (without seat at this time), to figure out how I wanted to thread the wire that supplies power to the seat cutoff switch (many short it and move on - not recommended for safety reasons). I had to make a 8" extension to go with the one the vendor supplies for this purpose. Go ahead and route it before installing the seat and rotate the seat mounting plate with the suspension kit back into the down position. 7) Gently place the seat w/mounting plate on the edge of the top of the suspension kit where it will be lined up and mounted. However, before you line everything up, go ahead and plug in your power supply to the bottom of the seat (it should have a fairly large cutout for this purpose). Once plugged up, carefully line it up, put your four screws in and ENJOY your new suspension seat!!! Note: Do not forget to install you adjustment knob and the spring clip. I adjusted my seat such that when sitting on it, the travel is in the middle of the travel. Yesterday when mowing my yard it was unbelievable, even going over some tree roots was smooth. So far I am very impressed with this seat and only hope that it maintains its efficiency in absorbing harsh bumps and turns your lawn mower experience into a ride akin to your uncle's '64 Lincoln. Note: Due to the seat sitting somewhat higher due to the suspension kit and my athletic thighs, I did order some lap bar extenders to raise the bars for that last ounce of added comfort. So far my I am extremely pleased with this suspension system and can attest - my back did not hurt after three hours of cutting my yard. That says it all! Good luck... ... show more

  • High Quality, No Difficulty Installing High Quality, No Difficulty Installing
Mounted on a Cub Cadet ZTXS5. I recommend buying the suspension with the slider rather then trying to use the Cub Cadet slider that came with the mower. The ZTXS mowers come in 3 models: The 4, 5, and 6. The 6 has a Cub Cadet suspension, The 4 & 5 do not. Instead, Cub Cadet uses two spacer rails under the slider to keep seat height about equal between the models. This suspension does raise the height of the seat, but, removing the spacers keeps the height increase to about 2.5"-3" when seated. I am 76yrs old with both a full hip and full shoulder replacement in the last 8 months and I had no real issue installing this unit by myself. (I do have 50yr experience as a heavy equipment mechanic.) All the existing bolt holes worked with no drilling. Probably the same for other Cub Cadet models. My suggestion for mounting: First, mount the slide rails to the bottom of the suspension. The rail with the handle goes on the operator's right with the handle facing up. Then mount the suspension and rails to the mower's mounting plate. Next, mount the upper plate to the seat bottom. I used the original Cub Cadet bolts and spacers. Make sure the plate is facing in the proper direction. There are two openings in the plate flanges, a large one and a small one. The small one goes to the front. This is where the adjusting shaft comes through. Then mount the seat and plate on the suspension. That's pretty much it, except running the wires for the seat switch. I brought them out the front and then back in next to the adjusting knob. There are 5 wires in the one cable, so the 2 wire extension provided is useless. I may yet re-route my cable. I haven't mowed yet, but, even sitting in my garage with the suspension adjusted to my weight, the difference was amazing. The only conflict I have experienced is that the front of the seat cushion rubs against the adjusting knob and makes adjusting a bit inconvenient. I don't expect to be changing the adjustment though once set. I could have just ordered the suspension that Cub Cadet puts on the 6, but, I doubt that the price would have been anywhere close to this suspension. This unit is very well constructed. If you have a helper then fully assembling the seat and suspension to each other before installing on the mower may work for you. For me, it was easier to install in two pieces. ... show more

  • Great to relieve the shock of a bumpy lawn
Once the seat is installed, you’ll absolutely love it. I have a cub cadet zero turn in the hardest part of installation is installation. The instructions are iffy at best. But if you take your time and look things over, everything goes together really great in the end. The hardest part I had was to remove the cushion from the metal frame on the seat because I needed to use different holes to attach the slide. I would say if you’re not super handy and somewhat mechanical, it may be a tough job. At 69 years old every time I mowed the lawn my back ache because of the bumps and humps. But with this new seat, what a difference it makes it takes away almost all the shock and I don’t feel like I’ve been beaten up when I finished It does sit about 4 inches higher than my old seat and it takes a while to get used to, but the comfort is well worth it. Wish I had done it a few years ago. ... show more

  • Well worth the money if you can adapt it to your equipment.
Directions are not the best, at least for me. Item may need some modification for your equipment, but after looking it over most junior mechanics should figure it out. The unit is very nicely put together otherwise and seems to be good quality with plenty of hardware to get the job done. Haven't had much of a chance to really test it this year yet but it does seem to be very comfortable and back friendly. I did have to extend the control arms of my mower as the unit adds at least 6" to the seat height, which may be a problem for some people. Really looking forward to using it this year. ... show more

  • Works really well!
Made a huge difference in the ride quality of my Cub Cadet zero turn. Easy to assemble and install. One installation issue popped up that the extension that came with the seat for the safety swith had a different style connector, so had to modify to make it work. The other issue is it does ADD about 3 or 4 inches to the ride height, feels a little tall. It needs a recessed seat mount let you mount without the original seat deck. Overall, highly recommend. Took us about 2.5 hours after all was said and done. ... show more

  • Suspension Seat mount works great well-made good price. Suspension Seat mount works great well-made good price.
I was thinking about getting one of these for a while. I am glad I did. It is reasonably priced well-made and works great when cutting grass you just float along and don’t feel any bumps some complain about instructions, but I feel the instructions were adequate. This is something you have to make fit Yourself and instructions really aren’t needed. you do sit higher with this and if you cut a lot of slopes, it may be uncomfortable. My property is mostly flat so it is not a problem. I installed it on an older Ferris. It took about three hours. ... show more

  • Amazing comfort!
What a difference this seat makes! My husband is 74 and we have 3 acres of not real smooth yard to mow. Every time, his back would hurt for several days after mowing. Ordered this hum dinger and he mowed with total comfort. And it slides forward to adjust for my short legs. Really, really a great product. Very happy with it. Just wish they would put the actual instructions on the video with an English speaking person and go slow enough to understand each step. (We got our local shop to put it on for us!) But still worth it and a great, great product! ... show more
