So I'm 71 living in NH using 4 plus cords of hardwood a year. Seems like every year the cords are split coarser and coarser, so it got to the point where i needed to split a good 50% of the delivery to fit effectively in my wood stove. I'm also told stubborn and old school is a description of me... so when i decided the splitting maul was becoming a bit much, i thought log splitter... well try to find one to rent for under $100 a day up here... plus gas, plus trailering plus getting it near the wood. I broke down and thought, well for $400 it'll pay for itself in a year or two.... if it works. Well, it shipped in days (thank you UPS), arrived in pristeen shape, easy to set up, easy to use. I'd read reviews and felt the observation that she's low to the ground, so I dug out a 18inch high 16inch wide x 4ft table thing i'd made along the way, set it on it and honestly... split every piece i put on it for 3-4 hours so far... not a misstep to be had. The wood was all hardwood, seasoned 6 months, and generally quartered pieces of 16 to 18 inch diameter trees. I'd guess at roughly that's 1/2 cord split to satisfaction. And no back pain, shoulder pain, old man pain.... Hopefully she lasts for years to come, because talk about being spoiled... wow... love it so far. If there was anything I"d complain about, it'd be the controls.... it requires two handed operation, but if you're not in a rush, which I'm not, that works out fine... She's not light, but that also is fine by me, some might have trouble dragging her around. You need a solid power source, and good power cord, and don't forget to open the hydraulic bleeder valve when in use.... I had no issues, but i could see how you could have them if you didn't follow the instructions on that. ... show more

Definitely worth the money!! I do not work for amazon or this company!! Splits 8-9 inches logs no problem and makes Kinlin easier! Only bad thing its very low to the ground definitely need a heavy duty table or something to bring it up. 4 3/4 stars!!

Was easy to use right out of the box arrived in good shape no damages. The splitter is powerful easily split aged and dry cherry, oak, poplar, and Bradford logs. Was light and compact enough to put on a table to save my back from bending over a lot...and for smaller logs I use a scrap piece of 4x4 of reduce the amount of piston time to push a shorter log...because the only negative I would report is the machine is annoyingly loud. I would recommend this product. I bought the assurance policy as I plan on using this a lot just in case it doesn't hold up as I hope. ... show more

i am so impressed with this log splitter! i am a 62 year old woman. unfortunately we had some really bad storms possible tornado a couple of months ago. i noticed that one of my mom's trees had split and because it was close to the electrical lines i called DTE and they came out to top this huge tree. omg what a terrible terrible mess they made. some areas of limbs and branches on the ground were at least 10-12ft tall others were 8ft tall . i was aware they do not chip tree branches anymore so ...my nephew helped me the first 5 days but i was like nope i am done lolol. i ordered this and while waiting for delivery a bunch us cut down what we could. when this splitter arrived i tested it out and i was very impressed with it. i used it for a couple of hours (until the rain started ). it works awesome at just the right spead not to fast not to slow. you have to use both hands so thats a plus no way to injure yourself. theres no adjustment need for the splitter itself. you might need to make an adjustment to the log if you do just take your hands off the buttons/ lever and the splitter automatically returns to the start position. i did not buy the stand for this splitter its easier for me to lift from the ground to the splitter . i highly recommend this product! ... show more

    • It broke the first time I used it.
I received the splitter in November but did not unpack until I needed it March 1 so past the 30-day return window. The two tension rods connected to the pusher bent slightly allowing the bottom to lower and run into the electric motor cover and breaking a fan blade. I had only split about a dozen 10 to 12" long by 5 to 10 " aged oak logs that split quickly without apparent stress on the machine. ... show more

Some of the reviews of similar products were not all that favorable and some described them as junk. I paid more for this brand and bought a contract just in case but so far it's been a real work horse. Pay attention to the grain of the wood and avoid trying to spilt knots and you should be fine. It takes two hands to work the splitter and so the temptation is to use your knee to steady the log. Don't do that for the log under stress can buck and jump quite violently. Common sense goes a long way on this one. I do wish the side rails were a little beefer and that the wheels were a bit larger but the it's already damn heavy and larger then I thought it would be. Maybe next season I will do my own modes to make it a bit more robust and user friendly ... show more

As advertised, this unit makes short work of breaking wood down to easy manageable fire wood or kindling size pieces. This unit is a champion & easily powers thru the largest logs. This is much better than an ax and can make three times the pile of wood that an ax can in less time and effort. I would definitely recommend.
