  • It isn't possible to do better without spending at least $2,000 more! Very nice!
Was very skeptical after having come from a $795 Receiver/Amp, $200 (ea/ qty 2) front speakers, $150 center front sk, $500 Woofer, and $125 rear speakers (ea/ qty 2) *component system* I hand-picked that I had had for years. Very skeptical indeed...! However, the Sony brand name along with the incredible price tag of < $300 (yes, that is not a misprint!) inspired me enough to give it a whirl! This system is perfect for a small to medium-sized TV/entertainment den/family room--say, nothing larger than 15ft X 25ft, or maybe 5' bigger both ways. All speakers are wired and all wiring is included--which is a big plus for sound fidelity, imo--and the rear speaker wire connections have about 30' of play IIRC--which was more than ample for my needs. If your room is larger than, say, 20'x30', max, then you'll need to buy extra speaker wire for the rear speakers--but that is very inexpensive and easily integrated, and of course only important if you need to put the rear speakers immediately along the rear wall in the room, etc. Someone else here wrote that the speakers "sounded like a toy,"...;)...and I can only think he had hooked them up wrong, or set them up wrong in the unit's many and varied internal on-screen settings, because these speakers sound dramatically rich, deep, and full--if you set them up correctly. The woofer alone can create *clear* lows that will rattle the building, etc. Low frequency response is clear and pleasantly modulated--not over-killed and distorted like is true in some sound systems today (rap-killed, in other words...;)). These are cinematic speakers designed for precise theatrical sound reproduction and it shows! But that's true for any sound system--you can ruin the sound by not knowing what you are doing in setting it up. But Sony did a great job in tuning the particulars so that you don't have to. No toys here! I'm very pleasantly pleased and was never even slightly tempted to return the unit--it has exceeded every expectation I had for an integrated all-in-one Blu-Ray surround-sound 5.1 system with a total RMS of 1000W. Sound integration really has to be heard to be appreciated, and with 5.1 Blu-Ray, even 5.1 Netflix streaming or Amazon streaming, the separation is *very* nice--and very noticeably well-configured. Bose taught the world that speakers don't have to be the size of elephants in order to produce nice or volume sound, and Sony certainly carries on that school of thought in these speakers. Wiring is all color coded for even the non-technical among us--this is a quality, well-thought-out integrated Blue-Ray home entertainment system, imo. Highly recommended! ... show more

  • Simplicity is named Bravia Sync
Replaced a very nice Yamaha surround system, because I could never get the remotes working well enough for my wife. We have a Sony KDL65W850A, and I had a Samsung Blu-ray player, with a Yamaha receiver. I could manage getting everything powered up and running, and I had even gotten a Logitech Harmony 650 all configured. But, naturally, when my wife would try to use it, she wouldn't wait quite long enough for everything to get the IR signal to power up, or down, or whatever, and something would get out of sync. So, I was forever getting called in to "fix it". When I discovered the "Bravia Sync" feature our TV had, I began researching other options. I found this, and really love it. It's not as beefy as my old Yamaha, but it does the job fine for our TV room (the sub is plenty loud). Also, the wires are just barely long enough (even the front ones, not sure what Sony is considering a "normal" wiring arrangement?). They seem thin, but I guess the speakers aren't drawing that much. As for sound quality, I don't notice any difference from my old surround system (naturally, completely different than the TV speakers). The Blu-Ray player itself seems fine. I only have a few, but "Planet Earth" looks as beautiful as ever (especially on this TV, spectacular colors and contrast). As for the main reason I bought it: YES, it has passed the wife test! Everything turns on and off together. It even works fine with the simple TV remote (the Sony TV comes with a "simple" bluetooth remote, and a "regular" IR remote - sort of a hers/his thing, I guess ;). I only use the blu-ray remote if I want to listen to my phone thru bluetooth, without turning on the TV, otherwise the TV remotes can control everything (even all the menus). Now, if I could just get a simple, reliable, Google TV client for our HDHomeRun Prime so she can watch Bravo Housewives.... ... show more
