  • Cleared up my issues with volume
I recently purchased this item when I read about its ability to improve the audio on my Roku TV. My remote was at top volume for some of the streaming channels and I still had trouble clearly hearing dialog. When I had cable service, my volume was between 20 - 25. Netflix was in the 90's and Amazon Prime was in the 70's. I am not tech savvy at all and am pretty clueless about all the technology available out there. I am 73 and just want to watch TV that doesn't buffer every 5 minutes or make me feel like I am going deaf and need a hearing aid. So I took a chance on this gizmo and I am so happy I did. Installation was a breeze. Of course my son and his wife handled that which took about 15 minutes to get all the channels signed back in. I couldn't believe my good fortune that this gizmo did exactly what I expected it to do. My volume is again between 20 - 25 and the audio is very clear. Yay! It is 4K so the video also improved to the point that I can see every bead of sweat and every freckle and blemish on the actor. Keeping it real! One problem...I couldn't turn the TV off. Gee, got to bother the kids again. No remote worked. Went the forums, etc. After 3 days, my son called with the solution. Use the microphone to turn off the TV. Amazing! I need to learn to use this feature more. I am back in the land of Happy again. So I highly recommend this neat invention if you experienced issues with our modern TV's like I did. ... show more

  • Great product, but not super loud
Update: Watched the Jungle Cruise over the weekend and it was plenty loud. The only parts that could have been louder were when the loudest audio was supposed to be sub-level bass. If you add the sub to this product, you will have an awesome setup. Original Review: I ordered this specifically for my outdoor theater and I have to say I'm pretty impressed. The Roku software is great. I haven't found it laggy at all, so I'm not sure what some people are complaining about. The sound quality is also very good for the size of this thing. It obviously doesn't compare to anything high end, but it's better than you would expect a cheap soundbar to sound. My only complaint is the max volume leaves a little bit to be desired. For indoors, this thing is plenty loud. No complaints at all. For outdoors, it gets loud enough, but it can't quite get to explosive volume for a movie. Maybe the sub would be the difference maker? Even then, I think it would be more full, but still only get up to like 9. In the words of Spinal Tap, thing doesn't go to 11. I spent a good 15 minutes wondering if I should return it and get the Streambar Pro for a little extra volume, but I have a very big backyard. If you're in the suburbs with houses close together, this is loud enough for your neighbors to notice (and it allows you to use headphones too). I ended up keeping it because the quality is great for what it is, and it is just insanely convenient for an outdoor theater setup. My projector doesn't have outputs for audio, so this is a perfect problem solver for my situation. I can just plug in the speaker and run HDMI out to the projector and I'm done. I can fit my projector and this speaker in a small bin for storage when not in use, which is also amazingly convenient. When it's movie night, I just walk out the bin and I'm set up in less than 5 minutes. If you are looking for an easy outdoor theater setup, this thing isn't the loudest thing on the market, but the size/convenience/sound combination is really tough to beat. ... show more

  • We love it!
We love the sound quality and the size of the Roku Streambar! I noticed that some reviews said it sounds tinny, but we did not have that experience at all. Maybe it has to do with the type/size of TV that they were connecting it to, I don't know, but it sounds great to us on our 43" not-so-smart Samsung! Our old soundbar system and subwoofer box (which took up floor space) was about 5 years old, and while the sound was great, we had to turn the volume up high enough to try to understand voices speaking in almost any scene. None of our settings made it clear enough, but then when loud action scenes in a movie would happen it was too loud, and the base would practically shake the walls, no matter how much we adjusted the settings we could never get a perfect happy medium of the base and treble. Right out of the box the Roku Streambar sounded great! You can adjust settings, but we haven't needed to so far. We hear voices with loud crisp clarity, and then when the sound of the battleships in a classic Star Wars movie come flying into scene there is a nice base filled rumble that is the perfect loudness and very effective, but didn't rattle our walls and we can still clearly hear voices in the scene. I also love not having to have a subwoofer sitting on the floor. I know Roku makes one to go with this device but I don't see any need for it for us. We also love that there is no more trying to hold the old remote up in the air and point it down over the top of our old sound bar to connect with the infrared eye, which was badly placed on top of the bar. We would even have to get up out of our seat to stand up and move closer to it to get it to connect. With the Roku Streambar we can press the buttons from any angle in our seat and it connects. No aiming anywhere specific or having to get out of our seat anymore. Prior to this purchase we had an older model Roku stick connected to our TV, which would slowly bring up the apps when we would try to access them. This Roku Streambar responds fast and brings up our apps with no waiting. We have ours setup using the wireless connection, although there is a wired option if you need it. I cannot believe the speed that it loads everything compared to our old stick. The picture quality is great, again right out of the box without changing any settings yet. Time will tell how it performs over time, and I might update later, but for now we're keeping it and we love it! ... show more

  • Wonderful But for One Issue
I use a 65" Roku TCL TV as my main TV. I use it more than any other in my apartment. I also have 2 other TCL Roku TVs. A 32" on my computer desk and a 55" in my bedroom. The bedroom one I rarely use, the PC desk one I use often but have a random sound bar I got years ago at KMart. Point being- the audio on ALL 3 TVs is pretty terrible, and it's a pain to even try to use them with the built-in, tinny, painfully bad-sounding speakers. I started using the Amazon Fire TV Cube hooked up to 2 Echo Studio speakers as my main living room setup on the Roku TCL. However- I had had this Roku soundbar for a couple of weeks and use it more than I do the Amazon Fire TV Cube/Echo studio setup. Honestly, the audio quality at the levels I watch stuff at (have neighbors, so I can't go all out) is nearly as good as the Echo Studios. Even better in some ways because the sound from the Studios are wifi-based and will often cut out...I have to reset them sometimes or close everything, reopen the app I am using, perhaps even restart the entire Fire Cube itself. Roku's soundbar is HDMI (using ARC channel to use it for sound for my XBox series X and my bluray player.) It's pretty wonderful so far. Surprising how great the audio is, and it gets fairly loud as well. The remote, as with all Rokus, is nicely set up, the button configuration is completely intuitive, so you never have to really look down at the remote to do anything you would need to do. I will often hit the top button when I am meaning to use the voice search (as the Amazon Cube's voice search is at the top, and I am so used to it). The Roku menu is nice, the layout of the apps/channels makes sense- it is a bit wonky, and I definitely like the Amazon layout on the Fire TV devices better, as there are columns and rows, whereas Roku is just a neverending series of tiles for each app. I've had zero issues so far. I also like that my TV recognizes the Roku soundbar, so all I need to do is hit any button on the soundbar remote and it will switch to that input. Tell my Alexa cube "Alexa, Home" and it will go back to my Fire Cube. I love the way it's set up now and the Roku soundbar is just another option I have. Even with HDR movies- the picture is pretty great, the sound works well...Like I said, it honestly rivals what I discern in terms of audio quality and channel separation from the Echo Studio pair which I have for a right and left channel...not nearly as good, but it seems to do a really nice job of separating the channels even for movies with audio coming from different directions. Very impressive, because this soundbar is deceptively small. A little over 2 feet wide, but for the audio quality, it seems much bigger. They have done nice work in arranging the speakers pointing in different directions to get great audio into my living room which is on the medium size. Super easy to hook up, really sleek looking in general, has a flat top, so you could sit something small on top of it if you wanted- I have mine on the TV stand, and it is low profile enough not to block any of the TV viewing area. It's black, so it fits in nicely with my other devices (mostly Amazon devices) as they are all black as well...fades into the background, so it never sticks out when you're watching a movie. The ONE con I have with all Roku devices, and I see no way to change this- the audio setting goes from 1 to 100. WAY too far of a range. I like that there is a wide range overall, but 100 distinct levels is crazy...when something gets way too loud suddenly, and I want to lower the audio so my neighbors don't hate me- it's a chore to pick up the remote and have to travel the volume from 80 to 30. The range needs to be much smaller or give us an option to decide what the range is. I do like there are several options for audio- you can set it to dialogue is evened out to match the music parts better, you can set it to quiet listening- I also love that I can bluetooth my Bose QC 45's to the soundbar with ease (and have it saved as an option in my Bose app), so when I want to listen to a movie really loud and not get the police called on me by neighbors! If they would fix the audio range or let you edit how big the range is, that would be great and make this a 5 star product. That is why I knocked off a star, though I would really say it's a half star knocked off (that's not an option on Amazon.) Really glad I added this to my arsenal. I will still use my Fire Cube and Echo Studios set up, but this one now rivals it when I want a change. Highly recommend, especially for only $100 (as of Aug 2023). ... show more

  • Great for its size and price
I am extremely happy with my Roku Streambar. One disclaimer: I have it in my study room and not the main living room. However, I think it can work in your living room in a pinch, if it isn't too big. Admittedly the sound cannot be compared with more expensive sound bars that you can get. However, considering its small footprint and the price that includes a strong and good video quality Roku player and a sound bar, I can't complain. The picture quality is great. There is no video lag and sound quality is a huge stepup from my TV. I am a big fan of easy to operate Roku OS. When my parents come to our house, they have no problem operating our Roku, while operating our Fire Cube TV is confusing to them. WiFi connectivity is pretty good too. I like app availability on Roku app market. The 2 minor problems that I've encountered. 1. I'd love to see a headphone jack on the remote itself, so anyone can insert a regular headphone and listen in silence. Given you can install the Roku app and listen via your phone. 2. In some apps and some programs I've noticed a very slight delay in sound. (yes. I'm using HDMI on an Arc port.) All and all, I'm very happy with this product. ... show more

  • A good, moderate, sound upgrade
This is a good option if you want to upgrade the sound on your tv without spending a fortune or wiring a room for surround sound. It is pretty much a plug-in-play device that takes minimal setup once you connect it. You can plug it into a regular HDMI port or an HDMI ARC port (assuming your TV has one) to allow sound from other devices like a Blu-Ray player plugged into the TV to be played through the soundbar as well. Pretty much, if you have ever set up another Roku device or an Amazon Firestick, you can set this up. The sound is good, but not overwhelming. You can get the Roku wireless speakers and/or subwoofer that can connect to this wirelessly and get a better surround sound experience. The only real issue I have had is that when I switch to the Blu-Ray input, the soundbar will turn on the player, and then the inputs will jump between the one the Blu-Ray player is plugged into and the one the soundbar is plugged into, and keep jumping between the disc player and the Roku screen. Turning the TV off and back on stops it, but it is irritating. It is definitely an upgrade over the sound that comes out of the TV speakers, but it is not as good as an expensive home-theater setup with a 7.1 Dolby Atmos setup, but it is also a fraction of the cost even if you shell out for the wireless speakers and subwoofer. ... show more

  • Great solution for streaming and sound!
This is a great invention and just what I was looking for a secondary TV setup! My previous setup: 32 inch TV housed in an armoire, ancient Sony stereo receiver and 2 small, very unimpressive Pyle bookshelf speakers. Too much equipment and wiring that provided poor sound quality. Then I saw the Roku Streambar on Amazon and decided to give it a try. What a great decision! Literally 2 wires (my TV is older so no ARC): HDMI for picture, optical cable for sound. Setup was a snap! Within about 10 or 15 minutes, I had it ready to go and loaded with all of my subscriptions (Netflix, Prime, etc). As other reviewers point out, this is not going to compare with true surround sound or even a high quality soundbar. However, the sound projects well and is crisp and clear. I also found the bass to be perfectly acceptable for a speaker of such small size (about 14 inches wide). So glad that I decided to give it a try and upgrade my setup. I'm extremely satisfied with the Roku streambar!! UPDATE 1/20/22: Just added two Roku wireless speakers and WOW! Such clear and crisp sound! And bass is really quite good (not going to rock the house though). A couple of general suggestions: make sure to put the Streambar into Bass Boost mode. I've found 20-25 percent is the sweet spot for a relatively small room (13 × 20). The higher the volume, the bass sound will start to degrade. Also, I read that alot of people attempting connect using an optical cable complain that the ends don't fit into the optical input openings. Make sure you carefully remove the tiny clear protective caps on each end of the cable. Then insert into the opening until it clicks. It will fit perfectly and securely. ... show more

  • Amazing sound clarity, superior video quality and user controls.
I have a family member that has hearing problem. He can hear certain frequency but refused to use hearing aids. When he's around, the TV volume slowly creeping up to unbearable hearing volume for me and my poor cats. I've tried Bose external speaker but the sound was too bright and irritable, while unnatural. I almost gave up! Then Prime Day came and the price for this Roku StreamBar is attractive enough purchase to try. I always liked Roku products, so I thought what do I have to lose to get it and find out. It was amazing and pleasant surprise to my finding: The sound is so clear, background/static noise that I could hear in normal TV volume completely gone. I can understand conversation, report with ease even in lower volume settings. I rarely go pass volume level 15 on the 0-100 scale. So it was perfectly fine for my family member with hearing problem. I'm not lightly giving good recommendation and tout for a product, but this Roku Streambar got 10 stars if that is allowed. It beats Bose system and other expensive one for my application. The music is also clear and has nice base. I can't imagine if I add the additional subwoofer that Roku has to offer to my existing system. Everyone is happy after it's installed. The rest of the family has our peace back. I hope this system will last years just like other Roku products I've owned. It's not big or bulky at all, and when I swing the TV around to other angle, I don't even have to move the speaker to that direction, and it's all sound very normal (I have my TV in between my kitchen and dining area). The only thing I am concerned about is the unit is a bit warm when in Off mode. A bit warmer in On mode. I need to measure the wattage consumption of each state to know for sure. I wish it has a power saving mode during idle, that will extend the life of the product longer and save us money on power. ... show more
