Just ordered 6 more. Then I'll have 1-2 extra so when my terriers puncture it, I'll have a backup. I'll write back with info on "heating" capability once I have more of the pool covered (75%-80%). Reason for Purchase: We purchased to keep evaporation down and to keep heat in at night. In Napa, it dips down into 50s/60s all summer. Also, the very small possibility they will help extend our swim season. We just installed a new energy efficient gas pump heater to save on our crazy gas bills and water usage. PROs: (Partial list until further observations) 1. Magnets hold them together and make it easier to retrieve 2. Has handles for easy hanging (small) 3. CONs: 1. Price points are high for essentially a piece of floating plastic. $30-32/each ($300 for our pool) 2. Instructions have pictures but there should be more clarity on "over-filling". Examples: Fill "halfway" and see if they will float. Or... They WILL appear grossly under inflated...so test before continuing to fill. 3. Not a CON as much as a caution: Unfold all of them and lay flat as the instructions say (I stacked mine). 4. Take the time to work out the crimped edges, especially the magnet pockets and the folded handles. WAIT for them to soften (sun helped). NOTE: This step will allow the air to distribute more evenly and easily .... You Will NOT regret this step because it takes SO little air that you'll NEED the air to be able to move very easily while inflating. 4. It is NOT reasonable to instruct people to manually blow to inflated. I could NOT do this...got dizzy too fast and I have 12 to fill!!! Logical Solution: a. Follow what I said in #3; b. BE CAREFUL AND METHODICAL and use a pump. IMPORTANT: First Determine the number of seconds needed and use that number for all the rings. NOTE: I counted to 10 (one one thousand, two one thousand, etc.); c. Depending on your pump, you might need to count only to 5 or so. d. Determine your count by looking at the ring and if it looks like it is ONLY a quarter full, STOP!! e. They will look pitifully under inflated. f. PROOF: I filled one for 12 seconds and it looked under inflated; HOWEVER, it curled!!!! I pushed some air out and it is still curled a little. See my pictures. That's it folks... no sinkers, leakers or fly aways .. all good. More later.... ... show more

One star for the design idea, everything else, not so good. I ordered half a dozen of these rings to try them out for my pool. After playing around with the inflation level (or under inflation) for a bit, I thought I had it nailed. Right out of the box, however, I noted that there are big time wrinkles in the plastic material. These wrinkles did not go away over a few days, and may have resulted from the really tight shipping. Also I noted some of the inflation valves were heavily squished, also probably due to packing, which made it hard to plug them up well (leading to suspected air loss). I chalked it up to cold weather at the time and gave the rings some time to settle out, and made sure to check them weekly for good inflation. Only one of the rings out of six really stayed inflated over time. One particular ring seemed to deflate quicker even than the others. So I blew it up, held it under the water a bit, and sure enough, saw bubbles coming out from air escaping. Only the bubbles escaping came from inside of the ring (where you would expect less wear and tear, especially over a couple of weeks). The experience with this one leaking ring made me suspect the other ones, but I was so disappointed , I didn’t bother to check the others at that point. I can’t afford to pay good money for six rings and get one good working one. Way too pricey at that rate. Please save your money and your time. Most unfortunate. ... show more

We have a medium-sized (but fairly deep) pool in SoCal. Due to our pool fence, we can't easily install a pool cover w/reel... and our town recently mandated an anti-evaporation measure such as these (with a small energy rebate for buying them). I bought 12 of these rings, and use 11 in the pool to achieve the recommended ~85% coverage (one that we had deployed deflated mysteriously after a few months, so I swapped in the spare). I've always found our pool uncomfortably cold, even at the height of summer (though the kids don't seem to mind). With these rings in use, it's like night and day... they ABSOLUTELY raise the temperature, no question. At the peak of summer heat, it felt like swimming in Hawaii; I couldn't believe the difference. Now that it's cooling off at night, the pool's a little cooler... but they're still making a difference. In terms of evaporation – I still need to add water to the pool, but maybe only every 2 weeks, as opposed to every week without the rings (again, this is at the height of summer). They seem to slowly lose air, so every so often I'll reinflate some of the rings (via a few puffs of air) when removing them for the pool cleaner. I don't find them too burdensome to remove (I've got it down to a science). The rings have built-in "hooks" for hanging over pool fence rails, if you have one. ... show more

    • 3 out of 18 units I bought have unrepairable leaks at the seams. No product support.

These work well, enough to slow down the pool cooling down at night during the winter and whenever there is sunlight, will boost the temperature by about 10 degrees. However, 6 of the 18 I purchased came with small pinhole leaks, 3 which were easily fixed but 3 that occurred at the seams and will not seal using a variety of sealants. Product support is virtually non-existent, with a link to a support website that doesn't exist. ... show more

These solar rings are awesome, we have a 18x36 oval with a 6 ft deep end , we use 6-8 ring’s depending on the weather, as it gets hotter we take out 2-3 and just use 3-4 rings the kids can still swim and it’s great , the solar blanket is huge heavy and collects all sorts of dust & leaves , these are so easy to clean it’s a one person job, I also use them in the winter under the cover as floats they are great ... show more

    • Not worth the money.

We bought these because we fill like our pool water stays a little too chilly for us most of the time. We aren’t sure if they work as far as helping warm the water at all, however 2 of the 6 from our pack seem to not even want to stay blown up. And they’re honestly a big pain in the ass because they are in the way when you want to get in and float or swim. I would not suggest them and in fact would love to return them because they’re too expensive and don’t seem to work. ... show more
