    • Excellent Product, A Bit Pricey, App Could Use Some Work
This is an excellent product, and we are very happy with our purchase overall. There are a few areas where improvements could be made: 1. The full price is much to high. (I purchased it on sale for $99, and I never would have bought it at the higher price point. I also think they should offer a multi-unit discount for households with more than one litter box because it's even more challenging to monitor the health and activity of individual cats when you have more than one.) 2. The app doesn't allow you to create your own unique login. You are forced to use your Apple ID or Google login, which means it isn't easy to share access among family members or cat sitters. I have been able to login using my husband's Apple ID. However, we'd like to be able to give our cat sitter access, but there is no way we are going to start sharing our Apple ID login credentials outside of our household. Every month or so, the app forces you to login again which requires the account holder to provide you with a code to get back in. (I appreciate security, but this is very annoying when they could just give the account holder the ability to remove access from certain devices as necessary.) 3. I wish there was a way to easily share a report with our vet via email directly from the app, or even grant our vet access to monitor the activity (just like we'd like to do with our cat sitter). You can create a report and then manually email the PDF, but that's a lot of extra unnecessary steps that aren't easy to do from a phone. Having said all that, once you get used to navigating the app, it really is a great tool for monitoring your cat's weight and litter activity. It's great that you can tell by checking the app if the box needs to be scooped, or if your cat has made multiple failed attempts to use it, which could indicate a behavioral, environmental, or health concern. I love getting the notifications on my phone when my cat has used the litter box, so it saves me a trip down to the basement to check if it needs to be scooped. It seems to take about a week for the scale to "learn" how to read your cat's activity correctly because we had to manually adjust a few times from "entered but did not use the litter box" to indicate that she had actually done #1 or #2. After this learning period, we found it to be very reliable and accurate, even when performing a full litter box change it didn't need any time to re-calibrate. It just went right back to "business" as usual. We only have one cat, but based on how accurately it can differentiate between #1 and #2, I believe it could also differentiate between two different cats, assuming their weight is a few ounces apart from one another. You can also change your cat's name/avatar in the app if you have more than one cat. Unfortunately, the cost is probably prohibitive for households with more than one litter box. ... show more

I bought this soon after adopting an older cat that the vet warned would need to lose weight now or was at risk of developing diabetes. I wanted to be able to verify regularly that she was losing weight at a safe rate (faster than 4% a month could be damaging to the kidneys). I also didn't want to have to go through the trouble of regularly wrangling her to sit on a more traditional scale and didn't want to buy something that I would have to set up and store with every use. The petivity scale has been the perfect solution to all this - a real set it and forget it system. I've been using it for about 9 months now and the app consistently works, and sends notifications of percentage weight loss. You can also set it to notify you of any litterbox usage by the cat which could be useful for knowing when to clean or if you have concern that your cat isn't going as often as they should. Even without these notifications on, the petivity app was really helpful for remotely diagnosing a constipation issue that my cat developed when I was away for Christmas and had left her with a cat sitter, and with that information, the cat sitter was able to adjust her diet appropriately. I bought this device originally at $199.99 but then returned it and rebought for $99.99 when it was put on sale within a month of my purchase (advices to do so my Amazon customer support since Amazon doesn't do price adjustments). While I wish it was cheaper, during my own searching, it really seemed like the only available smart tracking scale for litterboxes that wasn't also integrated into a litterbox itself and many such integrated litterboxes are also pricier automatically cleaning ones that I didn't want anyway (heard that cats can be injured if the sensor for triggering the automatic cleaning mechanism becomes faulty and initiates cleaning with the cat inside). So with that all said, I do think the device really delivers on what it promises to do and would recommend it to anyone hoping to verify that their cat is safely losing weight. ... show more

    • Update: Product now connects. Previously had significant issues.
There appears to have been a bug or something with the service when I was trying to deploy them onto my network that prevented them from getting the latest firmware. The manufacturer contacted me and asked me try again. This time the devices functioned. I have had them working without issue for a day. So I have set my stars from 1 to 4. The bring up process was a bit more challenging than what I have come to expect, but I am happy with the measurements the product is making. I will update the recommendation if I find issues or if I find no issues. :) Thanks to the manufacturer for caring to help resolve the issue. Previously I wrote: I have two of these devices. I have attempted to get them incorporated into my network but they simply do not function. They have produced no data even though indicating they are functioning. They provide a green like and pretend they work but they do not work. Following all the instructions yielded complete failure. What a waste of time. Awful awful awful awful. ... show more
