  • I like them
I bought these strictly because they looked like a cool gadget. They are. It takes a little fiddling with but I'm a happy little technogadget fan.

  • Better than expected for the price, but REMEMBER THE POWER.
I'm working on a project which will have a heads-up display, so I needed something where I could do basic development before dropping the big bucks on a "proper" head-mounted display. Something simple with minimal bells and whistles where I could just send a video signal and have it appear inside a pair of goggles. I found this thing, did a little bit of research, found it fit what I was looking for, and I ordered one. Now there is NO WAY this thing will be able to work as the HUD in the final version of my project; I knew that going in. I bought it purely for experimentation and development. The resolution isn't great, the field of view is pretty small, and the latency makes it completely unsuitable for real-time vision, That said, AS LONG AS YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU'RE BUYING, this thing is actually quite good for what it costs. WHAT IT IS: It's a pair of enclosed goggles which acts as a simple external display. That's it. If that's what you're looking for, at a $100 price point this thing is surprisingly good. WHAT IT'S NOT: It's not VR goggles. It's not AR goggles. It's not a fancy head-tracking display system of any kind. If you're looking for that sort of thing, look elsewhere. I could easily see this as being pretty cool for privately watching a movie on an airplane or similar, as long as you've also got yourself a decent pair of headphones. Pros: - As a very simple but wearable display, it's good. With compatible hardware you simply plug it in and you're off and running. - Lightweight. Since there's barely anything to it, it's very light. Which means it's pretty comfortable to wear for longer periods of time. Cons: - Power. The simplicity of having a one-plug USB-C solution is convenient when you're connected to a device that can send power and video over that same connection, but problems arise when you simply want to send video-out (over HDMI for example) to these goggles. There's no alternate plug for power input, so that's a pretty big limitation. I have an HDMI power injector arriving today so I'm hoping that along with some USB/HDMI adapters I can solve that problem, but it's pretty clunky and I wouldn't say I'm optimistic. - The resolution isn't anything to write home about. For movies and videos it's decent, but once you're looking at smaller text (like a terminal window or icon labels), it's still definitely readable but the low resolution is much more apparent. - The display "depth" is very noticeable. It's like you're in a large black room with one wall acting as a TV, but you appeaar to be probably 12 feet from the display rather than say 6 feet. Still plenty usable though. Other than the power issue I had a really hard time calling the cons "cons" for this device because yeah, I knew these would be issues before I ever bought the thing and they're expected for something that costs a hundred bucks. Having unique use cases I fully understood the limitations, but they're still good to mention. I will say though that if you just want something wearable to watch videos and such, this is a pretty decent deal. That power thing though... that's not great. ... show more

  • This is basically a toy, read description carefully.
So I got this to do some retro gaming in bed without disturbing my partner. And... It's what i wanted, a monitor I can strap to my face. So for me it's cool. And that works, so if your looking for the reasons to not get this, here's the list... 720p No hdmi black bars not 3d No battery Imagine being in the back row of the theater. That's about what it's like. Biggest con for me personally. There is some light bleed from the backlight, making the thin outer plastic glow, so I had to mask it up with tape. It's reasonably clear but I have to wear glasses, so it's a LITTLE uncomfortable. ... show more

  • Recommended for Movies on Planes for sure!
I gave this a test drive on a few devices. My thoughts: Overall, it's very responsive and the resolution is good. These work only without glasses, however, the lenses can be adjusted to accommodate what seems to be most visions. The lenses are a bit challenging to turn and calibrate, but it can be done with relative ease. One thing I don't like is that if you're like me, you move around a lot if you work, and it's hard to concentrate on the image if you're moving your head. I wouldn't recommend these for exercise, but try it out anyway. The strap is adjustable and should fit most heads securely. Other thoughts about key uses: 1. This works wonderfully with a mobile phone, but I highly recommend trying to use it with a little USB-C hub. The reason for this is that without access to your phone, you won't know where to click easily unless you have perfect muscle memory. A USB hub can give you a mouse and keyboard, so you can do mobile work privately on the go. Not ideal, but if privacy is important, I suggest this. Additionally, a hub will allow you to charge your phone and keep the glasses powered on. 2. This works with a PC that has video-out capabilities via USB-C. This can be used as a duplicate monitor (ideal) or as an additional monitor (extend desktop). I personally had trouble focusing on work using it (Excel), however, certain work can likely be enhanced by these (visual work, work that requires privacy). 3. This is probably ideal for watching movies and playing console-type games with a physical controller you don't need to look at. I found just laying around watching some TV shows to work rather well. ... show more
