  • The best vacuum I've ever owned
I've always just purchased a cheap Walmart/Target type vacuum cleaner - Hoover, Bissell, Dirt Devil - all low end models or the "pet" model until this one... I read reviews and wanted either a Dyson or Shark this time for a new home with all brand new carpet. I have a small Shih Tzu dog and have owned multiple dogs at times during my life. This Vacuum sucks up more dirt and pet hair than anything I have ever seen or used before. I've been using it for over half a year now and I'm still AMAZED every time I use it. Not only does it have great suction and cleaning power, it is easy to use, versatile and has a cord that reaches halfway through the house. It easily comes apart to use just the handle for tight space cleaning, the canister comes off for portable cleaning without the floor attachment, it has a carpet and hardwood floor setting/switch... All great features, all easy to use and the I feel like my floors are cleaner than ever thanks to this vacuum. Oh, it also has an upholstery tool that actually is belt driven for cleaning furniture, the car seats etc. Unlike the cheap models that operate only on suction power to clean. This thing is amazing. Great vacuum, you cannot go wrong with this one. If I ever need another vacuum, it will be a Shark. ... show more

  • Reliable & versatile
I'm so glad they had this model of the Shark vacuum. It's been renewed. I can't tell the difference from new or used since it has incredible suction and all parts look new. The price was great too. This vacuum can be used with deep shag carpet (reduce the suction), medium & low carpet or bare floors (wood, tile, etc). The ease of using the wand and brush for hard to get to area is great. I love this refurbished Shark professional vacuum. It's old school and looks like it will last a long time. ... show more

  • Shark UV540 Lift-Away
This vacuum (Shark UV540 Lift-Away Upright Vacuum Certified Refurbished) works perfectly. Was fairly clean with only minimal signs of prior use. Attachments appear new and everything was packaged very well. This is a positive reflection on the seller/refurbisher more so than the vac itself. I have never used a Shark before and am amazed at the suction this UV540 Lift-Away has. I wanted to try a more inexpensive model before I decided to go with a larger one so I purchase this refurbished model. I don't care what brand something is as long as it does what I need it to and has all of the features that I need however I also will not pay a premium just to say I have *** brand. This one does not disappoint and I am sold. I have not seen suction power such as this in any other brand (even though I had thought I had found some powerful vacs in the past). The UV540 does have a very small dust cup which for some reason seems to be a common trait in all brands and most models. I think this small dust cup is the only real negative that I have found so far with this model. I have two large dogs and one of them sheds constantly so this smaller dust cup must be emptied often. Given how well this vac works I can live with that until I can purchase a model with a larger cup. I also would have liked the ability to utilize an actual extension hose for hand tools rather than the hard pipe this has (I have a whole collection from various vacs over the years). The extension hose I have is a common size but does not adapt to this pipe very well but I will work it out. Even though dust cup is small the process of emptying it is more straight forward, and it is also fairly simple to clean the filter which I found is not so with many other brands that I have used (wife had to ask how to empty it as it sort of confused her due to being much more simplified and she really did not expect that). It would ordinarily be just large enough for an average/large size room (if you don't have a dog that sheds as heavily as mine) to be able to complete one room or so before having to empty it. I do like the fact you don't have to take the whole vac outside to clean the car possibly risking tipping it over and damaging it. If you don't mind emptying the dust cup a little more often or absolutely need a larger one then I would highly recommend this model. For suction power I don't think you can beat a Shark corded vac (at least I have not found one yet). I will be looking to the larger dust cup model next. ***Edit/update- Been using this vac for over a year and a half. Still works very well. Twice I have had to repair the plastic protrusions that the clips clip onto that hold the dust bin on. I used structural plastic epoxy that seems to be holding well. If it did not then I would have had to purchase a replacement bin or another vac as it would not stay together without tape. Other than that the only other issue would be the odd size tube that requires some creative construction to adapt an extension hose. I have noticed that after some length of time the hepa filter will plug up causing the vac to loose suction. Looking at it it did not appear dirty at all but that was definitely the problem and a new aftermarket one solved. I will definitely be purchasing another when this vac does finally give out (although maybe the model with the larger bin). ****Update 7-3-2024- vac still going strong. I did end up purchasing a replacement dust bin after my epoxy repairs on the dust bin tabs eventually gave out after the cracking (possibly from tipping over) extended further. Also, I did recently discover an aftermarket adapter that clips perfectly into the handle/hose end that allows connecting standard 1-1/4" attachments that now increases the usability of the vacuum tremendously. I would still recommend the shark vac and if this one does give up will be purchasing another. ***Edit/update 1-26-2026- I have been using this refurbished Shark for over 6 1/2yrs now and can say it is still the best vac I have ever used (aside from my large shop vac that is). I did have to purchase a replacement dust bin after the old one cracked at the fastener a couple years ago as stated above but I would rather spend that low amount for a perfectly good vac compared to the cost of an entirely new vac. I am probably going to upgrade to a newer model anyway for the house soon due to the cost dropping recently and the beater bar brushes have pretty much worn out but will still keep this one for odd jobs, some hard floor cleaning since the beater bar isn't used for that type of floor anyway, and the car etc as it still works perfectly otherwise (no loss of suction power even after the bin nears full). Reminder tip-If you start to have suction loss it most likely going to be a plugged foam filter & backup pad, and/or the tiny hepa filter. I ditched the hepa filter early as it plugged way too often and I don't need that level of filtration anyway. Aftermarket foam filters are very reasonable in cost by the way and work perfectly. Easiest way to clean the foam filter is to tap it outside on a hard wall edge or the edge of the trash can etc. Only really need to wash it out a couple times a year unless the exhaust air starts to smell then I simply work some simple green into it and rinse well and then dry well for a couple days before using. The only two things I don't care for with this brand although it seems to be another common trait between brands is the oddball size for hose & accessories. Standard 1-1/4" attachments will not fit so I cannot utilize any in the big box of collected attachments I already have without a reducing adapter. The one I found as mentioned above works great by the way. Wish they would not make them with proprietary sizing or at least provide an adapter so your not so limited. And I don't care for the way the included attachments mount on the vac. They don't hold very well and can be knocked off very easily. I do wish I could find some sort of rack similar to the storage racks available for Dyson models. I have not really checked yet to see if both manufacturers utilize the same size hose even though they appear to be close. If they do that would be great since there are some nice attachment racks that would really help with storage. Overall this is still the best that also has a no-loss of suction design for a relatively inexpensive vac that you can find. You will be happy with the brand. ... show more

Cannot vacuum over any rugs - sucks the rug right up! Very hard to push on carpets. Do not recommend and would not purchase again...

  • Good buy for the price
Love how this Shark picks up! Long extension cord for getting all around a large room. The attachments help with getting in to small crevices and cleaning dust and pet hair off of the sofa. Really good buy for the money!
