I have family that oddly seems to shed a lot of hair. That means that I was continually cutting out hair from rollers on vacuums, especially from the Dyson, which greatly increased the vacuuming time. The self-cleaning feature on this vacuum actually worked. I never had to clean the roller even once. Lightweight, powerful everything seemed great. But after 18 months the roller stopped working completely and not because it was clogged as I could spin it with my hand easily. The main vacuum motor turns on and produces suction, but the roller does not turn. And apparently, it's not easy to fix a Shark vacuum. Edit - After reading the troubleshooting, it appears that you can reset a sensor to get the motor to run again. You do so by putting handle to the floor. ... show more

I've tried so many "pet" vacuums that just did not work, even with my short-hair dogs. This one actually works. The maneuverability is great, the suction is extremely powerful, and the anti-wrap roller brush is ACTUALLY anti-wrap (accidentally picked up a thread hanging from a curtain and it came right out). It picked up the carpet powder I had sprinkled on my area rug in just a couple of passes with NO dust thrown in the air and the powerful suction with the attachments was perfect for the crevices around the walls. Works great and the collection bin is very easy to take off and dispose of whatever you may have sucked up. We use for everything from pet hair to floors to cleaning out the pellet grill. We would definitely purchase again if we need another vacuum. The only drawback I have found is it is not very sturdy when using the wand and will tip over very easily. To combat this I try to lean against something so it can not tip and place it very close to whatever I am working on so that the hose does not tug on the main body. ... show more

Why is this not five stars? Because it falls over. If you use the hose and attachments, this vacuum will fall over. Aside from that, awesome vacuum. I bought this bad boy years ago and it still works like the first time I used it. It's light and has a convenient handle to move it around the home easily. It does very well on hard surfaces and carpet. It works on rugs. It's noise level doesn't offend my cats. I've never had to take it apart to clean hair out of it, and it shows no sign of needing me to. I only need to pass over any spot once to get everything that would bother me. As someone who wanders around the house barefoot, I can feel the difference. This vacuum rocks. It takes me no time to finish vacuuming the whole apartment. I like this way more than my parent's dyson because it's better at picking up debris, is quieter, and is significantly lighter (granted, their vacuum is an older model, but I swear it's the heaviest mfer I've had to deal with, even as an adult). The price is super reasonable. When I got out of college, I couldn't imagine spending 300 bucks on a new vacuum, so I went with this one instead. This ol bird will last and outperform those twice its price. Totally worth the $150. Buy it. Unless you are using this exclusively for vacuuming out cars and tons of carpeted stairs, buy this vacuum. ... show more

First let me just say, wow. I was so tired of living in filth with my old vacuum, my house never actually got clean no matter how long I spent on the floors so I decided it was time for an upgrade. I’m a professional dog watcher and majority of my house is hardwood floors so my house is always full of dog hair, this vacuum had good reviews so I decided to try it out, I got the refurbished version because who doesn’t like to save some bucks? I was so excited to get this vacuum and literally as soon as it was delivered I opened it up and assembled it. Assembly was so simple. As soon as I ran it through that first dirt pile I was sold. There’s a hard floor setting and a carpet setting and either one you put it on the suction is unlike any vacuum I’ve ever had before, I don’t think there’s one dog hair left in this house honestly. I used the attachment on my couch and it feels so much cleaner now. The wand attachment is great too I can even get those corner cobwebs with this thing. The vacuum on the heavy side but I don’t have any stairs so that doesn’t bother me, and it rolls so smoothly I never had to lift it up. I will buy this vacuum until it is discontinued. I bought this vacuum (renewed) three years ago. It has worked pretty well -- the suction is good, emptying the canister is easy, etc. -- but it's major flaw is that it falls over if you're using the suction tube. Not so much a problem at first, but the vacuum doesn't feel super sturdy, and after years of falling over, something is broken that makes it feel like it's falling apart when I use it. On top of that, recently suction stopped working and I discovered the hose had torn. I tried removing it from the end it attaches to the machine, and this turned into quite a project that ended in a duct tape fix. I'm not sure how long vacuums are supposed to last -- according to Google, 8 years -- but this one just isn't very durable. ... show more
