Best invention since the cordless phone… Awesome!

I’m 75 years old and have owned more vacuum cleaners than I care to think about. I purchased another brand cordless vacuum stick last month and really liked it until it died after just a few weeks… Researching for a replacement with better reliability, I found this wonderful Shark Vacuum Stick…. My initial impression was that it’s a bit heavy and slightly clunky compared to the Samsung model I just returned, but after using this baby a few times I love it. It’s AWESOME! This Shark does a great job cleaning my dark brown bamboo floors and the area rugs in my 3000 square foot house without recharging. The Samsung had to recharge after about 1500 sq Ft. Emptying the large dirt bin isn’t an unpleasant experience, and after releasing the motor/canister from the stick I was impressed with how easy disassembly and reassembly went… At my age, dust on baseboards and chair rails, as well as some dirt in corners and other hard to reach areas has become the norm. My Roomba and the corded uprights just couldn’t get those hard to reach areas on the floors, and it’s just too hard on my knees and back to crawl around more than a few times each year. I found accessories on all upright cleaners too awkward and difficult to use…. but I was inspired by the Shark’s light weight and gave it a try… All I can say is WOW! Baseboards, corners and close to furniture and cabinets are now spotless! My house hasn’t been this clean in a long time… Best of all, I’m not exhausted from the task. LOVE my Shark cordless stick vacuum!!! Time will tell about long-term reliability and battery life. Some good news I found in my research… the replacement battery cost for the Shark is about half the cost of a Samsung battery. Next time this vacuum goes on sale I’ll be buying several as presents for friends and family! My advice is buy two or three of these…. One for yourself and one for your elderly parents/grandparents… they’ll love it and thank you for it! UPDATE**** Still going strong at about 4 months use. I ordered an extra battery, which is easily swapped out. Just push a button and the battery releases. I was given two Dyson V6 cordless vacuums by a neighbor who isn’t very mechanically inclined … The Dyson isn’t the latest model, but a comparison: After ordering aftermarket batteries, it was easy to remove a few screws and replace the originals. The Shark is quieter, easier to use, and definitely easier to swap a spare battery. The Dyson is a bit prettier, and may have slightly more suction, although it’s only a one speed suction. Both will get the job done. If you want to impress someone else, get a Dyson. If you want a better all around machine at a good price, get the Shark. ... show more

Works, but would a cheaper option work, too?

I'm so glad I finally opted to purchase a cordless vacuum instead of a corded one! Did I need to get one this fancy? ...I'm not sure I needed to. I've been using this vacuum for about three months now. I decided to go with this model because of the high rating that Vacuum Wars gave it. My apartment has a lot of carpet, so I needed something that could handle carpet well while also performing decently in the smaller vinyl-floored spaces we have. The dual brush rollers do a fantastic job. They do so well, in fact, that I empty it about three times in the process of vacuuming my 1100 sq ft apartment at once. The canister gets filled pretty quickly, but I also noticed that I started having to empty it so that all the fluff and fur don't mess with the PowerDetect system (elaborated on more below). This makes me very glad that I did not get the premium version that empties with its own auto-empty dock because that would be impractical since I have to empty the canister every 7 minutes. It seems that when the stuff that I vacuum starts wrapping around the metal cone near the filter, the vacuum thinks that the floor is "dirtier" and thus uses the higher power setting to try to compensate for the loss of suction that it detects with its PowerDetect system. In a way, this just reminds me that I need to empty the waste canister. I'm not sure that the special power-changing feature is worth the extra money, though. The other "perk" that this vacuum features with this detection system is that it senses when the vacuum is by an edge and increases the suction on that side to help pick up debris more efficiently. This sounds like a good idea, but I find it doesn't really help too much because I usually don't go all the way along the edge of a wall long enough for the vacuum to do its job. One could argue that this is user error; I'm just arguing that it's a feature that doesn't get used enough with practical usage. Battery run time, as usual with any battery-powered device, does not live up to the advertised 70-minute run time. I know that this is assuming that the vacuum is on the lowest power setting and isn't necessarily what the consumer can expect to get with average use. I find that I can just barely finish vacuuming my whole apartment in one round with the vacuum. A quirk is that if you turn the vacuum off when the battery is around half or below and then try to turn it back on, sometimes it won't because it says the battery is too low. If it does turn on, it sometimes shows a decrease from what the battery capacity remaining was displaying ten seconds before. The final thing of note is that the vacuum cannot stand up on its own. You can't set it in the corner easily because the top is too heavy. That's why you have to bend it and store it hunched over. This might be marketed as a feature, but it seems like it was just a weird way of not fixing an issue and pretending it was intentional. Overall, is this a good vacuum? Yes it is! It cleans well. I just don't think that it is worth spending more money for a fancier vacuum with features that don't seem to make much of a difference with average-consumer usage. I would be curious to try a cheaper cordless vacuum with dual brush rollers because I think that would do about the same job. Edit 10 months later: I changed the review to 5 stars because, well, the vacuum works! I’m glad I got it at this point. The only “drawbacks” I’ve been noticing are how quickly the container fills up and how I sometimes can’t do the entire apartment at once. However, the vacuum is easy to use. I don’t constantly think, “Man, this doesn’t work/I wish I got a different one/I wish this worked better…” The vacuum does the job. I’m not sure that a cheaper one would do as good of a job on the essentials. Do I need the extra features? Not necessarily. But maybe, to get good basic performance, it happens to have other features as well? Overall, it’s a good vacuum. I’d recommend it. ... show more

Great product, not sure if i'd buy again

I was really excited for this product but i was a tad disappointed. It does really well picking up cat litter and dog hair! I also love how lightweight it is and super easy to use. My concern is the quality of the product material and design for the money. You cannot store the vacuum in "ready to use" positioning because it's too heavy with the battery and the cup at the top. You have to take the top off each time you're done using it and slip it into the bottom- but it doesn't click in place which lacks stability and security. i dropped the top piece from 3in above the ground and the piece around the power button broke bc the plastic used wasn't durable. for best user design, the top piece should lock into place on the bottom so the handle can still be used for carrying the vacuum around. while i love this vacuum and it meets our needs, i wouldn't buy this product again nor would i spend more than $150 on it. ... show more

I have been looking to replace my bulky vacuum for almost a year, reading reviews and doing research. We live in a civil war home with the original hardwood plank floors. This vacuum has exceeded my expectations! It’s lightweight and so much handier to take up and down the steps, the attachments make keeping the open ceiling beams dust free. The light is bright so I can see under the couch, beds and those other dark spaces that a bulky vacuum can’t reach without bending down to reach. It’s a lot quieter as well. I am able to finish the whole house on one charge. Added bonus, I can clean out my car too since it’s cordless. It doesn’t take up much room, just take it apart for storage! Super simple to empty the canister. This is a game changer! For reference, I had just vacuumed with my old sweeper and just look what the Shark picked up. Pretty jarring considering I vacuum every other day! ... show more

Update: Do Not Buy This!!! They never had an extra battery back in stock. I bought this in January of 2025. It is August 2025 now. Today, my battery quit. I always keep it plugged in when not using it so it should have been fully charged. It died just as I was finishing up the last room. It has never ever came close to dying previously. According to the manual, it takes 6 hours to charge from dead. I have it plugged in now. I looked at their website-no battery. The batteries have a 2 year warrenty but they can't send what they don't have. I called customer service who was very very nice and I have had it escalated upword. I was offered a new vacuum but I don't need a new vaccum just the battery and it would be beyond ridiculous to trash a perfectly good vaccuum and I don't have the room to store an extra one. I should have sent it back after purchase when I discovered that an extra battery wasn't available. There must be batteries somewhere because they are still making these as far as I know and all the new ones come with batteries. They should just canabilize a unit and send it to me. I will update this reveiw when a final resolution is made. It will probably be me just trashing the thing after all and buying a different brand. If Shark won't support their products, I will not continue to buy anything from them. Including their Ninja products! Original Review. I have used Shark products for decades. My last stick was a Shark Ion Duo that finally gave out. This one has some new improvements. I like the automatic carpet to floor adjustment and the edge detect. However it does have some issues: 1. It needs a edge detect on the front of the machine too. There are some areas that are on edges but you can't get the machines edges turned that direction to clean because there is no room. Like in the kitchen area if you have an "L" or "U" shaped kitchen. 2. It really does good on MOST carpets and hard surfaces. It does fine with my nubby commercial foot wipe mats at the front and back doors. It does not glide as easily over my plush dining room area rug as my old Shark did. It requires some pushing. It is absolutely horrible on my living room area rug. I have to vacuum in very particular directions depending where I am at on the rug. The rug is multi level. It is designed as squares with a low tuft "nubby" design in each one. Kind of resembling a tapestry. The squares are joined together with "stripes" of higher tuft plush carpet between the squares and surrounding the whole rug. My older Shark vacuum glided over it effortlessly on the "Carpet" setting no matter what direction I vacuumed. Not this one. If I am not vaccuming in the "correct" direction in a particular section of the carpet, it will not budge. I have to either pick it up and put forward of the section and then pull the vacuum backwards or go around my coffee table to the other side to move forward. There must just be a visually imperceptable difference in the tufts directionality or it just doesn't like the very frequent shift in height . Whatever the reason, that carpet is a PIA to vaccuum. Fortunately, for now, we found a replacement motor for the old one on Ebay. Should have done that first! The old one now works. If we had done that first, we wouldn't have needed the new one. :( 3. Shark is not fully supporting this unit yet. I wanted to buy an extra battery but it has yet to be in stock at Sharks website. Initially, I considered sending the unit back because of this. However, the battery lasts much longer than the Duo Cleans did. I had 3 for that one and I had 2 charging in it's special Duo charger and one in the vaccuum at all times. It did not charge while in the vacuum. With the new one, I plug it in while I am between rooms ( I dust, vac and mop one room at a time and then go to the next) and I have yet to run out of life. However, sooner or later that one will start charging less efficiently and then I will need a new one so it does bother me that I can't get one. Other accessories for this product are not in stock either. 4. The dirt collection unit removal latch is difficult to find as well as the latch to actually dump it. The instructions are not helpful. I know I could have purchased the fancy auto dirt dump unit that goes with it but I am not paying that much extra for a small convenience. 5. On my old Shark ION Duo, taking the head off to use the wand was a simple process. There was a nice little lever that you used your foot to press. Easy! On this new one, there is a depressable button that you have to use your hands for. This means laying the vacuum down on a high flat surface or stand it on the couch in order to press it. unless you have the strenght to hold it up with one hand and press with the other. Since the head would then fall to the floor, I don't reccomend that. Otherwise you have to prop it up with one hand and squat and press the button with the other. This feature has definitly regressed in functionality. NTM, my hand strength has decresed over the years (I am 72) due to arthritis and Carpal Tunnell surgery and the button is difficult for me to press hard enough to get the dang thing off. 6. On my old Duo, there was a nice handle just for lifting the thing to carry it from room to room. Not on the new one. This is a PIA if you have different levels. 7. Like my old Shark, once you remove the head you are lightless. I have solved this issue (on both old and new) by rigging up a Macgyver. I take a "pencil" flashlight and tape it to the wand with shipping tape wrapped around it and I just turn it on when I need it. It seems like Shark could create an integrated solution to this. Note to Shark, lots of cleaning gets done when it is dark. Surprise! 8. No Hair Wrap!!!! It lives up to this claim. I have hair past my shoulders and I seem to shed it all the time even though it never seems any thinner. On the old ION Duo, I had to clip the hair from the brush at least weekly and it was a royal PIA. The fact that this doesn't need it, partly makes up for some of it's other shortcomings. ... show more

Outstanding overall vacuum.

I absolutely love this vacuum! It cleans extremely well, and the automatic sensing feature that detects whether you’re on a hard floor or a rug is amazing. No more having to switch settings manually! It makes cleaning so much easier and more efficient. The speed of the vacuum is good and helps get cleaning areas done quickly. Also it’s not a super bulky vacuum so it fits really well in a hall closet or corner of a room/ office. The vacuum also charges quickly which is great when having a big cleaning day and needing to clean a lot of rooms. The lights on the vacuum are also bright enough to detect dirt, pet hair, and dust so you can really ensure the area your vacuuming stays clean. Highly recommend! ... show more

Excellent with pet hair, but not without some downsides

First the good news - the Shark Vertex Pro is phenomenal at sucking up pet hair. First-rate for that. The filtration seems perfectly fine, and the head very quickly and easily detaches from the wand - turning it into a powerful hand-held vac. The "self-cleaning brushroll" works great, and seems to eliminate the issues I've had with hair wrapping around the brush on other vacuum cleaners. But the Vertex Pro is not without it's downsides. The product description claims that it has "The power and cleaning performance of a full-size vacuum (in boost mode" ... and also states "60 minutes of runtime (when used as a handheld in ECO mode)". While both of these statements may be true, you never get both. In ECO mode, I would rate it among the worst-performing cordless vacs and in normal mode it's about average. In boost mode, however, the battery life is abysmal ... but in addition, the charging is very slow. To make matters worse, it won't even START charging until the battery has cooled down! The net result is that it takes at least three or four charges to clean an average house, with a horrifically long wait time in between each charge. The dust catcher is relatively easy to empty, but it's quite small. Even a 10 minute cleanup job will require emptying it twice. Lastly, the $450 'list price' is absolutely ridiculous. Luckily, it's frequently on sale at 50% off ... but even at $~250, it's hard to justify the expense. For a quick clean of a few area rugs, this vac is amazing - especially if you're overwhelmed with pet hair. ... show more

I have been a "vacuum connoisseur" since I was a teenager - my Mom kept a clean house and I inherited her enjoyment of a clean house. Vacuuming is my favorite house chore - it actually relaxes me, so I always enjoy having a great vacuum that is easy to use. Right now, we have four doggos - Husky/GSD/Malamute mix, Husky/GSD/Dingo mix, GSD/Cattledog mix, and a purebred Carolina Dog (American Dingo). As you can imagine - we have a LOT of fur around here. My dogs literally shed twice a year - six months in the spring and six months in the fall. :) I vacuum the entire house at least once a day and sometimes twice. I've had several cordless vacs - two from Dyson, one from Bissell, and two from Shark. The Dysons were dismal at picking up fur, and the Bissell was worse. And don't even get me started on the robot vacuums - we have had four (Roombas, Bobi, and Eufy) - completely ineffective and a waste of money. I got my first Shark Rocket Pet Pro vacuum in 2017, and I can't say enough about it! I have vacuumed up tons of fur with it, and it has always had great suction, great power, and it's easy to keep it clean. I just replace the filters on it every month or two, and that's all the maintenance it needs. That poor vacuum died last week (through no fault of its own). I spent three days researching cordless vacuums, and kept coming back to the Shark Rocket Pet Pro. I bought a second to replace the first, and am still in love with this vacuum. Bonus: The new one that I bought has the upgraded handle with the hook for the motor, so it can stand on its own and be easily stored. The ONLY issue I have with this vacuum (and it's not a huge problem): The self-cleaning brushroll is AMAZING! But - I have to stop once in a while and pull a ball of white Husky fur out of the floor attachment - the hole behind the brushroll that takes the debris up the long rod to the dustcup gets clogged (I tried to show a picture of it). When this gets blocked, the vacuum won't pick anything up. Again, not a deal breaker, especially with the self-cleaning brushroll, but it is the one less-than-perfect aspect of this unit. And I'm probably the only one in the world with this issue, because I have my beautiful fur-factory doggos running around here. :) Overall, I adore this cordless vac and will recommend it to everyone! ... show more
