I've only used this appliance one time; but it did a fantastic job of frying chicken legs. Previously, I used a cast iron skillet to fry my fish or chicken. Love cast iron; but on the stove top, you have to continuously adjust the burner settings to keep oil temperature constant. This Secura deep fryer automatically makes temperature adjustments. As I cooked, I monitored the oil temperature with an infrared thermometer. It exactly matched the dial setting throughout the cook. It knows when to turn the elements on to raise the heat. And, it has a light on the panel that confirms this process. Setting up the appliance for first use was extremely easy. I didn't even read any instructions. (not advising you to take shortcuts.) Mostly it was common sense. The heating element can be removed from pot by simply lifting the control panel straight up. Clean the appliance before first use. There are a couple of cons. The power cord is very short. (about 30 inches.) I'm guessing the manufacturer made it short for safety reasons. If the appliance should ever fall off the counter, the power cord would easily detach because it is held in place with magnetic contacts. This sucks if you have 12 inch-deep cabinets that protrude over a two foot-wide counter. Putting the appliance at the very lip of your counter will still mean that the exhaust from the fryer will baste your cabinets with hot moisture. Could damage the finish of cabinet doors. I'm not advising anybody to connect an extension cord to this appliance. The manufacturer strongly says Don't. However, I do own a bunch of 10 gauge extension cords, ranging from 4 to 100 feet in length. Bought most of them from Amazon. 10 gauge is a safer wire than the 12 or 14 gauge socket you currently use. Just saying. I use my 10 gauge cords for a lot of heavy electrical drain devices such as pool pump, infrared heaters, induction cook top, welder, battery charger, log splitter, air compressor, etc. Again, not advising you to use a 10 gauge extension cord with the Secura Deep Fryer. Just saying it is the perfect length to allow me to place my deep fryer on top of my stove which has a vent fan to remove moisture and cooking odors. The next "con" involves the wire cooking basket. I suppose these wire baskets are common throughout the industry among all manufacturers. The mesh on these baskets is small. OK, insures you can fry peas or termites without items dropping from basket. Somebody please manufacture a basket that will not clog up with egg battered recipes. (half inch spaces between bars.) On your first use, I suggest you lower basket into hot oil BEFORE adding battered food. Otherwise, coating might stick to mesh basket. On my second load of chicken legs, they did not stick. In fact, drumsticks floated as they neared completion. Don't overload basket. Fried foods need lots of space between portions. Unlike competitors, the Secura will quickly reheat for the next batch. My oil was ready before I finished coating the next round. In summary, the Secura 4litre deep fryer is a great first buy for the typical consumer. Very affordable. Cooks perfectly. Heats oil quickly, and maintains desired temperature. As an Amazon customer, you know you can return any defective purchase, so don't put too much weight on those one-star ratings. By the way, large chicken drumsticks (twice battered) were done in about 14 minutes. Many foods will probably require less time. There is a glass port that allows you to see when food is floating. This is when you need to remove cover and check doneness with a food thermometer. YouTube is a great source for deep fryer recipes.

The capacity is absolutely massive, and it does a great job at doing what it is supposed to. I do feel that it falls short in the design. The "Max Fill" line is only visible from the outside, so it is very easy to add too much oil to the reservoir. Also, if you use the oil filter on the lid, this will cause the oil to leak toward the outside of the fryer all together, there should have been an extruded portion to prevent this from happening

Really convenient. It keeps all that greasy mess from getting on my counters when I’d cook on the stove. I like the lid. It holds a lot and the fact that it comes with 1 big basket and 2 smaller ones is perfect. It does take a lot of oil. Like a lot. But that’s to be expected. Cleaning is a breeze too since you just remove the oil holder thing and wash. You don’t have to worry about holding it a certain way to not get this part wet or that part wet. It’s a perfect design.

This thing is huge. I have fried chicken tenders, Oreos, nuggets, mozzarella sticks, and chicken wings in here since I ordered this! We love it. I know air fried is “healthier” but nothing beats fresh deep fried hot chicken tenders. It was super easy to clean. Dumped out the oil, wiped out the pan. The fry baskets handles come off pretty easy and I throw the baskets in my dishwasher. I love the design, the handles are on each side of the fryer so I can pick it up easily without burning my self and move it wherever I need. The pan is solid so there’s no worry on leaking. I love the lid. Helps with kids running in and out of the kitchen.

I had a different fryer that was all one piece with a basket. It was smaller. I love this one!!! It has more room, I like these'd timer even though I don’t need it. I like how it keeps it the correct temperature. It cooks extremely well. Yes it uses more oil but I am glad for the extra space!! It’s easy to take apart the base that holds the oil and clean it. It’s weird seeing the heating element but it works great so I’m very happy!!

Update 10/03/2013 We were so happy with this product until the product stopped working for us. We contacted the manufacturer before the warranty date, only to get the run around. We spoke with one lady who informed us that a replacement would be sent out to us. Well we spoke with many more Secura employees only to receive the run around. We did exactly what they asked us to do. Destroy the product take pictures of the destroyed product, send pictures, order number, address, email address, phone number. We did everything they asked us to do! Did we receive a replacement no! What we received was the run around. Every time we called, we were asked for the same information over and over, order number, address etc. Then we were told a manager would get back with us, did they no! We emailed the information several times! We will never purchase anything from this company again! This company took the joy out of deep frying, family time! Not the way to do business or treat your customers! Solution: we called amazon and reported this behavior and bad service to them. Amazon Thank you for fixing the problem! We were issued a refund and will take our funds to another company for a deep fry! Buyer beware! ********************** Original review*************** We are so happy to have such an awesome fryer! We had a small presto that went out after ten years are so.. So we started looking for a new fryer and came across this one after not finding one at Wal mart. We started looking a long time ago but would look off and on. When our small fryer went out we started REALLY looking for a real fryer.. Well this one fits the bill, and now we want to know why and how we went so long with out a fryer like this one! We are a family of more than six and now we can fry food in no time.. and enjoy James Bond 007! This makes for some great fun! This fryer comes with 3 baskets and we love the way you can sit the basket up on the fryer to let the oil drip off. We bought this one because it comes with 3 baskets, handles and extra oil filter.. We also like that the top is not attached and the handles are also not attached. We like the timer and the size of the deep fryer.. We usually like to buy all black appliances for our kitchen. This one comes in stainless steal which looks so nice in our kitchen.. Now this deep fryer is also easy to clean for me, because all of the parts come off/apart.. So the timer comes apart from the whole deep fryer, and the pan for the deep fryer also comes out.. I did not know this until I started cleaning after frying wings (which were so good! and cooked in less time than our old fryer) I can see why some one said they use several of these in their restaurant as back up fryers.. The baskets are really good quality and so is the whole fryer.. I went on line and in Wal mart to find a fryer and this is the best deep fryer that I could find. As far as the price, this fits our budget and we are happy with such a great find. So far we have had fried fish, french fries, hush puppies, onion rings, and wings. We don't eat a lot of fried food and we do like to fry food maybe twice a month. We now have fun with fish fries or any fry! If you are looking for a nice quality fryer this is it! Enjoy with some James Bond movies!
