I bought this drive to use in a NAS installation. I realize its marketed as a surveillance drive but that also means its expected to have a 100% duty cycle, this drive is meant to be written to pretty much continuously. It should work fine in a nas installation. Also note that you CANNOT boot from this drive, Seagate has disabled that functionality. The drive is super quiet even when its busy. ... show more

Now that I have had time to try this out with no trouble, after so much trouble with WD purple went through two drives and both stopped working with in two weeks. I will be staying with Seagate Skyhawk.

I bought this in April of 2017 for a 4K Lorex Security camera system and it died in May 2023. I guess 6 years is a good run for a drive in a security camera system. There are much newer drives on the market now so this time I tried WD 8tb model.
