  • Quality Product & Great Amazon Return Service
Capacity: 8TB Style: HDD
The first one of these I got turned into a brick in about 48 hours. In almost 40 years of using hard drives this was only my second HD failure and the first to not give me a warning! Since it was to be used as a backup and there was no operational impact, I didn't lose anything, but I was ready to do a negative review. But I sent it back to Amazon as a return and got a replacement. The return was VERY easy. The replacement arrived well BEFORE the projected delivery date (as had the original). I installed it, initialized it, formatted it and started the backups. WORKS LIKE A CHARM. And it is noticeably quieter than the lower capacity Seagate drive it replaced. I am going with the five-star rating as I understand occasionally products fail. And I would rather they fail early on than later! AND I liked Amazon's response. ... show more

  • A good NAS solution
Capacity: 8TB Style: HDD
Spindle drives are reliable, less expensive solutions for surveillance and NAS. They aren't as fast, but they make up for it in reliability. An enterprise NVMe drive has an expected life of 6 months in a NAS RAID. Enterprise M.2 & SATA III solid state drives last longer, but should always be installed as RAID 6 or double redundancy as they are not as reliable. Enterprise spindle NAS drives have 5 year warranties. The Seagate IronWolf PRO 8TB model is 7200RPM and CMR (AKA PMR). Understand that the warranty only covers the drive, not data recovery. That is why you are building a RAID in the first place. DO NOT INSTALL NAS DRIVES IN A SINGLE DRIVE FORMAT. Is it possible, yes. Is it a good idea, no. NAS drives do not have drive recovery built into the drive since you want the RAID controller to handle the error in order to ensure drive parity. Desktop drives such as the Seagate Barracuda are less expensive, and are able to handle errors at the disk level. Both drives prefer to run 24/7, but NAS drives are more sensitive to power cycling as well. For similar money to NAS drives, desktops and laptops are better off with NVME or solid state drives since they are faster and more power efficient. Just make sure to back up your data regularly since they aren't as reliable. The best part of these particular drives is how they are setup for a system builder. The package opens up to a drive in an anti static bag surrounded by bubble wrap. There are no instructions, software, hardware, or other things to get in the way. Less waste, and easy to handle packaging is a nice treat. If you do not have the parts to install the drives, you should seek other solutions. The drives are audible when they are seeking data on the platters. This may be annoying to some. The read / write speeds are spec for the SATA technology. Don't expect fast transfer rates. Expect a reliable RAID 5 or RAID 6 to protect your data. If you are setting up a new NAS, make sure you match the brand, size, revision, and firmware if possible. Never rely on software RAIDS also know as expanding RAIDS. ... show more

  • A little noisier than the average drive but not bad
Capacity: 20TB Style: HDD Pro
I'm using these in a Synology DS1621xs+ NAS. I have 4 of these drives installed in it so far and I'm planning to add another two soon enough. I have the drives in a RAID6 configuration and they have been working perfectly, no issues at all and fast data access (each drive can do around 250MB/s read at the high end from what I've seen). They are a bit noisy but not horrible. I'd say definitely don't use these if you're going to have your NAS sitting in your living room without any kind of enclosure. I'm in the process of building an enclosure for mine. Overall I'm loving these drives and the price vs capacity is about as good as you'll be able to find right now. ... show more

  • Great hard drive for my Nas Synology DS220+
Capacity: 12TB Style: HDD
Like all mass boxes or at least most of them this is simply a drop in and let your Nas start mirroring the internal drive. So far two months in this has been a great purchase. It’s much quieter and seems like it’s less active than my old Drive that went out, which was probably fighting for his life lol. I’m buying another one soon to match it, but I couldn’t afford to buy them both at once. It is best to match hard drives in a mass or at least the speeds and type of memory in the drive which this one is CMR. Definitely happy with the purchase. ... show more

  • Not anywhere near the capacity they claim
Capacity: 8TB Style: HDD
I like Seagate drives and have had decent luck with them in the past. I bought four 8TB drives, and they all worked out of the box. I know you don't get the exact storage amount that they claim it's usually a little bit less and they just round the number up, but usually you get about 90% of whatever the amount the drive is rated for. Unfortunately, the 8 TB drive ended up being 7.26 TB, which is which is closer to 7 TB than eight. In other words, these should've been 7.6 TB or better. That might not seam like much but when you are using 4 drive in a RAID 5 config you are loosing close to 2 TB of space If that wasn't bad enough when I went to go register the product (because these are commercial grade and they actually have a long enough warranty and a three-year data recovery coverage plan to make it worth the effort unlike one year for their consumer grade drives) their website was not working right and would not let me register the products. I had to wait three days for their website to finally work. ... show more

  • Great drives, just watch who you buy from
Capacity: 4TB Style: HDD
I own a couple of these already and they have performed amazingly, but this last purchase was not great. I bought it from a seller here named "Price Master Jay" and it was shipping in a torn up used box, sandwiched between two old pieces of foam, and no ESD bag at all. Just plain and shoved in a box and sliding around. Also, it was completely dead, just sits there and clicks. Thankfully Amazon refunded the full amount the same day I dropped off the return. If you see any drives at a great price by "Price Master Jay", just pass them by. ... show more
