  • 20% bad on arrival
I ordered five under the 'black Friday' special that was going on (27% off IIRC). Of those five, one reported errors on my NAS and had to be replaced. At least I was able to get Amazon to send a brand new drive to replace it (did that the day I installed that drive and got the error). Replacement drive took days to arrive (didn't ship with Prime level, even though I ordered the originals under Prime). Once my NAS rebuilt the array with the replacement drives (process that took several days, but that was expected), I was able to expand the array to fill (after fighting the array there, but that just needed a full reboot to get to happen). I replaced five Barracuda drives with these. I know, desktop drives don't belong in a NAS. Which is why I went with these. I do plan to order one more to keep on hand in case I get a drive failure while under warranty (to swap out while the replacement is sent). I also plan to get a newer NAS in the next 2-3 years and will migrate important data to that so that when these drives do fail, I can retire the array. Something that needs to be planned since it's now approaching 10 years old. The fact that the [QNAP] NAS continues to work as expected means a lot to me. I'll be looking to see what the manufacturer has available when I'm ready for it's replacement. ... show more

  • I can just pop a blank 3TB drive into the Synology and the remaining good Raid 1 drive will rebuild the mirror onto the ...
Seagate is my trusted brand in conventional hard disk drives, and their new IronWolf NAS drives lived up to my expectations. Purchased after an older Seagate died after 4+ years of 24/7 operation inside my Synology 212+ Diskstation NAS 2-drive unit. So, to be save, I created a dual Raid 1 "Mirror" array with a pair of these IronWolf drives inside. Now, if one drive degrades (fails), I can just pop a blank 3TB drive into the Synology and the remaining good Raid 1 drive will rebuild the mirror onto the new blank drive, and Bob's your relative! ... show more

  • Drive failed in March 2023
Purchased one in June 2017 and failed in March 2023.

  • Better than desktop drives
Having run desktop drives for 5+ years, all of my NAS units failed within 1 week of each other. My 5 redundant storage systems became 1 last remaining. These disks are super fast and work perfectly in my Synology NAS systems. They are very quiet & a few degrees cooler than the desktop version. Time will tell if they outlast the Seagate desktop versions they replace. After 1 month use, zero reconnections or errors. ... show more

  • Great and reliable drive. Packaging was terrible though.
The drive is great. Good value in terms of cost per GB. Quiet, Reliable, 3 years in NAS so far. Bu the recent drive arrived in a soft envelope, with zero padding around it. None. Zilch, just the anti static wrapping. I would not have been surprised had the drive failed when installed. Needs to be wrapped guys. Took off a star for that. ... show more

  • Great drives for a 24/7 NAS
I've been running three of these in my Plex Media Server 24/7 for a few weeks now. The server is a Windows 10 Professional box using Storage Spaces and ReFS. I've had absolutely no issues with these, running multiple HD streams to two Apple TV's and an iPad mini. My NAS has 16TB total, most of the drives were Western Digital or HGST between 4-7 years, and considering their age, I'm definitely going to replace the drives with more of these as the older drives die. ... show more

  • Good NAS storage with a reasonable warranty
All of the drive manufacturers are basically crap compared to the good old SCSI days. I was happy to see a good price point on some decent capacity drives that had a 3yr warranty. I am slightly more optimistic about the reliability of the drives based on Seagate not wussing out on the warranty. We may never see drives with a 15yr MTBF again, but this is better than it's been for some time at the low end. ... show more

  • Great Drives for NAS
Using theses drives in my NAS from last 3 years. I have no issue in operation of the drives or bad sectors as of now. Highly recommended for NAS use. Pro drives are bit noisy but non-pro Iron Wolf drives are quite in operation.
