  • SMR drive that is unsuitable as an external drive
Style: BarraCuda 2.5-Inch Pattern Name: HDD Capacity: 2TB
Unfortunetly the hard drive manufacturers have been using this unreliable SMR technology to reduce costs on their drives, without telling consumers. There are many news articles about this. I had backed up 1.5TB of data to this drive over the course of 6 months and what happened is suddenly the write speeds were jumping to 0.1MB making it essentially take forever to transfer files. Not only that but even read speeds were going that slow! I thought for sure drive must be failing and I was worried all my data was gone. After a day of stress, I found out actually it is an SMR (shingled) drive and it was busy "defragging". This is not the type of fragmentation that can be solved with defragging software but due to the shingled technology of the drive. The fix was to leave it plugged in to my computer for 12 hours or so and eventually it was able to "defrag" and work again like normal. This is not what I expect from a hard drive. ... show more

  • Replaced my dead XBOX One hard drive (internal)
Style: BarraCuda 2.5-Inch Pattern Name: HDD Capacity: 2TB
This worked perfectly to revive my dead xbox one. The HDD had gone bad and a little research showed this should be a good replacement. XBOX internal max allowed size is currently 2TB so this was perfect. I followed the online instructions (not from Microsoft) and it worked like a charm! Very happy with it so far. Hard Drives only have a life-span of about 3-5 years. We'll see how long this one lasts :) ... show more

  • Don't purchase A Seagate hard drive
Style: BarraCuda 2.5-Inch Pattern Name: HDD Capacity: 2TB
I checked this hard drive out with Seatools diagnostic software before installing it in my laptop. It failed two out of the four hard drive tests. I checked it three times and every time it failed. I sent it back to Amazon and exchanged it for another hard drive. The second hard drive also failed the hard drive tests. The Seatools software has a Fix All command that is suppose to repair the hard drive. I tried it and it also failed. I will be sending this hard drive back and ask for my money to be returned. If you want I quality hard drive don't purchase Seagate. I will never purchase I Seagate product again. ... show more

  • Cost-Effective Upgrade
Style: BarraCuda 2.5-Inch Pattern Name: HDD Capacity: 2TB
When Dell declined to deliver my new laptop computer with a 2 TB hard drive, I ordered this one from Amazon. After installing Acronis True Image, I used it to clone the existing hard drive onto this one, using a handy USB hard drive enclosure. Then I replaced the existing hard drive in my Dell with this one. Boot-up with this new hard drive went without any issues while doubling the factory-supplied mass storage for my computer. Since then I've installed additiional software to use my new computer and continue to be pleased with this hard drive's performance. Based on the accumulation of files on my previous laptop, I'm confident that this additional storage capacity will serve my needs for several years. ... show more

  • works as expected
Style: BarraCuda 2.5-Inch Pattern Name: HDD Capacity: 1TB
Very good hard drive. I bought to put in my NZXT H200i case. This is a no thrills hard drive. It does what its suppose to do with no issues. Build quality feels pretty good. I ran a Crystal Disk Mark on it to benchmark my speeds. This hard drive is a bit on the slow side coming in at about 125MB/s sequential read/write speeds. That isn't a deal breaker though. Overall for what it is and for what you pay, I'd say this is a great buy. ... show more

  • SMR technology is cheap garbage
Style: BarraCuda 2.5-Inch Pattern Name: HDD Capacity: 1TB
In light of the non-reporting of SMR drives from hard drive makers, its becoming more and more apparent as to why they were not more transparent about the technology. It's because SMR or Shingled Magnetic Recording sucks. It is buggy, slow, and causes a lot of read/write errors where Windows was constantly running check/repair disk. I only expect this kind of hard drive behavior from an old and tired hard drive, not a new one out of the box. Do yourself a favor and don't buy this hard drive, or any of the latest SMR hard drives that Seagate, Western Digital, or Toshiba are currently releasing. Do some research, and buy certified non SMR or buy from older tech inventory. No matter what they say or what you hear, no matter what your intended plan of use is, save yourself the frustration and don't buy this or any other SMR hard drive. As for this particular hard drive, I've nothing but buyer's remorse for it. I cannot return it, because I've had it too long, and I really can't trust it. I was using it as a clone drive to support multiple computers, and it sucked at doing that job. So I put in a laptop to be a system drive, it sucked at doing that too. Windows installation takes a long time to complete, sometimes driver installs would take a time to install, and then writing anything at all just takes a long time. Reading isn't bad, but then some document files get corrupt or Checkdisk goes ape and wants to repair the drive. I had a very large spreadsheet that Excel reported was corrupt and needed repairs. When Excel finally opened the dang file, several "sheets" were missing from the spreadsheet altogether. So now this drive is unreliable, easily corruptible, and untrustworthy. Researching about SMR technology led me to the conclusion that SMR tech just isn't a good idea. ... show more

  • Fast, until it warms up
Style: BarraCuda 2.5-Inch Pattern Name: HDD Capacity: 2TB
This is a good product, but is not made for high volume throughput - nor advertised as such. It does slow down as it warms up when transferring larger amounts of data - I noticed it slow considerably after about 100GB of continuous throughput. But it does do great a short bursts. Use it as intended and it will serve you well. ... show more
