  • Great "Inexpensive" SSD
Capacity: 2TB Style: SATA SSD
I purchased this SSD with My own hard earned money and this review contains my experiences using it. Purchased July 2020 I purchases this SSD to replace a 2.5” HDD on my Video processing computer. After using a HDD for a long time I just got fed up with the slow transfer speed to my NAS and DAS. I tend to like to transfer to both storage system simultaneously. This was far beyond what a HDD could handle. The Barracuda can handle 2 simultaneous transfers at full HDD speeds ie: 100+ MB/s. This drive would also be a good choice for an OS disk in a computer or for a game library for faster load times than a HDD. The Barracuda has a 1.8M hour MTBF and can handle 1170 TBW (terabytes written). For perspective the Evo has a TBW of 1200 and 1.5MTBF (2TB model), and the Pro TBW 2400 and 1.5MTBF (2TB model). This is the first Seagate SSD I have ever purchased going way from Samsung. At the time I purchased it, it was less expensive than an Evo and performed slightly better. Before this I really haven’t purchase a Seagate in over 10year because I had found their HDD’s less reliable than other brands. But I am giving them a shot with SSD’s. Other information: Advantage for an SSD external it makes no noise since there are no moving parts. That said under heavy load it does make a high pitch wining sound, something my other SSD’s do not make. I have not experienced any issues with reliability yet. Hard drive Speed Compare: All testing was done with an external enclosure using CrystalDiskMark and a direct file copy (about 8GB) to the disk from an internal SSD. (Sorry No Pictures of the test runs): Seagate BarraCuda 120 2TB (Sata III 6Gbps): Seq Read: 556 MB/s, Seq Write: 537 MB/s, 4GB Transfer 456 MB/s Seagate FireCuda 120 4TB (Sata III 6Gbps): Seq Read: 551 MB/s, Seq Write: 523 MB/s, Samsung 860Evo 258GB (Sata III 6Gbps): Read 548 MB/s, Write 509 MB/s Samsung 850 Pro 1TB (Sata III 6Gbps): Seq Read 555 MB/s, Seq Write 508 MB/s WD Black NVMe 500GB (M.2 Pcie): Seq Read 3414 MB/s, Seq Write 2543 MB/s Sabrent Rocket NANO 1TB (USB3 10Gbps): Seq Read: 949 MB/s, Seq Write 945 MB/s, 4GB Transfer to drive 471 MB/s WD blue 1tb (WD10SPZX-22Z10T1): Read 128MB/s, Write 121MB/s, 4GB Transfer to drive 115 MB/s (Sata III connection) Disclaimer: Speed comparison for reference and speeds vary test to test this is just to get a basic idea of performance. This is also just a small selection of my hard drives that I have tested. One other note about my testing, I found that the FireCuda has better Random read/writes than the Barracuda. The Barracuda matched my 860Evo and 850Pro and even the NVMe WD Black random access speed. CrystalDiskMark test parameter for random: 4KiB Q32T8 & 4KiB Q1T1. Conclusion: I am happy with this SSD, I would buy it again should it be priced lower than a Samsung offering. This drive should not be used as a heavily rewritten storage, its TBW is just not enough, but the average user should not have any problems. ... show more

  • Super fast drive that lives up to it's numbers
Capacity: 500GB Style: M.2 SSD
Drive performed slightly above it's rated speed (500GB model). Really easy to clone my drive with Macrium Reflect software (free version). There are instructions online if you wish to go that route. Pleased overall with the drive.

  • Great performance, high temps
Capacity: 500GB Style: M.2 SSD
At this low cost, to receive PCIe 3 read and write speeds is spectacular. I use this as my boot drive, and primary game drive, and it performs extremely well. I did add a aftermarket cooler however since temps were very high out of box.

  • Works Fantastically Well once in place, Need to know a couple of things about Installation
Capacity: 2TB Style: SATA SSD
I was upgrading an OPTANE RAID configuration with an older Seagate Barracuda, so that presented a few challenges as I had to clear the old RAID partition on the HD once the ACRONIS software was finished. Of course you have to disable the OPTANE RAID before starting anything. Also, the current free Seagate clone software didn't like my SCSI cable connection for the SSD drive (during cloning), so I had to attach the SSD to the MB directly via SATA during the transfer. None of this would be clear to a relative novice, and I've used this product in simpler configs with no problems and through an external "Cable Matters" SCSI docking station. The drive is GREAT when installed, with my load speeds going from 0.5 mb/s to 80-100 mb/s (as measured by Task Manager). I read in various reviews that it won't win speed awards compared to other SSDs, but it seems faster than the Crucial drives I've put in over the last couple of years. ... show more

  • I am not impressed
Capacity: 1TB Style: SATA SSD
I have owned several other SSD's before, but this purchase was my 1st Seagate branded SSD. And I was underwhelmed by the slower read/write speeds and the software included. After installation I found it was Acronis trial ware. The read/write speeds are a little slower than advertised on it's product page. It's ok with a lot of the back up and image recovery software, if you want to buy it, but I am not paying for software that comes free from other vendors SSD's. ... show more

  • Works well with alienware desktop.
Capacity: 1TB Style: M.2 SSD
I am always a fan of SSD, but the product seemed to be a lot expensive for what it has to offer. For a computer programmer, the amount of extra speed offered in a M.2 is not worth the extra price. It is better to stick to a regular SSD drive, you can even get extra storage. I have a secondary SSD storage and I haven't seen any significant changes for performance among these two drives. If you are going for maximum optimal performance then I would recommend this or if you don't have a slot available for a regular SSD drive. Otherwise a big no. ... show more

  • Nice working SSD card but beware of speeds
Capacity: 1TB Style: M.2 SSD
As mentioned in other reviews, the speeds which this SSD card goes up to is 5,400 RPM, which is not the 72000 brand. These brand of SSD chips are also like long RAM chips, they are not the traditional SSD drives that came out for the bigger and thicker, laptop models. It is thin and light. I had this product installed by Geek-Squad since I am not a hardware specialist, and it has been tested to work with Windows 10 USB boot-up. This is a crucial step because if there are any problems with accepting the USB boot you won't be able to install the OS of your choice (could try with an external CD or internal CD if the machine is old but no guarantee that will work). The 1TB is actually 930 GB after a clean installation of Windows 10 with H2 edition. Plenty of space to use for MMO or heavy 3D applications such as Auto-Desk Maya. I've ran that in the background along with a movie, and a MMO and it seems to keep up with the pace without noticeable lag (with a 16GB RAM card). So far the SSD is working and I am currently satisfied with the purchase. I will be reviewing this in a month from now if there have been any changes or problems encountered. ... show more
