I have purchased many less expensive trash cans. This Rubbermaid trash can is worth the money. The trash bag stays in place no matter how full and the bags are easy to get out. The gray color does not show dirt.

This is a simple and compact trash bin, good size for a small kitchen or small family. It is sleek and clean-lined, not like a hamper or industrial looking one, but there are no LinerLock bag wires inside. A regular 13 gallon trash bag fits snuggly on the rim, although it does require some stretching and pulling. The trash bin came with some smudges. Need to be cleaned right out of the box. Some imperfections on the rim are sharp, but can be easily taken care of with a craft knife. The push button works just fine. No spring jumps out yet. A couple of differences between this one and the Spring Top 14.9 x 17.2 x 25.5 inches model is that this one does not have lock lid feature. The lid just sits loosely on top of the bin. Also, when the lid is in open position 1/4 of the opening is blocked and the lid sits 1 inch below the opening thus a higher chance to get trash caught on the lid by accident. Whereas the Spring Top model can open 100% without the lid blocking the opening, which is a nice feature. We bought this trash bin based on only one photo on its listing. Hope this helps! Update 3-23-2021: It's hard to believe buying a working trash bin could be so difficult. After being a bit disappointed by the Rectangle Spring Top, we bought the Spring Top. Turns out not only the new trash can arrived even dirtier than the Rectangle Spring Top, it wobbles like a tumbler toy. The all around smudges look like it's been used and returned. The finish of the plastic also look dull and cheap. We decided to stick with the Rectangle Spring Top. At least it is stable and looks a lot nicer. Hope we can return this second one with no problem. So at first I really struggled with getting the lid to lock in place. Turns out you have to kind of flex the edges of the lid out in order for it to snap on. I like that this one seems to be better than the other one I had in that the wire things that hold the bag in place are a little more securely seated in the holes. ... show more

I've had the brown model of this trash can for many years (15+). When one of the springs that open the lid finally fell off, I was happy to find this on Amazon (we originally wanted it in white, but couldn't find it at the time) and it was even on sale. Just opened and the lid sits loosely on top of the can. When pressing the latch to open the lids, the lid tilts forward. The latch won't disengage if you press in the middle; you must press on one side for it to open. I imagine that if I used it that the entire lid would come off every time I try to lift the trash bag and contents out of the can. Returning as it isn't useable. ... show more

Delivery was by USPS, they tried to deliver to a different address, guess they couldn’t figure it out , had to pick it up myself! But that’s a whole different issue not the reason for the 3 star, the product is not very heavy plastic it’s a little on the cheaper side for the price but will work for a office or a light arts and craft shop area, not recommended for a kitchen. The other issue was the lid opened just fine when it was off the container, but when I installed it on the container the latch was binding a bit on the lid therefore it would not open, I had to do a little filing on the lid at the latch area so it wouldn’t bind.
