S8 12/1/2024 Q5+ 7/12/23 S4 Max 8/18/21 This is a consolidated review of the Roborock S4 Max purchased August 18, 2021 (3-1/2 years ago), the Q5+ with Self-empty dock purchased July 12, 2023 (1-1/2 years ago) and the S8 purchased December 1, 2024 (3 months ago). I purchased the S4 during Covid, partially because I was noticing the dust around the house more since I was home all the time, and partially because I wanted to see if a robo-vacuum was a waste of money or not. I became a convert in the first week, as the S4 worked its way around the house, hoovering up light dust which immediately reduced dust motes floating in the air. It worked perfectly on hardwood and tile floors, acceptably on the stiff carpet pile in the bedrooms, but struggled with the plush carpet in the living room and heavy throw rugs. I put it on a schedule and other than spending 5 minutes every other day to dump the dust bin, it was perfect. I then started taking it downstairs, where it would spend an hour scooting around picking up the dust. Every couple of weeks I'd wipe it down and clean the sensors, and whenever it told me I'd replace the filter and brushes. I pulled out the regular vaccum cleaner once a month rather weekly. After a couple of months, what was noticeable was that my wife's and my allergies had decreased significantly. Also, instead of seeing a spider once or twice a week, it became a once every 3 months situation. Big win. While there were clear benefits, I figured that it probably wasn't going to be cost-effective - I expected the S4 Max to die pretty quickly since it was in use 3-5 days a week. A year went by and I knew that as soon as the S4 Max died I'd get a replacement. Another year went by with no signs of it giving up and I convinced myself that getting a new one for downstairs would be worthwhile - save my time carrying one upstairs and downstairs. Yes, laziness was a factor. I chose the Q5+ with self-emptying dock so I wouldn't need to deal with the dust bin. It now operates autonomously downstairs, vacuuming the entire downstairs 3 times a week, and I only need to replace the dust bag in the dock every other month. Three years after buying the S4 Max it seemed like the suction power was decreasing, and I was expecting it to fail at any time, so I researched the latest models and bought the S8 in December 2024. While I like the convenience of the self-emptying dock, in our upstairs (main living space) I like to get an idea of what is being vacuumed up. I was going to recycle the S4 Max, but then decided to keep it running along with the S8 for comparative purposes. I will say that, hands down, the S4 Max has been outstanding from a reliability and ease of use perspective. While they all essentially have the same form factor, the S4 Max manages to slip under furniture that defeats the Q5+ and the S8. The dustbin on the S4 Max also excels (I never thought I'd write a sentence like that). You pop it open, dump the dust and lint out, and you're done. The S8 dustbin has cross bars and braces that trap hair and lint, side ledges that hold onto dust, and a really efficient dust filter that needs to be brushed after each use since the dust cakes onto it. I'd guess that the S8 was specifically designed for use with a self-cleaning dock, but they made the decision to make a manual version as well. Implementation wasn't perfect. That said, the S8 has fantastic vacuuming power. For fun, I've had it vacuum the same room after the S4 Max, and it picks up a lot more that was missed. It is also significantly faster, covering the same rooms about 25% faster than the S4 Max. However, it is more "cautious" than the S4 Max and will not go under some furniture which the S4 Max handles well. I appreciate the Q5+ with self emptying dock. It just operates autonomously, keeping my downstairs dust (and spider) free. The only hiccup is that the side brush has started coming off every couple of weeks. Not quite sure what is going on, since I haven't had that issue with the S4 Max or the S8, but it is an additional maintenance step. The only thing that would make the Q5+ better would be a notification that the dust bag in the dock needs to be changed. Overall, the Roborock vacuums have exceeded my expectations for robo-vacuums. They have definitely improved quality of life by reducing dust in the house, and reduced the amount of time that needs to be spent dusting and vacuuming.

Roborock S8+ initial review is very good. While pricey, it is still less expensive than some of the more famous cleaning robots. The reviews, support, and customer satisfaction with Roborock are significantly higher than more expensive robot vacuums with fewer problem reviews, so I got this one. Thanks to everyone in previous reviews that recommended updating the software while it was getting the initial charge. That was very helpful, and gave time to review the features while it updated and charged. Mine updated the firmware/software 4 o 5 times before finishing. The updates completed in about 30 minutes, and I also downloaded the app. The previous vacuum was inexpensive and not very smart. It would rarely find the dock and constantly got stuck. With its lidar sensor, this ROBOROCK S8+ finds it's dock every time. I have asthma and a lot of allergies. The main reason for getting this vacuum was to have it run when I wasn't in the house and automatically dump without touching the dust bin. I can't take any of the dust that vacuums put into the air during use. We also have a lot of long pet hair from a constantly shedding German Shepherd. Sorry I don't have pictures of the very LONG dog hair that was constantly collecting on the floor in dog hair islands that would move around like big dust bunnies. Since using the ROBOROCK S8+, those are all gone. This robot is AMAZING for cleaning up all that dog hair and keeping the floor dust free. I haven't used very many features yet, such as no go zones. I just leave all the doors open in our single floor residence. I pushed the on button and it took off, mapping the house and cleaning. I have it set for vacuum only with balanced suction. It gives an amazing number of options for type of cleaning and setting up cleaning schedules. They recommend 3 regular vacuums before using the mop feature. The little manual packaged with the robot is minimal. There is a great online page that covers the features and use. The app is one of the most useful product apps I've ever seen. So many options for creating different schedules to vac, vac and mop, and more. It has a DND do not disturb feature so it won't run when you are sleeping. That time is adjustable based on when you sleep, or you can disable it if you don't care when the vacuum runs. you can start it manually by pushing the power button, or start it from the app on your phone, or it can run off of schedules you program. I'm just using a once per day cleaning for now. The biggest part of this is keeping the daily dirt, pet hair, and dust cleaned up while I'm out of the house. The volume isn't bad at all. It's much quieter than handheld vacuums, although it is VERY loud when it self dumps into the bag. It did put dust into the air when dumping, so I'm careful to stay out now until after it dumps. When it returns to the dock after cleaning, it dumps. It will also return to the dock if it gets full while cleaning, dump, and then resume cleaning. The bag is another great feature. It's a simple matter to switch out the full bag for an empty. I'm not sure how long it will take to fill the bag, but it's a huge convenience feature since I don't have to empty the dust bin on the robot after each use, or like the old robot during use. If the battery gets low during cleaning, it will go back and recharge, then continue cleaning until finished. In my case the battery charge still showed 77% on the app after a full cleaning of my house. The dogs are afraid of the robot while it's running, just like they are afraid of the handheld vacuums. They hide in a different room while it is cleaning. The ROBOROCK S8+ is very gentle, and did not disturb the dog water or food dishes on the floor. I kept the power cords out of the way from computers and things in use, but otherwise, it cleaned around shoes and furniture, going partially under the sofa and bed. The is a spot clean feature which gets it to clean a small area thoroughly. A real time map display shows on the phone app while Rosey is cleaning. (yes, we named it Rosey the Robot after the maid on the Jetsons cartoon series) The map can be used to set no go zones. It's an amazing map that shows everywhere Rosey cleaned or could not reach. The app also gives tips about cleaning the rollers and other features as needed. I've only have it for 5 days, so I will update this review as I use more features or have issues. I'm looking forward to setting up the water tank and mopping, since that will help even more with my allergies and asthma. I'm so happy with the hands free features that keep me away from dust, dirt and hair!

We've had this a couple months now and pretty much love it. It does a great job vaccuming and the app is really customizable and easy to use. We haven't yet had to emtpy the bin - we're probably only about half full and this vacuum has a lot of work to do cleaning up after two senior cats. The only downside is that you have to be pretty proactive with the mopping - ideally you need to only put the mop pad in while it's working. It looks good, is pretty quiet when vaccuming (except when it transitions from wood floor to carpet). It's a very good robot vacuum!

This product is leaps and bounds better than my previous smart vacuum. The technology has become a really long way in the past decade. I was hesitant to buy this as it’s so expensive but it’s really amazing and does a great job at cleaning up. I was hesitant, especially about the mopping feature, but to my surprise, it’s done a great job. The Robo rock line is kind of confusing, so be careful when choosing which one you want to purchase. This one, seemed to be the best value for the Features at the price when I purchased this.
