Works well but 3 points: First, you have to be pretty strong to crank it down tightly. Second, be sure to estimate length and cut off the excess BEFORE you start winding otherwise you can't wind it all the way down. And third, the catch to hold it in place is flimsy. It could corrode and break during the winter (hasn't for us but it might). Also don't forget this is a single-use item (just 1 season). ... show more

After buying 3 crappy $8 versions of this at various pool stores and having them fall apart between 1 day and 2 years later, I finally paid the money and got this one. It's heavier, stronger, and with a much better ratchet mechanism than the others. If you want a winch that lasts, get this one!
