    • Smooth, Good size for handwinding yarn
This is a nice size, quality smooth, sturdy nostepine for handwinding yarn. It should last a long time. Wind the yarn tail around a groove at the bottom, hold in place with non dominant hand. With dominant hand wind the length of yarn over the top end, back and forth, alternating sides 4 to 6 times. Turn the nostepine with the non dominant hand at the bottom a quarter turn then continue winding yarn over the top end. Repeat the process until the yarn is wound into a ball and slide it off the top of the nostepine. Now you can use yarn from the wound ball. ... show more

I had many self rolled balls of yarn but I knit on a loom and needed to use 2 strands. Using 2 different colors didn't always produce the result I wanted; so I was thrilled to learn there was a way to make a ball so that I could use from the center of the ball and the outside of the same color. This is a Best Buy for the price! Sure there are probably some nicer ones but I went by price and brand familiarity. I have would a few balls of yarn with it and as long as you watch a simple video or two it is entirely up to the person using it! I would definitely recommend it!

    • Easy to use once you get used to it
It’s fairly straight forward and easy to use this nostepinne once you get used to it. The first few yarn cakes I rolled came out okay, but it was still a little awkward. It gets easier with every use. There are instructions on how to use it, but it’s still hard to figure out exactly how to wind the yarn. There are good online videos to help with that. I already have a swift and ball winder, so the nostepinne is especially helpful for rewinding smaller amounts of yarn left over from projects. You can, of course, use it to make a center-pull ball or not. There are a number of YouTube videos that show how to do this. The smoothness and weight of this nostepinne are just fine. For my use, I might have chosen a shorter one, but this size still works well. I will probably never get another one, as this one will no doubt last many generations. ... show more

This is my second order. The first one arrived damaged and Amazon promptly sent me another. The nostepinne is easy to use and makes nice center pull balls of yarn. I was using a small diameter French rolling pin and while it worked, it was cumbersome due to the length of the pin. The nostepinne is shorter so it’s easier to wind the yarn.     • Handy yarn winding tool
For once, I can have center pull yarn ball made by me. This tool allowed me to stretch the yarn, wrap it around and around and come up with easy to handle balls of yarn that don't roll away when I pull yarn. I could wind yarns of all thickness on this device.
