Description

Ideal for vehicle windshields, the RAP-B-166-UN7U consists of a 3.3" diameter RAM Twist-Lock suction cup base, medium length double socket arm, and the popular spring-loaded RAM X-Grip phone holder. The RAM X-Grip features an 'X' design that expands and contracts to provide a perfect fit for your device – even if it's in a case. Made of high-strength composite and stainless steel, this version of the RAM X-Grip fits phones ranging from 1.87" to 3.25" in width and keeps your device completely functional and accessible. RAM ball and socket technology allows for near-infinite adjustability to achieve the ideal viewing angle – while also extending the life of your phone by providing shock and vibration damping. For outdoor applications, the RAM X-Grip includes a device tether that is recommended for added security and peace of mind. Using glass cleaner and a microfiber cloth, thoroughly clean the desired area you wish to install the mount. Push the suction cup base onto the surface and push against the glass while holding the twist lock to the OFF position. It is crucial you hold the base firmly and flush against the glass to ensure proper suction. While continuing to hold the suction base flush against the glass, use your thumb and index finger to twist the lock to the ON position. Tug on the base a little to make sure it is suctioned to the surface and not loose Attach any B size socket arm to the base and your desired device holder to complete your mount installation.

This is a very well designed windshield mount for your cell phone! You have a choice for your phone to be placed in the horizontal position or the vertical position. The Suction Cup and the Stability of this unit work great and stays in place exactly where you mount it after you tighten the knobs to secure it in place. I bought one about a year or two ago and got tired of switching it from one vehicle to my other vehicle so I just purchased my second one recently. Now, I have one in each vehicle! I tried other mounts for my work vehicle. I drive over rough roads and while I love the convenience of MagSafe mounts, they aren’t capable of holding a phone securely on a potholed and washboard road. This is the only one I felt comfortable with trusting. It’s secure, only occasionally loses its suction on the windshield and can be modified to meet my needs, e.g. I bought a longer arm to put it closer to my reach. My only gripe is for the price, it should be possible to mount and unmount with one hand. It’s awkward to use two hands and basically I have to fully reenter the cab and sit down to unmount my phone if I forget it. Not a deal breaker but a minor inconvenience. That’s all I have to say. No regrets but it could have a bit more convenience engineered into it for the price. Side note not related to the actual product: I did end up attaching a MagSafe puck to the mount so it will automatically charge my phone when it’s mounted. It also has the benefit of perfectly aligning the phone in the mount. ... show more

Needles to say, RAM makes some excellent device grippers! And this particular product of theirs follows in that very stellar lineage :-). Of noteworthy mention is that this (and for that matter any) mount's suction-cup base is able to better engage with that 'vice-like hold' onto the mounting surface ― the more 'ultra-smooth' said surface is. Simultaneously, such an ideal surface will possess enough mass/weight of its own to afford that 'stable plane' any mounting requires. And so, naturally/typically, such an optimum mounting surface is offered by a material like glass. That explains why this phone/portable-device mount works beautifully on the glass windshields of vehicles. On the other hand, we were finding it difficult to zero-in on this kind of a surface in a more home/indoors setting - which could, as well, be 'on-the-go' enough to allow for flexibility wrt where all, around the house, our phones could be perched up for use. Lo-and-behold, this ultra-smooth yet portable of a surface need was satisfied by a particular product that I found on https://amazon.com itself.
