I know what you're thinking, do you really need a smart hose timer. The answer is "no", but it a convenience thing and time saver. I have a pair of fruit trees in my backyard and during the hot days of summer either I forget to water them or I just don't want to go outside to water them. Using the Rachio hose timer and a drip hose gives me the flexibility to water when I remember and there is no need to water in the sun. There were so many times I would turn on my drip hose and just forget so this really saves me on my water bill. Some additional notes, this hose timer has limited scheduling functions currently. I'm a current Rachio user so I'm buying this hose timer was a good option for me to have a single point of control. Just to reiterate, the hose timer does not integrate with the current Rachio sprinkler system. I'm hopeful it will in the future. That would be the ultimate in smart control. ... show more

I bought this Rachio hose timer because I recently purchased a Rachio 3 controller to replace an Orbit B-Hyve that has been more problematic than I would like since I got it a little over a year ago. I figured since I was enjoying my experience with the irrigation system controller, I would try the hose timer to replace my B-Hyve hose timers so everything is in one app. It has been a good experience thus far and I would recommend it. It doesn’t have as many smart features (schedule type, plant data, etc.) since it’s still a fairly new product, but still works very well for my situation. I primarily use it for temporary watering of grass seedlings, as my property is too large for an in ground irrigation system. It performs perfectly for the purpose of setting up fixed schedules. I’m sure they will add more features in the future and I may find a use for them when they do. My main controller is for the drip irrigation in ornamental beds and a vegetable garden and the hose timer is for section by section renovation of the lawn area that needs attention via a sprinkler to keep the new grass seed and young seedlings happy until they are mature enough to be on their own. And I have it skipping for rain based on my personal weather station, which is fantastic. (Same as for the Rachio 3) Bottom line: If you have a need for a fixed schedule that you can also set up to skip due to rain, wind, or cold if wanted; then this timer is perfect for that. That said, if they go the way of the brand mentioned above and add more features similar to the Rachio 3 as far as using all the information for plant type, soil type, slope, and all that fun nerdy stuff to fine tune it, then this will be perfect for anyone watering anything via a hose. I will be purchasing two more to replace my other two timers as I’ve had enough time to test this one and make sure it was worth the swap. ... show more

I bought this because I am trying to grow a young sapling and water it ever other day. For that purpose, it has been working great! Initial set up and programming the schedule went easily enough. The app is ok, it can be a little clunky at times. The app was zero help after the wifi hub had been powered off for a bit while I was installing some smart switches and the timer would not reconnect. After messing with it for an hour, I reach out to support and they walked me through deleting and re-adding the timer. After that I had to reprogram the schedule. I would also like to see some crosstalk between their smart sprinklers and this. Mainly an option for if a certain sprinkler zone runs, that it skips the timer run, because where I have the hose set up is in one of my sprinkler zones. ... show more

The Rachio timer and hub is a solid product. As a B-Hyve user, the Rachio app is simpler and not convoluted. Three gripes though. Battery compartment requires a screwdriver to unscrew the screws. The wifi hub has to sit somewhere vs B-Hyve where it sits like a nightlight on the outlet. It gets kind of pricey when you have 5 timers vs B-Hyve's lower cost per unit. ... show more

Things I REALLY like: 1. More effective and CONSISTENT irrigation for areas that need to be watered with a hose sprinkler. 2. Lower water use – my schedule finishes very early in the morning allowing water to soak in – not evaporate. 3. The convenience and control of a timed ‘quick run’ via a ‘tap’ in the app. Some COMMENTS: • Out-of-box setup took me about 30 minutes – pairing, etc. The app guides you through setup. (Just don’t expect out-of-box ‘plug and play’.) • The small Wi-Fi hub was nothing to agonize over … I just found an out-of-the-way location - and the LED makes a handy night light. • Also I found that a little Teflon tape on my old spigot threads made for a water-tight seal. App UPDATES that would be ‘nice to have’ 1. A ‘Cycle and Soak’ option – as opposed to making two schedules. 2. We were not lucky to have an underground system so we have been buying the other timers that you program on the timer itself. Those were so frustrating to us in programming and in manual use. When I found the Rachio Smart Hose Timer, I thought this might be the next best thing. So I ordered one to try. Very Impressed! Really easy to set up and I placed the hub in the house next to the window. The valve itself is 150 feet away without any issues. I must say what a pleasure it is to set up and turn on anytime you want. The phone app is easy to set up with multiple watering times. Currently watering a newly seeded grass area in which I have 8 sprinklers set up. Because of low water pressure, I can only use 2 sprinklers at any given time. Within minutes I have this set up with the time to water and the length to water within minutes. When 1 bank shuts off the next one automatically comes on. If you are buying these gang timers that you must manually program you will throw those away and only use the Rachio. ... show more
