I have a mohawk that I like to dye crazy colors. I came across Punky Colors after I ran out of Manic Panic Electric Banana and Tiger Lily. So, seeing the positive reviews on Punky Colors here on Amazon, I gave Punky Colors a try and bought Flame (orange) and Bright Yellow (well, yellow). First, this stuff smells quite nice, kind of a fruity-bubble gum scent. It is just the right amount, but those sensitive to scents may not like it. Second, it has a wonderful creamy consistency akin to Manic Panic. It is easy to spread, no chunkiness or pastiness. Third, the color result was amazing! I bleached my hair to a Level 9, and when I applied Flame, I got a nice bright pumpkin orange that faded to a nice bright orange. Bright Yellow on bleached hair results in a bright banana yellow that fades to a bright blonde. Fourth, this stuff LASTS. Most Manic Panic dye jobs last about two weeks tops before I have to reapply the dye; this is with cold-water washes and using sulfate-free shampoos. I got three weeks with Flame and two weeks with Bright Yellow. Fifth, it's less expensive than Manic Panic (before shipping), but doesn't feel cheap at all! ~ Cons? First, if you want to change colors, good freaking luck. Unlike Manic Panic, Punky Colors are a PAIN to bleach out. I wanted to change from orange to bright pink; after took two full bleachings and two toner applications, my hair was still dark yellow! Bright Yellow wasn't so bad, but it was still stubborn to remove. Second, this stuff is highly pigmented and will stain anything it touches, especially porcelain surfaces. It's worse than Manic Panic, but not nearly as bad as Splat! Colors. Luckily, rubbing alcohol will get the stains off. Third, there aren't as many colors of Punky Colors as there are of Manic Panic. Seriously, Punky Colors, no silver or pastels? ~ So, all in all, this stuff is great! I definitely recommend it if you want a bright, long lasting color and don't plan on changing said color for awhile.

my hair has officially been every color except for yellow! i tried orange because it was a brand new color for me and i decided to give it a shot. this was several months ago & i've switched colors again since then, but now that i've experienced this particular dyes longevity i figured i'd go ahead and give it a review. the first two photos were taken within a week of dyeing it. the last photo was taken just before roughly two months, and i began washing my hair with dish soap to fade it so i could switch colors again (i'm impatient and change colors a lot, despite how much i loved this one). the color faded beautifully from a neon, reddish-orange to a softer, but still quite vibrant pure orange. my preferred hair color is green so i switched back to green recently but honestly, if i ever wanted to go orange again i'd use this same dye. i got many compliments on the shade even after it was faded, including from my hairdresser when i went for a trim. if you're looking for something vibrant or neon, this is a good dye. it doesn't bleed or stain too much (less than manic panic but more than iroiro, if we were to rate them on a scale) and the dye smells HEAVENLY, like an actual orange fruit. i also bought this brands yellow dye but haven't used it yet & it smells exactly like a lemon. i will definitely buy more from this brand, especially if they have any neon/lime green colors. i've already recommended this color to a friend who also wanted orange hair.

This is the best brand of crazy-colored hair dye I have ever used! I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to dye their hair fun colors! This really does best when used over pre-lightened (bleached) hair. If you have naturally light hair it will probably work but it will not be as vibrant or last as long as it would if it were layered over bleached hair. This dye is completely non-toxic, vegan, and it smells so good (fruity, a bit like grape juice). The dye is actually very moisturizing and great for damaged hair! It will leave your hair feeling soft and shiny. I always apply a generous amount to my hair, and then cover my hair with plastic wrap and an old towel. This is important because it seals in moisture, preventing the dye from drying out and become ineffective, and it holds in warmth. Heath will help the dye take to the hair shaft better. I leave the dye on for as long as possible (4+ hours) and frequently during this period I will use a hair dryer to heat up my hair that is still wrapped in plastic. After the dye had sat on my pre-lightened hair for several hours I rinse it well in the shower with cold water until the water runs clear. This can take a little while. I then apply a small amount of conditioner to the ends of my hair and rinse it out. I towel dry my hair and then I try to shampoo and apply heat to my hair as little as possible. Following these steps I always get vibrant and long lasting color. Keep in mind that certain colors naturally last longer than others. For example red tones will tend to fade a lot faster than blue or green. In my experience Jerome Russell Punky Colors dye always fade to a pleasant color so it's no big deal if you have to go a while in between dye jobs.

Love the bright orange color. Washes mostly out of my beard. Leaves some ginger tinge which works well enough. But will be gone soon. So I’d say a bit less thank semi-permanent. Has a koolade smell when hair gets wet for a couple days after hehe. Oh yeahhh. Not bad just fruity.

I've tried Manic Panic, and while I like the color quality of it, I have to vote in favor of "Punky Colour" My hair color is naturally just about black, and originally I decided I wanted to go blonde. I got down to about a light auburn (NOT brassy orange. so, not all of the blue tones were gone) and my hair felt a bit dry so I decided to cut my loses and use a semi and go red. I'd imagine with "Flame", if you were orange already, or blonde, it would be very orange. But on my hair, which like I said, was a light auburn (I called it gingerbread for awhile), "Flame" gave just the color I wanted. It wasn't fishing lure orange, and it wasn't firetruck red. It was a nice rich reddish orange, with natural lowlights. I'm sure no one thought it was natural, seeing how i have black eyebrows, but I did receive quite a few compliments on the color. (and none of them implied I looked like an anime character.) The vote in favor I give to Punky Colour over Manic Panic, is simply due to the fact when I had Manic Panic, (which also looked nice) the color faded a LOT quicker, we're talking the more vibrant hues being gone within about a week and a half and I only wash my hair every other day or so. I used Punky Colour a number of weeks ago, and the color still looks pretty good. It's lost maybe a bit, but not a ton. I've compared pictures and I didn't see much change. (I was figuring on having to retouch after 2 weeks, and thankfully I really did not have to.) I would still recommend a gentle or color protecting shampoo and conditioner, but it is nice that both Punky Colour and Manic Panic do a good job conditioning in and of themselves. It also doesn't hurt Punky Colour is a few bucks cheaper than Manic Panic, in most cases. .

I've used Punky Colour dyes (many colors!) for at least a decade, and they've outperformed all the other brands. I've had zero issues with bleeding, and the colors last a long time. My only complaint is the fragrance. It smells lovely, but it is very strong. Thankfully, it doesn't last long, but it might give you a headache if you're sensitive to strong scents.

The color is super vibrant! I love how soft it left my hair and how little it smelled. However, unfortunately I bought this to do the calico hair trend and the orange bleeds like crazy 😭 Even just running my fingers through my hair turns my fingers orange (and I’ve washed it thoroughly several times). I will have to buy a different brand so the orange doesn’t bleed into the blonde. But if you’re wanting to do an all orange look, and don’t mind cheeto fingers, this dye is great!

I have thick, very course, dry, extra curly, salt and pepper (brunette in my youth) hair that is super resistant to both permanent and semi- perm color. I've tried several semi colors. Some that did not take at all and a few that did take a bit, but then washed out quickly. My hair just doesn't want to absorb color. I did not have high hopes but since the price is reasonable, I decided to try Punky knowing if it didn't take, I wouldn't be out much $. My first color choice was Flame orange and the results were well beyond my expectations! I left the color on longer than directed attempting good penetration and boy did I get it! The color was INTENSE and stayed so for the first 3 washings. After that it began to slowly fade. After 7 washings the color is about a third of the intensity and is fading beautifully. I've gotten TONS of compliments on the color when it was fresh and as it fades. Flame is a great color match for brunettes! Immediately after coloring I did notice my hair was very dry. Cream rinse conditioner was effective improving dryness but also removes a lot of the dye. Instead I switched to using Monoi oil after shampooing, on either wet and dry hair, and it brought back my shine and softness instantly. I am so delighted with Punky Color and their relatively huge color selection. I've already ordered 3 more colors and will attempt an ombre effect soon. This is the first product that actually allows me to have fun playing with various hair colors and I couldn't be happier with the results. If I could give it 6 stars I would.
