The heater does work and is nice in theory or if you don’t have hot water. What would be great is if you can keep it in the water to keep it hot. The cord needs to be a lot longer since plugging it in near a place like the tub is what makes it work. It could be better designed but I’m not an expert or electrician.

I was pleasantly surprised at how sturdy this stock tank heater is. While I have tested it, it won’t be pressed into service till next winter. First of all, it came securely packaged and there was no damage to the unit. I really like the different safety features. It comes with an automatic shutoff so if I forget, the fire hazard is greatly reduced. It also prevents overheating and dry burn issues. The heating elements are protected by a heavy duty stainless steel shield which keeps me and my animals safe, but also keeps the element itself safe from accidental damage. I like that the temperature can be set within a range. It is great to heat up bath water for our livestock guardian dog after he tangles with skunks in the middle of winter. However, I would heat up the water and then remove the element for safety concerns. Every tank heater I’ve had really only heated the water up just above freezing, so this is a great feature. Make sure heater is fully immersed, but if it pulls out of the water enough, a buzzer will sound and it will turn itself off. Controller couldn’t be easier. There is off/on and up and down on the temperature. There was a good disclaimer in the instructions that I found helpful. It was kinda obvious, but I hadn’t thought about it. The water heats up hotter the closer to the element. Good to know as the heater’s default is 175F. This stock tank heater will certainly make my life next winter easier. It is well priced, highly functional, and a great timesaver.
