  • Quality protection
Poolhacker makes some other products I've acquired over the past few years, and when I saw this 3-in-1 pool closing kit as the season was coming to an end, I thought I'd give it a try. For the convenience of not having to drain and disassemble my above ground pool, this offers a great value for the money if you consider the time you save. The quality of Poolhacker's products leaves me confident this will keep my pool in good condition through the winter months, and since it's so easy to use, there's really no downside. ... show more

  • Bigger than I thought
This thing's bigger than I thought it would be. In previous Winters I've gotten these little pods that slow release chemicals over the course of the winter and they're much smaller than this thing. I'm not quite sure what's in it I did put it in my pool, obviously very easy to use you just pop a thing out and drop it in the water. I can't really speak to how well it's going to keep the water clear because cover is still on the pool. I feel like it's nice and big and it's going to release a lot of chemicals, if I open the pool and it is gross I will definitely update this review. ... show more

  • Easy to use
We opened our pool this year so we're new to everything pool related. We just closed our pool for the first time. This chemical pool ball was easy to use. We just had to pull a plug and put it hole faced down in the pool. Then we added the pool pillow and the cover. Hopefully when we open next year the pool will be nice and clean. ... show more

  • Good size ball
Closing a pool is bittersweet. You’ll miss the long lazy days of summer, but you won’t miss the constant pool maintenance. This is my winter vacation from pool maintenance. My pool closing and opening tips: 1. Do NOT close your pool until the temps are consistently below 65 degrees Fahrenheit. Algae cannot grow when your pool is that cold. This will keep the water clear all winter. 2. Make sure to open your pool when temps are consistently between 55-65 degrees. That will be right before the water is the right temp for algae to grow. You’ll be able to stop it before it starts. It took me a couple years of pool maintenance before I figured that out. I was closing it too early and opening too late. After I opened the pool, I’d spend weeks trying to get the water under control and getting of algae. Once I figured out that formula, pool opening has been easy. That said, this pod will hopefully make it easier. Keeping the PH in balance will mean less work getting it back in balance when it comes time to open. I think if the algae is gone, and the pool is clear when I close, it might not need much work on keeping the water clear, but it’s good to have it. This is a decent size ball. It's about 6 inches in diameter and 5" tall. It's a good value for the money when you compare it to other closing pods. Unfortunately, I will not know if it's a good quality product until it's time to open again. It looks like the materials are good quality. Just not sure of the actual product yet. Functionality wise, it's pretty simple. Just let it float in the pool. I can say set up looks simple, so I do not expect to run across issues when I open. I will update if that changes. ... show more

  • Easy to use, but won't know how it works until spring.
Pool closing time is getting closer, and I thought I would try this PoolHacker PureHalo closing kit. I have not closed my pool yet, and I will not know how well this works until we make it through winter and open the pool back up in the spring. So, my review reflects that, and I will try to remember to update in the spring. This is not an all in one chemical closing kit. You will need to super chlorinated using your own shock as there is none in this kit. So. If you are used to standard closing kits with everything inlcuded, this is not one of them. To use, you of course need to vacuum then shock the pool, after 24 hours of shocking you remove a plug from the PureHalo pod and place it in the water. Simple enough. The pod is quite large in size, but the amount of chemicals inside doesn't look to be a large amount so I am unsure how this will treat up to 30,000 gallons of water over winter, but time will tell. There is also no info on what chemicals are I inside the pod. All it states is that the inner core clarifies the water, and rhe outer ring stabilizes PH. I am really not sure what would stabilize PH. Obviously, I will make sure my PH is in correct range before closing, but I am still clueless as to what the PH stabilizer is. Aside from that, nothing is noted about having algecide in it, so that may be something else you will want to add at closing, in addition to the shock and PureHalo product. I am giving it 3 stars because I feel that information needs to be included with this product. For example, instructions on what else needs added, such as algecide. And it would be nice to know exactly what the PH stabilizer is. ... show more

  • Exactly as described.
Waiting for the cold weather to come in so we can close the pool. This product looks very efficient. Thank you.

  • Too soon to tell, will update.
There is very very limited information about WHAT kind of chemicals are in this other than "non-toxic" and "efficient formula" but box instructs to avoid contact with skin and eyes and rinse thoroughly with water in case of accidental contact. The brief directions for use state "the outer ring stabilizes the pH". I'm not aware of any product that simply stabilizes PH without having an effect on other levels such as Alkalinity and those products are added in a measured amount dictated by exactly how much of an alkalinity change you need to make in the first place. I have concerns that this product may raise other levels and potentially "lock" the ph in an unwanted range. I suppose the saving grace may be time for dissipation or dilution since this is meant to be placed throughout the winter season. Again, most chemical levels will fluctuate besides having too much cyanuric acid (CYA) that never dissipates and takes actual water change to lower. All this is to say I'm skeptical of the product but it's too soon to say; I will update in the spring of 2026 when we open the pool again. This product is super easy to use and the directions for use are clear and easy to understand. ... show more
