This product works really well. This year has been horrible dealing with algae, adding chlorine and scrubbing constantly. I added this product to the filter basket, clean the filters real good, and I could tell the difference 2 days later, crystal clear water. I have had the product for close to a month now and I still have crystal clear water and no signs of algae, I haven't even had to shock the pool for a month, the water truly looks pristine clean. The box claims it can last up to six months, I'll be happy if it gets me through the summer. I do not think the price is high, $80 bucks and for the last 4 weeks I did not have to spend time and effort scrubbing walls and adding chlorine to keep the algae away, assuming this lasts at least 2 more months, that is about $26 a month, totally worth it.

UPDATE AFTER JUST OVER A MONTH: This is worth every single penny spent! Two days after I put this in my pool was completely algea free and has remained so. We have had very high temps and humidity (in the 100's) for the last month and my water has been clearer than when I filled it up when it was brand new. I did notice my pump was acting wonky after 5 days so I had to backwash which I was afraid would mess up the progress but it was fine (you're not supposed to backwash for 2 weeks after dropping it in). I did move it to the pump basket after that and no more issues. I have backwashed once since then. I put in one arm and hammer tablet and one chlorine tablet (clorox Xtra blue) once a week and my levels are always perfect. I haven't shocked my pool at all since adding this ball, the amount of money I'm saving on chemicals has made this ball very cost effective! I did notice this morning my pool isn't as clear as it has been and it's time for me to change out the ball. Probably didn't last as long because I backwashed after the first 5 days but I'm not complaining. I'll switch it out and enjoy another 5 weeks or so of a virtually maintenance free pool. Do not hesitate to order this! I didn't take a before picture but I swear this thing is a miracle worker! We put up a 17'x48" summerwaves pool last year and everything was great for 3 weeks. Then the yellow algea appeared. I triple shocked, vacuumed, brushed, over and over and over for weeks but the algea would never fully go away. The water would just be cloudy all the time. I kept my water balanced and just couldn't get it clear no matter what I tried. I finally drained it halfway and refilled, that helped for the last few months of summer but still, it never got really clear again. So this year I emptied the pool, gave it a good scrub and then started over. I had done my research and figured I knew what I did wrong. Things were great this season, opening the pool in May and for two months my water was perfect. Then we had the typical extreme heat and high humidity come in for a week, bam, yellow algea. I was frustrated. I gave it a good scrub and vacuum, and a quadruple shock. Two days later and zero difference. I saw this little thing, even though pricey, based on reviews I had to try it. It came in yesterday and I brushed the walls and floor, backwashed my sand filter and dropped this suckered in the bottom of the skimmer (I have a skimmer/pump that came with the pool and is not turned on, it's connected to the sand filter so putting it in the bottom of the skimmer is the same as putting it in the pump basket for reference). That was at 5pm yesterday. My pool had tons of yellow algea everywhere and the vacuum would only stir it up so I was hoping for a miracle. At 9am this morning I came outside and the pool is almost completely free of the yellow algea! I have a few small spots by the steps that I will see if the vaccum can get and if not I'll just brush it into the water to let the pump filter it out. This is so worth the money! I don't know how high my chlorine is because we have a tropical storm today and I really can't get out to mess with the pool but as of now, if it's too high and won't budge I am perfectly fine with draining some of the water to get rid of that, at least I know for sure algea won't be my problem in the future! If anything changes I will definitely update this review.

I have only had it in the pool about three days however it’s doing its job nicely. We have been having so much back to back rain causing my pool to stay full of algae I could not keep it clean. Someone suggested I give this go. I don’t regret it whatsoever. I’m highly impressed and very happy with my order. The algae control is perfect. Crystal clear water. It is however a little large for the skimmer basket. I do plan on purchasing one of the ones that sits in the pool for it to sit it. If you’re dealing with algae issues, I would 100% recommend.

Works better than expected! Waaay better!! I have pool in Florida - no cage. Got a very bad algae growth this year, the worst in 20 years of maintaining my pool, no amount of shock or standard algicide made a dent in it, I was going backwards. Got a tip from pool guy to try a PoolRX blue grenade. I had never heard it. Thank God! In less than 3 days - following all 8 steps - my pool cleared. Water quality the best I have ever had. Seriously, my clarity is equal to a caged pool, and that is tough to do. God Bless Pool RX!

I used PoolRX to help recover my pool after being out of town for three weeks. Worked beautifully and I've saved a ton of money on chemicals this summer. However, whatever minerals this product releases caused my chlorine level to spike off the charts. I have also noticed some staining on my plaster due to the over chlorination and other minerals. I removed the unit from my skimmer several weeks ago and my pool is still very clear and algae free. While I recommend this product and will continue to use it, beware that you do need to closely monitor your chemicals.

This thing was advertised as a way to add less chemicals to your pool. Of course I found this after I stocked up on months worth of pool shock. You throw it in your pump basket or your skimmer basket and let it do it's thing killing algae for up to 6 months. Recommended to clean your filter first as you aren't supposed to clean in after installing for about 2 weeks. Needless to say I'm sitting on a pile of stocked up shock still since I haven't really needed a lick of it. I was so impressed I told my neighbor. He was so impressed he told his children and his friends. So far it seems to last longer in salt water pools but that's only my experience, you may get completely different results. I test my own water and balance everything myself, and I'm still on my first one. I bought a second for when the first does wear out but 8 months later its still going pretty strong keeping the water crystal clear.
