  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Very Reliable (0 failures out of nearly 500 units)
Capacity: 240GB Style: Sata 2.5 Pattern: SSD
I own a computer repair shop and I've sold many brands of SSDs over the years. I install these in basic home and office PCs and have yet to have a single failure. I have almost 500 of these out in the field. Now I wouldn't recommend this drive if you're going to write a lot of data to it on a regular basis (like if you plan to use it as a scratch disk during video editing, or install it in a RAID array on a NAS server or something) as its write endurance is quite low but if your needs are basic this drive is an excellent choice. Real life performance (not the stupid disk benchmarks people always post) is going to be lower than something like a Samsung EVO or PRO but again, if your needs are basic you shouldn't see much difference. The main performance difference is between this drive and a higher end drive is going to be the write cache. Basically, if you're writing a lot of data, this drive is going to slow down to a crawl before a higher end SSD would. The higher end SSD will slow down too, it will just stay faster for longer during large file transfers. That being said, you shouldn't be using this drive if you need to do large amounts of writes to it on a regular basis, so this shouldn't matter. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Cheapest and easiest upgrade you can do for that older PC.
Capacity: 480GB Style: Sata 2.5 Pattern: SSD
Example: I own an HP EliteBook 2760p with a 2nd Gen i7 processor with Windows 10 installed. From hitting the power button to *actually being usable* the laptop would take almost 4 minutes. Running programs would be slow as well. Once running the laptop would be fine just slow to respond. Enter the PNY 480GB SSD drive. I installed it easily. It was literally just 5 case screws and 4 drive tray screws then a drive swap. I put it all back together and then used the Windows 10 install tool via USB to format the drive and install Windows. Once all the updates available from Microsoft were completely installed and all device drivers were set I shut the laptop down. So here we go... From hitting the power button to *actually being usable* the laptop now takes 35 seconds. Programs are snappy and responsive. Considering the cost of these drives these days and how easy it is to swap them out - AND how fast they are - this is the first upgrade you should do to ANY older PC you have that has a primary drive that is still a physical disk drive. I've installed this drive in 2x 2760p, a 3rd Gen i5 HP 6570b and an HP All In One 2nd Gen i3. They all now run smoothly and quickly with a new lease on life! Does it make them gaming PCs? No. But it does make older hardware usable and able to keep up with current OS and software demands. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Works well -- particularly as an OS drive.
Capacity: 250GB Style: Sata 2.5 Pattern: SSD
These models aren't the absolute fastest of the fast, but they get by pretty well all the same. I chose not to rate it "for gaming" because that's actually more meaningless than it seems (games rarely have terribly heavy write operations, and read speeds on any SSD that isn't just positively terrible will be just fine for even heavy gaming.) As I got the 250GB model, it wouldn't be great for gaming if nothing else because it's just so small. However, it's perfect for dedicating to the OS. As this puts it entirely on a separate drive and bus from actual gaming drives it means that operations on one won't block on another. The OS still benefits a little from being on a SSD as well too and can start up faster and run a bit more smoothly. At the price you can get these, it's a positively excellent bang for the buck and a great way to get your OS on a dedicated drive without breaking the bank. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Gaming and Longterm Use
Capacity: 1TB Style: Sata 2.5 Pattern: SSD
PNY SSDs are American-made high-performing drives. The cost is consitantly less than I see for more prominent brands like Western Digital, Kingsun, or Samsung. And Seagate.. well they sold SSDs to China AFTER the US trade ban... **Upgrade Old Computers: If your old computer uses platter disc harddrives, forget buying more ram. Moving your OS to SSD will improve speeds for boot time, loading files, programs, etc. Also upgrading to a quality SSD like this is often an easier fix than finding additional RAM for older computers. Updated for 2TB and 4TB: The PNY 4TB SSD is a great longterm solution for any pc or laptop. The 2TB drive is ideal for use as an external drive for the Xbox 360, because the console is incompatable with any HDD/SSD with capacity greater than 2Tb. My Xbox360 slim console also will not read more than 2 external drives at once; possibly on account of having 2 internal drives already. With two 2Tb external drives, the Xbox360 max storage capacity comes to 4Tb external + internal (320GB for mine). Other consoles may see similar external storage limitations, but newer consoles also have massive install sizes, like 30-80Gb. Xbox360 installs vary from 2-3Gb up to around 20Gb install space required. Thus, between two SSDs (totalling 2Tb+1Tb=3Tb), I have been able to install 491 games from discs. Why do this? Longevity: the game data on old discs which are prone to scratching will deteriorate faster than data installed on SSDs. **ALSO**Gaming emulators for older consoles (and some portables) are capable in part due to comparatively small file sizes. My 1Tb PNY SSD holds 174 games; but a terabyte, let alone 3 or 4 terabytes is totally unfeasible for an 'emulator'. The solution was to buy up old games from Gamestop when the price dropped (to like $5/game) upon release of the next console systems. This way, classic games are not completely lost to time; although some may be already. The disc for puzzle game 'Fez' is now virtually impossible to find. After install, the game disc is only required to recognize and boot each game - producing less wear on the disc and smoother gameplay. Thanks PNY for preserving the legendary Xbox 360! ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Good deal for 2TB SSD
Capacity: 2TB Style: Sata 2.5 Pattern: SSD
I was a bit skeptical to buy this but I've the reviews and it convinced me. I was expecting this to be delivered in the following week but got it today instead. I am not a amazon prime member but it got deliver like I was one. I live outside of the USA and the delivery time was great. I have also tested the product and it is legit. 2TB of storage with SATA III speeds and the price it just sits in is very great for value, highly recommended for game storage. Only issue is that the box is tattered, but hey as long as it works and looks fine, I wouldn't mind a deformed box. Will buy again if budget permits it ... show more
