  • Fixes All The Issues/Headaches From the Original Model
Color: Gray Size: 1 unit (Pack of 1)
I have five cats, so we go through a lot of litter. I am always looking for new ways to streamline my routine. So one of those ways was getting the original scoop free litter boxes. In order to extend the life of my litter, I got the reusable pans, and physically scooped their "leavings" out of the compartment twice a day. I also lined the litter boxes with baking soda for extra odor control and use a combination of Arm and Hammer litter box deodorizers and fresh step crystals to fight the feces smell for those little tiny bits that the grate sometimes leaves behind that are impossible to scoop out. My biggest complaint was that even though I had six original scoop free litter boxes for five cats (expensive, I know), that the "poop containers" would fill up so quickly and stink up the house, even when I was emptying them consistently once or twice a day. Also, the grate itself would get filthy, and there was no way to remove it to properly clean it. The box was also very low to the ground and didn't have much depth, so the litter scatter was everywhere all the time and forced me to have to change it more often because all the litter was soiled with urine, and because the depth was so thin, it made it super noticeable to both me and my cats that it was time to change the litter. It seems that Petsafe was basically reading my mind with this new model they put out for the clumping litter box. I still opted to use crystals for it because I prefer them over clay which leaves dust all over the house, but I love the option to use clay if I want to. This new box is larger than the previous box, and deeper. The sides are a bit taller, so I would recommend a step of some kind for smaller kittens to get into, but because its taller, I do notice far less scatter than I had with the previous model. Instead of scooping the poop to the other end of the litter box, it actually scoops it into a drawer to make it more accessible to dump more often without having to open the entire box to get to it. The "poop storage" drawer is actually much bigger, so it can actually go longer without dumping, but I still choose to dump it daily. And finally my favorite part, the grates COME OUT! Those filthy grates that were the bane of my existence in the previous model finally come out, and guess what, they are dishwasher safe! I recommend cleaning your dishwasher with dishwasher cleaner after you try this hack, but every couple of days, I take all the grates, put them in the dishwasher, set it and forget it for about an hour. Then just reinstall them, and press the button to grab all the leavings that your cats did while they were in the cycle. They are clean, sanitized, and no longer need to be scrubbed maliciously with a scrub brush. My life could not be more streamlined and happy with this new model. My ONLY grievance with this is the pan and the drawer are not considered dishwasher safe (I asked Petsafe), and that they did away with the LED counter they had on the previous model so I can keep track of which litter boxes they are using the most easily. Hope they add these features into future models. I have sent the company my feedback on it. But honestly, I just take the pans and the drawers to the shower, spray them down with Lysol and shower them off with hot water. Takes about five minutes, and most of that time is just drying them off and preparing the litter back in the pan. In all honestly I find these litter boxes way easier to clean and maintain. I am extremely happy with them. My cats also seem to enjoy having a deeper litter box to do their business in. I am extremely happy with my purchase. I originally purchased two to replace the two kitchen ones just to test, but ended up buying four more to replace the others after just a couple of days of using the new ones. Yes, pricey expense, but the investment was totally worth it to me. The time saving element alone was worth it. I am single, live alone, work full time, and have five cats. Anything I can do to get a little extra time back is a blessing. Also, with these new boxes, I have been able to extend the life of my litter significantly. I have gone to changing the litter once every two weeks instead of once a week, which saves a tremendous amount of money for me personally on my cat budget. I went from spending over $800/mo on crystal litter to spending about $200. Keep in mind I am an absolute clean freak, so as soon as I walk by the box and catch a whiff, I am changing the box that day. Some people get nose blind but I am super sensitive to it and literally cannot wait once I smell start to smell it. Anyone who is a clean freak like me, I highly recommend this box to streamline your routine. I feel like each box will be good for up to two cats. But I have always used the rule of one box for each cat plus one. I also still have two standard boxes on top of that just to give them options, but they generally don't use them as much as they use the scoop free ones. I also used Klarna through their app if that helps anyone else budget wise. Anyway, hope you liked my review. ... show more

  • If you cat is a corner pee-er, DO NOT buy this item
Color: Gray Size: 1 unit (Pack of 1)
If you own a cat, you know they are bratty, demanding, intolerable overlords whose very particular tastes must be met 100%... or else they plot your demise... usually in the form of defecating where they are not supposed to. And yet, here we are, with four of them. One of our feline overlords finds the litter robots distasteful and will not use them (we have the 3 and 4). To try to please his lordship, we purchased a popur 5 as well (since it is a lot like regular boxes), but his lordship refused to use that one either... Apparently, consistently clean litter boxes in circular and squared shapes aren't at his level.... so we bought a fourth self-cleaning box: This one, the petsafe self cleaning box, to see if that would please him. He was deeply offended. As soon as we installed that one, his lordship was so crossed by our lame attempt to meet his demands that he started pooping on the floor. But it gets better, because one of the other overlords LOVES this box, so much so, that he has stopped using the other ones to use this one. So, aside from the offended overlord pooping on the floor, what (you may ask) is the darn problem with this litter box? Well... Let me list it out for you: 1. ALL FOUR of our feline overlords are corner pee-ers. ALL OF THEM!! That isn't an issue for most boxes, but this particular littler box isn't one full piece. The litter receptacle is a separate piece from the frame you see from the outside (which controls the self-cleaning arm). You have to place the motorized frame over the litter box receptacle, which sits right below the motorized frame, forming a tight connection (though not a seal). The problem is that if your cat is a corner pee-er, that pee may fall right on that connection between the frame and litter receptacle, causing pee to sip through the narrow, none-sealed gap between the two and spread all over the floor. If the overlords like to pee on the corner where the waste box also sits, then that pee will also sip into the waste box. You can see the real-life result of this situation in the included picture, where the royal pee lake on the floor is VERY noticeable. If your feline overlord likes to corner-pee as much as ours do, I do NOT recommend you use this box. 2. There is no good space to put a plastic bag in the waste box so, you either have to not use a bag (not an option if you don't want to have to constantly clean the waste box), or, put one on but the result isn't going to be a handsome one (as you can see in the front of the picture where the waste box is located). 3. The scooping arm kind of sucks. Actually, it sucks a lot. It seems to be great at scooping dirty litter when it is returning from the scooping cycle, leaving clumped litter BEHIND the arm, where it accumulates and never again makes it to the front to be scooped into the waste box (you can see that in the picture too, the back left corner). 4. When the arm scoops into the waste box, it also scoops in clean litter, so the waste box fills up faster and a lot of it is just wasted litter. To solve for this, basically, don't go above the first litter line marked in the litter box. I mean it. I placed the litter right in between the two lines (as recommended by pet safe) and it continuously scooped clean litter into the scooping box. Of course, not putting more litter in means you'll have to put clean litter into the box basically all the time, it might exacerbate the issue I named on point 3, above, and it means you'll be in this cycle of putting in clean litter that ends scooped into the waste box. 5. The motor is loud, so if you keep the box in a family space, you'll have to hear that all the time... and clean up all the pee that gets on your floors. Given all the issues, I honestly can't find any redeeming qualities, except for the fact that 3 of the 4 feline overlords took to using it right away.... Though, as mentioned before, the 4th overlord was very offended by its presence. So, we are retuning this one. I guess the all self-cleaning life isn't for us since the one overlord disapproves. We'll keep working on our diplomacy skills to get him to compromise, but, in the meantime, petsafe needs to get their act together and better the quality of this product, especially considering how RIDICULOUSLY expensive it is, compared to how bad it performs (like the litter robot's price is outrageous... but you def get quality self-cleaning results). If I could, I'd give it a rating of 0. ... show more

  • Functions reliably, but not suitable for cats with soft stools or diarrhea
Color: Gray Size: 1 unit (Pack of 1)
Functions reliably, but not suitable for cats with soft stools or diarrhea. In this case hairless Sphinx cats (2). The soft stools mess up the rake, the tray and the waste drawer which then need to be cleaned and also ends up consuming much more of the expensive crystal litter than dry stools. I suggest if your cat is ill, go back to a standard litter box with a liner until they are well again. The unit is very noisy as it is crushing some of the crystals on every cycle. When changing out the litter, the bottom of tray is coated with a layer of crushed / powdered litter. I'd rank this as not suitable for all cats, but OK for single healthy cat with solid stools. ... show more
