I've only had the box for about a week but I do have 8 cats and regular litter boxes set up still. They seem to prefer using this box though. I didn't want a covered box and I didn't want to pay $300+ on a litter robot so I wanted to give this one a try. You definitely can't over fill it, that will cause problems. You have to top off the litter occasionally. I've emptied it twice in the last week and with 8 cats that's pretty great. The trash bags are a little too big for the catcher so that's a little annoying but I can also probably use any time of small bag I want to like grocery bags. I'm using the hard ball clumping litter which I really like. The litter doesn't leave a bunch of small pieces behind. So I think the type of litter you use really matters. So far so good. I'm sure eventually the motor will stop working but who knows how long that'll be.

This was great for the first month. I took it apart to clean the box well, put it back together like I did the first time per the instructions. Now the scoop/rake thing sits higher than the litter so it does not scoop much and mushes the potty. The scoop is in the right place, it fully functions, if I put more litter in it, it will be above the line but that still doesn't resolve the bottom of the pan. I would really like it to graze the bottom of the pan so everything gets scooped. Such a bummer.

Do yourself a favor and buy this now. I spent a lot of time researching the automatic boxes. I wanted one that I could use any type (brand) of (clumping) litter with, was budget friendly, did not require extra monthly parts (trays, filters). I thought Iโd end up buying something over Black Friday that was โbetterโ but after I tried a high end on v this one I kept the Petzone smart scoop. I have 3 cats, one that is huge and I do still have a second box but they rarely use it. Since I have 3 cats I do change the bag day to day and a half - Iโve never let it get full so I could probably go two days easily. I use store band litter and once Iโve had to clean the rake bc of squishy BM stuck but it was only a tiny amount. No smell issues, easy assemble, easy clean to no clean, great for multiple cat households and large cats. Itโs the same size as a normal litter box I use a 26x18 mat for the cats to step on when getting out. Itโs not fancy but itโs safe - sensor knows if cat jumps in or is in it, works great - I only wish I bought it sooner. Note be mindful you wonโt put a ton of litter in it if you notice the motor sounds like itโs really working to move through litter you have too much.

This self-cleaning car litter tray was acceptable but not great. We are older, handicapped folks with 2 cats. Some time ago we got an enclosed automatic litter box that works wonderfully well. The smaller cat loves it, but the larger cat would not use it. We can't keep up with the standard litter box so we ordered this one. Bobby is using this box, and it works marginally well. It does take most of the clumps into the covered tray, but we're have to rake some in manually. The litter material gets caught behind the rake, so we have to watch it and redistribute it manually every day or two so the rake will work properly. There is litter scattered around the outside the box that we need to clean up daily. But we are keeping the box because it is tons better than a regular cat box, Bobby will use it, and it's kind of ok.

Expensive for lasting only 1 year. The second raised tooth (on the base) that causes the sifter to raise broke, this causes the machine to fail most of the time, but, when it does work it catches on the seam between the bottom and the raising guard and then launches the litter into the air and some on the floor. Before breaking it did an ok job, though it never really gets to the bottom of the pan, the sifter spacing is kind of large, it misuse a bit on the ends, and if it's a large load will occasionally dump clumps on the floor.

Objectively, it is not a good design. The rake does not scrape the bottom so clumps get stuck and you're forced to scoop it daily. The rake does a bad job at picking up clumps, instead it breaks them up smaller and then just falls through the rake. The rake pushes the waste to the end of the box but doesn't do a great job at picking it up because there is an inch or 2 gap between the rake and wall. This means the waste just falls off the rake. From my tests it gets about 30% of the waste and you still need to scoop at least once daily. In my opinion you should save your time and look for a product with a better design. This is not worth the hassle of cleaning, packing back up and returning. Unfortunately, I had to do that for this product because it's a $175 litter box that you still are required to scoop. I tested the new version (black) with the updated design and still can attest that this product is poorly designed for automatic waste scooping. Also, the measurements are inaccurate. It is larger than the dimensions specify so if you're looking to put it inside a cabinet add at least 1 inch to the width. But again, I suggest not buying it.

Easy to use, bag is a bit of a hassle until you get used to it. Best part is how quiet the motor is! You can barely hear it running. The gears being on the exterior is also a plus as litter can't get kicked into them.
