The media could not be loaded. The plexiglass is really nice and different from other hutches on the market. We don’t completely hate having it in our living room. Bunny seems to enjoy his home base. He’s so cute going up and down the stairs and into his little house. We’ve already gotten a few compliments on it and it’s only been a few days. We like that it’s unfinished wood, 2 story, easy cleaning, and has wheels. The drawbacks? Not the easiest thing to put together. The wood isn’t solid but it is actually pretty sturdy when we put it together so I’m not angry! *I have noticed most people put bedding on the bottom. We will not be using it this way. We got him a litter box and have begun litter box training. We plan on eventually free-roaming him. I probably would not have bought this if I had an animal who could not be litter box trained though.

Amazing habitat for my bearded dragon baby. She loves it. I wasn't sure if it was going to hold the heat, but temps have been Amazing. Her basking spot is 105°! Just perfect. Very easy to assemble. You only have to put the sides together! Very sturdy. Quality is fantastic and better than I imagined. Thick wood and durable. Easy to clean! I'm really impressed. It did have a "new paint " smell when I got it that was very strong. So I set it outside for a day and that was perfect. No more smell.

So, first off: the chemical smell opening the box was horrendous.... However, after airing outside for a few hours, it's completely gone and smells of cedar. Looks: it's actually beautiful, the dog loves seeing the bunny through the fully windowed front (which are like plexiglass panels) and it will definitely keep the cat out of it... however- Reality: For the price it is fully 100% UNfinished wood. While it is nice, anything that pees anywhere will end up soaking into the wood, which you will have issues with. We have a dwarf rabbit, and this is literally a mansion but we will have to finish it fast so it doesn't get ruined. It's super light and goes together in minutes. The lock and the arm for the top (to hold the top open), super cheap, along with hinges, but if you aren't trying to be Superman and rip it open, it will be fine for a while. So if you plan to buy one, plan to spend a little more to waterproof the wood as well!

The media could not be loaded. This cage is just alright. None of the holes were drilled on mine. Make sure you have a drill handy, I didn’t and had to hand screw everything in. The wood is pretty cheap and the smell very strong. The bottom that holds the tray gaps. For the price of this cage I expected better. There is also no place to hang a water bottle. Update after a week of owning this thing. I have a tiny guinea pig in it. And it leaks urine all over my floor. This thing is also a pain in the rear to clean if you use any bedding on the bottom because the tray doesn’t pull out easy. Returning it at this point is nearly impossible as it would need disabled and the wood is pee soaked! But I did reach out to the seller for a refund as this cage is unusable. I will update my review at this point based on the sellers response. Update 2: seller responded with a $48 refund or to return the item. Not sure how they would like me to box this large cage and taking apart a pee soaked cage that also took me a hour is a viable option. They asked for more “proof” that their cage leaks. So I have attached the video to this review of the item leaking. $48 for $160 unusable cage is a insult. They basically want me to eat over $100 for their faulty product. After sending the company proof that the item leaks they are still refusing to offer a full refund and offered a $70 refund for a unusable item.

I sincerely apologize for the length of this review but if you own or are getting a hedgehog or another smaller critter or animal and are considering this cage please do read !!! I put alot of research into how I could make this hutch safe for my hedgehogs (I bought 2 hutches as I have 2 young boys) that cannot cohabitate together without fights to the death over dominance - which is something I learned after the fact) but that just goes to show all the people asking if it’s safe for hedgehogs and others saying it’s fine for a chinchilla, why wouldn’t a hedgehog be good in it? RESEARCH PEOPLE! Don’t be stupid like me and decide to get 2 hedgehog baby boys and a day later ordered 1 of these hutches cause it was cute, not a wire cage, matched the home decor, and was thinking they’d have sooo much space, it would be like a mansion for them. Also the breeder was so misinformed, she said as long as they’re the same gender, they’ll get along fine in one cage unless you want to breed them. I showed her the hutch and she said it looked great 🙄 Then after watching a few YouTubers on hedgie environments and reading hedgehog forums how this is absolutely NOTHING like the preferred setups of experienced hedgehog and Guinea pig owners, did I realize I’m an idiot and immediately ordered a second hutch just to match the one I had already assembled since I could no longer return it, and just decided to modify it. While my baby boys are chillin in basic bin cages with fleece blankets, snuggle sacks, wheels, litter pans, and a few toys they don’t seem interested in until the hutch is complete to my satisfaction. So to start off… The wood is cheap and splintery, I wouldn’t ever want my hedgies walking around on it without padding. A chinchilla or rabbit would chew right through it and rot the wood with their pee. Also nowhere near enough room for a Guinea pig let alone a rabbit, as I’ve owned rabbits and they can get pretty large and need to hop and move around. So whatever animal you are thinking of getting or already have, do your research on the amount of room they are supposed to have, popular cages for that animal, essentials, and non-essentials. What’s toxic, proper weight, how to groom, etc. I did NONE of this and later on realized I got them from a bad breeder that really didn’t know what she was doing. But I haven’t had a small pet in a long time and always wanted a hedgje so I finally got one, stupidly doing no proper research, and learned later on that this hutch was not the ticket. I am making SEVERAL modifications to this thing to make it a perfect hedgie hutch for my 2 boys. 1) Chloroplast everything from the 2 wooden levels, to the walls. Wood CANNOT be fully sanitized and will lead to infections, mites, as well as fungal issues. 2) Don’t even bother with the hideout that came with the hutch as hedgies prefer fleece snuggle sacks. I used the roof portion to make a wall for the upper level as hedgehogs are almost fully blind and if they fall off that ledge, it would be an awfully long fall for the little hedgie and could cause major injury if not extreme aggression and not wanting to bond with you. Also chloroplasting that roof converted into a wall section. Luckily the height of the roof converted into a wall reaches perfectly to allow the hutches mesh opening to close, and reaches all the way to the ramp area. 3) GET A RAMP WITH WALLS. I found a seller on Etsy who makes walled ramps to prevent falls. Soo, I tightened in my receiver hooks on the top level as far as possible to close the gap which when installed per instructions with the ramp in the kit left about a 1” gap where a hedgie could get their paws stuck, not to mention getting their paws stuck in the metal hook areas. I’ll be putting a lining of chloroplast down over any gaps as well as some fleece padding. 4) I’m installing a short ramp of some sort from the bottom shelf onto the pull out drawer. As hedgehogs love burrowing and I’m afraid of mine getting its head caught under there or damaging his eyes. 5) BEDDING. I personally cannot stand shavings. Firstly, I’m allergic to wood shavings, second they cause mites, and so I tried purple recycled paper shreds. I loved all the color selection and that it was pretty much fully hypoallergenic, which it wasn’t fully but definitely a step down in the degree of my allergies from the wood shavings but was a mess. Got everywhere, stuck to my hedgehogs belly’s, feet, quills, they trailed it around, I couldn’t stand it. I have had them in bin cages with folded fleece blankets until my hutches are fully setup to perfection… but the one thing I could not find anywhere was padded, absorbent, fleece bedding to fit my hutch. The dimensions are so unlike what experienced hedgehog owners would use, and those dimensions of fleece bedding is so easy to find. Well it took me a minute but I finally found a kind woman on Etsy who is custom making me the bedding in the sizes I require with a wonderful assortment of patterns. The hardest area probably being the pull out bottom drawer as it is soo shallow in depth. After measuring and remeasiring every area, taking tons of photos and closeups with a measuring tape, she was finally able to come up with the most beautiful patterns. I just got them for the two wooden shelves and pull out drawer, possible ordering another for the ramp. Can’t wait to get them! 6) Hedgies require heating. I have a dome and CHE bulb that has a metal stretch to hook it onto the mesh top of the cage. So if you open the cage from its only original opening which is the top mesh roof, the hooks hold the lamp in place and it won’t go flying (which will bring me to my next point) 7) I am further customizing the hutch by removing the screws that hold the front plexiglass together as I want to be able to easily access my hedgehog and clean the cage out without bending over into the cage to get to those hard to reach areas. It’s very easy to clean if you have the entire front portion open up rather than opening up the top mesh level and reaching all the way down to the bottom level. But I’m also making small individual doors in each area of the plexiglass for easy access to grab my hedgie if they’re on one particular level of the hutch. I’m also considering taking one section of plexiglass out and adding mesh or cage like material for some extra ventilation cause I’m not sure how hot it’s gonna get in there with my current heat setup which is working fine for the bins but idk about this hutch. I have to test it out first for safety before adding the hedgies who are patiently waiting for their dream homes in their bin cages. I obviously don’t want to start a fire. But you’re adding a hot bulb over a box of wood with lots of fabric in it. I do have a thermometer and thermostat temperature controller but still, I’m not risking their safety or causing a fire. Perhaps adding a little ventilation area on the wall will help. As most hedgie owners have completely wire cages such as Midwest or critter nation. 8) There is no place for the wheel unless it’s on the pull out drawer under the top shelf where it’s hard to see it in action unless you add lights to your hutch which is yay or nay in the hedgehog community depending on who you talk to. I’ve considered strip lights, a string of fairy lights on certain areas of the cage… But getting back to making a front door opening instead of the top, in addition to little front openings on each area of the plexiglass… if the only real area to put the proper size hedgie or Syrian hamster wheel, which is 11.5”-12”, is under the top level, and that’s with the wheel on its lowest level… It would be a real bitch to clean if you have to open up the top and reach all the way down to grab it. Much easier to just open up the front and take the litter pan and wheel out and clean up and soiled droppings that didn’t make it into the litter pan under the wheel. 9) Last point but yet again getting back to a front door opening… say you wanted to take the wheels off the hutches, you can’t exactly stack them ontop of each other as their only ventilation is through the mesh roof… but I had considered the possibility of maybe taking off the wheels and putting them side by side ontop of a table (especially cause one of mine came with a splash of white paint on the outer gray portion of wood)… you wouldn’t be able to either clean the cage or get to your hedgie if you’re only opening is that top mesh roof unless you enjoy using a step stool just to feed, replenish water, hold your hedgehog, spot clean, or deep clean. IM SORRY that was such a long list but it’s really some serious things to consider if you are a first time hedgie owner like me where there’s tons of safety concerns, or if you own an animal that chews like a rabbit or chinchilla that could chew through the cage or soak urine into the wood till it’s rotten, or if you own dwarf rabbits or Guinea pigs or even fully sized rabbits. This is not the cage for you unless you want to put time, research, money, effort, help from others to modify it to your particular pets needs. I know that was a lot to read. Good on you if you made it this far. But if you’ve read this all, that’s about 5% of all the research I’ve put into learning about what’s best for my animal after getting the hedgje and a day later ordering this hutch. Don’t be like me and think it’s cute and just buy it and hope it all works out.
