I'm betting you're reading this review because you are looking all over the place to find a thumb drive with decent capacity and enough speed to get the job done. So many of them make big claims, and disappoint. I've done it myself - bought a "fast" thumb drive that claimed to read and write hundreds of mb a second, and by the time you encrypt the thing and load it up with data, somehow it only transfers at about 15-30mb. If you complain, people tend to ask what's wrong with your computer hardware... you know the drill... I'm not a lover of slow thumb drives. You've come to the right place. This one is solid - and decently fast. When the only thing you can think about to dislike is that the little hole in the top for a keychain attachment is a tad too tight, it's a winner... Like all thumb drives, it will slow a bit in prolonged use as it heats - but this comes with the turf. Like the 128Gb Rage before it, the thing works, and it works better than the average bear. For a quick file or two, it's a joy. People don't buy this size of thumb drive for a few quick files... so... For the heavy user, out of the starting gate, it runs about 300-340mb writing encrypted largish files, and goes a reasonably long time (many Gb's) before it warms and eventually slows to 100-150 doing long knock down drag out transfers. The warm speed is on a par with real world cool running speeds I've seen from other name brands. Impressive. The dreaded slowdown with repeated writes and erasures, at least so far, also not a problem. If there's anything out there better for the price and intended use - I have not found it. Recommended - especially if you value your time, your data, and your money.

For a 500GB flash drive that isn't extremely expensive, this thing is fast. It reads fast, and surprisingly it writes fast too. I was able to transfer just over 50GB of data to the drive at over 600MB/s. Yes, after you transfer a lot of data to the drive it does slow down, but so does every flash style media that doesn't use SLC flash. Even the fastest NVMe consumer SSDs have the same behavior. And some of consumer SSDs will actually get slower than this flash drive does! It works perfectly with my smart TV as well. However, the drive comes formatted with the exFAT file system. This works best for use with computers, but some other types of devices do not support this file system. You have to reformat the drive to a file system that the TV will recognize before it will work. In my case I had to format the drive using the FAT32 file system before my TV would recognize the drive. But in the end, this is a normal Flash Drive and once you configure it correctly it will work with every smart TV in the world that reads flash drives.

this brand and type (Patriot Supersonic Rage), never had any problems the Parriot brand, not like PNY 32 which some computers I use won't recognize at all

I am a beat maker and bought this to save the beats I make on my MPC Live hardware. So far it works very well. Faster download time than I'm used to. Pretty sturdy... not a flimsy little stick. Happy with this purchase.

If you have a newer computer with USB 3.2, boy this bad boy is fast. I've always liked and trust in Patriot USB. Easy to use and comes in handy from transfering files from one comp to another. UPDATE: Drop this to a one star simply due to the usb unable to maintain speed after 2 sec of transferring. I've only used this a few times and in the duration of that time, this usb already exhibit problems. I'm guessing it is probably due to some defects or heat throttle but this was disappointing. I've sent in a replacement and hopefully it will fare better than this one. Love Patriots usb, however, I cannot give it more than 1 star when it'd fail to do what it is meant to and given the advertised speed, it is unacceptable.
