I had read the reviews about how sturdy and well made this shade was and I was still pleasantly surprised. It is a solid, quality product. I can't believe what a great value this is. It works very well. It is not waterproof. The directions are really not good, as the other reviewers have indicated, that is my only serious criticism. That is why I included photos of the critical parts. A few things about assembly. Do not cut the bands holding the arms, it tells you not to, and don't do it. The most helpful thing I did during instillation was to suspend the assembled unit from above with a rope, so I could easily control attaching the brackets. This will save you a LOT of trouble. FWIW, I attached the brackets to the brick with 5/16" tapcon screws.. When attaching the supprts, there is very little margin for error . Play real close attention to Right/Left, UP/Down. My pics should help you figure that out, when you have trouble with the directions. When you insert the fabric into the slots on both rollers, it really helps to use some silicone lubricant in the groove. Speaking of silicone, I waterproofed it with silicone spray and it worked great. Overall I strongly recommend this product, hope my suggestions help.

I am a retired product designer with 30 years experience in fabricating wood, metal and plastic products. This is the second time I've purchased this product. The first awing I received came fully assembled. This time I found it completely redesigned into a two piece unit requiring assembly, with some of the original metal parts replaced by plastic parts and paper thin metal washers. The original wall brackets made it easy to adjust the proper pitch whereas the newer cheaper brackets make it difficult to say the least. Most disappointing, in this latest configuration, is the manual. It's full of typos and tiny drawings so small that the distinction between part tops, bottoms and which end to put where is incomprehensible. Well written instructions save hours of assembly work and what should have taken 2 to 3 hours ended up taking a day. I am also deeply disappointed in the fact that the awing fabric in not replaceable. I emailed Outsunny who answered that they do not offer ANY replacement parts. The metal awing mechanism is mostly well designed to last a good 10 to 15 years whereas the fabric, in full sunshine will fall apart in 12 to 18 months. This is the kind of throw away mentality that threatens our planet, i.e., that's a lot of heavy metal to have to have to dump. It wouldn't take much to give this product a good review - Outsunny needs to rewrite their manual and offer replacement awing fabrics, a seemingly easy thing to do.

This retractable awning is a good value for the price. It was easier to assemble than many had mentioned and fairly easy for two people to install. I only keep it rolled out about six feet to cover my "back porch." It has been installed since spring and has weathered the spring and summer thunderstorms well. I have rolled it in when the weather got real bad, but it holds up pretty well. It has faded from its dark brown color (I would have preferred tan, but it was not available when I ordered) and water tends to pool in one spot that sags a bit (which could be due to my assembly/installation/six-foot only extension). Overall, I am well pleased with the value of this awning. In addition, it shades my sunroom from a lot of excess summer sun.
