I just finished assembling and installing my newly purchased Outsunny 10x8 Exterior Manual Awning Sun Rain Shade Cover – Beige. As mentioned in other reviews, the directions are less than stellar but they aren’t worthless. Consulting them helps determine the orientation of the pieces. I think it would be difficult to assemble it wrong if you follow the directions. Very important not to cut the plastic straps on the extension arms until the unit is completely installed and locked in place. I installed my awning on my deck on wood siding. I ignored instructions regarding the bracket locations. If you are installing on a wood wall, you MUST locate the brackets on studs or a header. Otherwise things could end badly. Fortunately, the brackets can be mounted anywhere within a couple of feet from the end of the awning. I installed mine 18 inches from the ends. I used the included lag bolts. A metric ratchet set will make installation and final adjustments much easier. I did not have to re-drill any holes as mentioned in other reviews. Everything lined up pretty well. A rubber hammer is also helpful. One more thing…I set up an 8 foot table on the deck for assembly. Beats working off the deck. Called the wife out to lift it onto the brackets (2 step ladders required). We dropped the bolts into place to secure it and then I spent about a ½ hour fiddling with the adjustments to get it level and at the right angle. The price is incredible. I was very close to plunking down $600 at Home Depot when I saw this on Amazon Very happy with the result. Good luck!

I just installed this 116" shade. As everyone said - the directions are bad but it is hard to beat the price. The components need orientation, both left/right and have to be rotated to the correct position before they are assembled. The pictures are so bad you can't tell the orientation from the pictures. Once installed, the angle of the shade can be adjusted. Also - some of the holes did not line up so then needed to be opened up with a drill. When I put it up, there was nearly 2 feet of drop between the front and the anchor point on the wall. After adjusting the jack screws, the front to back drop is about 10 inches. Overall, I am satisfied. If I have any trouble with the mechanism, I will update my review.

As many others have stated...once you figure out how to put it together and it's installed, it's pretty decent. But getting to that point is a major pain in the butt. The individual pieces seem to be manufactured fairly well. Sturdy all-in-all. But, they're ability to fit together with one another as they should, is another matter. Tabs A & Slots B invariably do not line up like they're supposed to. Required a bit of re-drilling holes so they'd be in the correct position to lock in with one another. Also, as others have noted, the Chinese-to-English translated manual is a complete joke. I would think that it shouldn't be THAT difficult to find someone, somewhere that can improve upon instructions such as: "...stop when the thread leakage 1 - 2 laps", or "...the blow picture is mean the distance for bracket holes is", or my personal favorite, "...then cut the strings which raping the arms". The biggest problem we had was adjusting the tension of the torsion arms properly, once the thing was mounted up on the wall. The manual effectively says (para-phrasing here) to "adjust the tension arms properly"...with little to no guidance on just HOW to do that. It took 2 of us a couple of hours of playing around with it until we finally figured it out. It is now up & working, but I already see 2 pieces trying to pull apart from one another. Looks like I'll have to do a partial disassembly in order to re-re-drill a mounting hole so it locks in to place like it should. For the price, it's a decent product, but be prepared to spend some time to make it right.

The instructions suck. Now that it’s out of the way, I will say that I was pleasantly surprised by the quality. It does not come with wood mounting hardware. I had to improvise with some t nuts and carriage bolts. I installed it on the side of my gazebo and had to make some adjustments so that it would clear the roofline. I will stain the additional pieces of wood I had to use to match. You will definitely need help assembling the fabric and pulling it through the pipe. It’s sturdy fabric so it will withstand the tension. Adjusting the pitch is relatively easy once you figure the tightening sequence. Overall, I am happy with this purchase and will probably buy a matching canopy for the other side of the gazebo.
