I'd never used an air fryer before but had been looking out for one. I chose this Oster model because I have a blender of the same brand and love it. Because I have sparse kitchen counter space, I didn't want a large appliance, but at the same time I wanted to be able to cook enough food for a family of four. Tall order. Of course, my first venture was to make french fries! They came out pretty well and I learned a thing or two that will help me out for future air fryer cooking. So far, I've also tried fried chicken legs (which turned out awful - but I did a few things wrong) and bacon, which was wonderful. Here's what I like about this model so far: It's a decent size both for cooking and compact for storage. It's simple to use as well as attractive. There are preset buttons for fries, wings, whole chicken, fish, meat, vegetables, baking and dehydrating. It's digital and manually setting temperature and time is easy, too. The basket is nonstick. Washing the basket and tray is a breeze. A recommended "deep clean" involves assembling a quick paste of baking soda, vinegar and lemon/lime juice, and running the fryer for a half-hour. I'm super excited about all of the dishes I'll now be able to make with just a smidgeon of oil and this device. I avoid deep fried foods because they're unhealthful but, like most people, enjoy the crispy taste. ... show more

Full disclosure, The Oster 4 Quart Digital Air Fryer is my first experience with air fryer. Here goes, its compact and holds a lot for its size. Made french fries, they were tasty and easy. Grill cheese? So much easier than using the pan. Four minutes, flip, four minutes. Done, perfect. Has a chime that goes off halfway through a timed session that reminds you to flip/shake the stuff in the basket. This is a great feature. Clean up really was easy and I was worried about the grill cheese. It's got a window that you can look in so you can see how things are coming along. Window is removable for easy cleaning. Auto shut off when you take out the basket. For fixing a meal for one or two people, this is a wonderful tool. If I was rebuying it, I'd get a bigger one as it's time consuming to do multiple batches--fries need to be in a single layer, one sandwich at a time, etc. Still great though. ... show more

I recently picked up the Oster 4 Quart Digital Air Fryer, and it’s been a great upgrade. It’s smaller in size physically compared to my old air fryer but still has the same sized basket, which is perfect for cooking meals for a few people. One of the best features is the variety of pre-settings, including a handy reheat option. It makes cooking a lot easier since you don’t have to guess the time and temperature. Just choose the setting, and it takes care of the rest. The air fryer is easy to use, but be sure to follow the instructions for cleaning and using the cooking oil coating it recommends. Overall, it’s been a solid choice after six years with my old one I felt it was time to try something else. Also the fact there is a window that allows you to see in that is removable and easy to clean along with a light inside the air fryer to see how cooking is going. The Oster air fryer is a medium sized air fryer that is good for daily use. The overall size is not as bulky as others, making it more convenient and less awkward to manage. The air fryer is not huge inside but it is still good for small amounts and quick needs. The air fryer has ten preset buttons with a timed temperature control option. The basket has a separate metal grate that lines the bottom of the basket, that can be removed if not needed. The unit is simple to use and is very easy to clean in the sink. The basket is nonstick metal and the food and grease just run out whenever you get finished. I have never had to scrub or scrape anything off. Other than initially being disappointed at the size, we like everything about this Oster air fryer. After using a family sized 5.5 L air fryer by Insignia for 6 years, I found many times I would use two at the same time if I had them. I had to research to convert, but found that my current 5.5L is a 5.8 quart size. Seeing that the Oster basket can hold a whole chicken in the advertised photos and reading the size is 4 quarts, I thought this would be kind of close to the size we already have. After ordering, I realized the same advertised photos were used for both the 4 and 6 quart fryers. And I found most whole chicken air fryer recipes recommend at least a 5 quart fryer. The Oster 4 quart is much smaller than our 5.8 quart - You can see the difference in my photo. There are many things to like about this Oster air fryer though. The biggest bonus for us is the light and viewing window. Such a smart design over what we’re used to. Normally we have to remove the basket several times to check on what’s cooking. With this Oster, just hit the lightbulb emblem and the interior can be clearly seen. It also cooks quieter than our Insignia – we didn’t realize how loud our older model is. We don’t frequently use the preset functions, but instead use the +/- temp and time. It cleans as easily as we expected. When researching comparables here on Amazon, I did find many other lesser popular brands with viewing windows and light, and a high number of favorable reviews that are a larger capacity for less cost. So I feel the higher cost for this smaller air fryer is mainly due to being Oster brand. So if you’re not one to favor major brands you could save money with other models and get a larger fryer. ... show more
