  • Life Saver
I wish I had bought one of these a long time ago. I get dizzy when I bend and just hate scooping a litter box in general, so previously I was using an automatic litter box where a rake scoops the used litter into a covered tray. Although it worked, it was expensive buying the crystal litter and it was heavy and gross to throw away the disposable trays that came with it. Having to bend to pick it up just made the matter worse. This litter box was on sale and I figured I'd give it a try. I placed it on a folding table so it was easily reachable and there would be plenty of space to roll it to sift the litter. It has been working PERFECTLY. I use Slide brand litter so nothing sticks to the sides (just jabbing a clump of litter that does stick with a scooper makes it release effortlessly). I roll the box once a day in the cat room and pull out the tray, dump it in the garbage can next to the table, and the litter is clean. The room doesn't smell like a litter box for the first time in ages. I also don't get my hands dirty at all, which is super important to me. The pull out tray collects all the clumps and I just toss it in the covered trash can. The ONLY negative aspect I'd mention is that it's small. Really large cats might have an issue with using it, as well as picky cats who don't like covered boxes. I think they do make larger models though so I won't knock a star for that. I just figured I'd leave a review because I'm really happy with this and it has made a really annoying chore effortless. A decently long table, non-stick clumping litter, and a garbage can or litter genie next to it and you have a perfect litter system. ... show more

  • Works with eco-friendly litter, use less litter
Works great with the more eco-friendly ökocat clumping litter (blue stripe). I had my doubts it would work, seeing as most "sifting" boxes seemed to be designed to be used with the finest and most dust producing clay cat litters. I haven't used clay litter in four or five years now and I'll never use it again, between the ecological impact and the health problems it can cause for cats - no clay litter for our 6 cats. The ökocat clumping is a bit chunkier than clay so I thought I might have problems getting it to work in a sifting box like this. Nope. It works great. All you to do is give the box a little bit of a wiggle-shake as you roll it over to help it through the sifting edge, and I end up (gently) rolling it all the way back over to the opposite flat edge, while doing the same wiggle-shake, to get all of the sifted litter back out. It really sounds more difficult than it is. Clean litter box in about 15 seconds. I'm happy, cats are happy, clean box. The one deducted star is for the clips that hold the top on. They don't hold very well during the lifting and rolling process. I have not had the top come off, because there are 3 clips, but at least one of them comes half undone everytime. Seems like a clip down may not be the best attachment method for a box that gets rolled over...mayhaps. BIG TIP---DO NOT OVERFILL. This box works absolute best with just a small amount of litter in the box. There are guidelines, that are quite hard to see, in the box but an inch MAYBE an inch and a half of litter is just about perfect. Overfilling WILL cause problems - from making it much harder to roll over, harder to get all the litter sifted, harder to keep the top attached....issues you don't want to clean up. Go light on the litter. You'll be glad you did. ... show more

  • Changed my life
So.. this litter box is awesome. Rather, it fits my needs perfectly. I've got one cat. Fairly fluffy and large. I **HATE** cleaning litter boxes. When I first got him, I wanted to get an electronic self-cleaning box, but my gf at the time committed to doing it. I shoulda kept her around—because when she left, I was forced to do it. Not fun. Instead of cleaning the litter everyday, I started just buying cheap litter and emptying the whole thing once a week (or so—sometimes (read: often) it was once every two weeks). It worked, but I was in a large house so I couldn't smell anything. The litterbox was also on the other side of the house, so I didn't even have to see it. Fast forward to my new, much smaller house, and the way I did it before became a problem. The litterbox is now in the small downstairs bathroom. The door automatically closes almost all the way. The cat can get in, but unfortunately, the smells don't get out. I propped the door open, but the smell now pervaded my house like some sort of haze that hit you when you walked in to my place. I hated it. I looked at the litterbox system that had the pee-pee pads underneath, with reusable litter on top. I looked at the automatic litter boxes. I looked at metal boxes. I looked at covered boxes, DIY boxes with a powered exhaust vent, and I looked at disposable boxes. My goal was to eliminate the smell and make the entire process hassle free. This WORKS. I am truthfully in love with it. This box, combined with a litter genie, and some better litter, has legit changed my life. I no longer dread emptying the litter. It's almost joyful now. I'm using Arm & Hammer slide clumping litter, for those interested. The receptacle on this box is a perfect fit for the opening on the litter genie. It's wonderful. There are markings on the interior of the box that tell you how full it should be. I've read reviews about it leaking. Mine doesn't but I was prepared to buy some weather stripping to put on it where the top meets the bottom, to overcome it. Some people say it's large, but I was struck by how compact it is. The litter area is small, but my large cat doesn't have a problem with it. I've no idea how durable it is long term, but for right now? It's sheer bliss. ... show more

  • The rock and clean concept is great but this model is too small
I have been using a rock and clean litter box for several years and love it! It is simple and easier than scooping from a traditional litter box. My old one was wearing out, so I went online and got a replacement. I did not, however, pay enough attention to the details of this particular model. It is SMALL, much smaller than my previous model, and there are definitely disadvantages with the size. The smaller size does not give the cats as much room to do their business. Even with cleaning it out every night, I consistently have poop stuck on the bottom. I have tried filling the litter a little deeper, but the opening of the box is kind of low and my cats kick the litter out of the opening onto the floor. So my choice is to scrape poop from the interior of the box or clean up litter outside of the box - every day. My old, bigger little box did not have this problem. The interior was bigger and the sides were taller. The other issue I have is that is that if your cat poops in the back of the box, it does not end up in the scooper that is pulled out because the scooper does not extend the full length of the box. Unfortunately for me, my cat always poops in the back and therefore, I have to scoop that out of the main box or tilt the box to get that poop moved towards the front of the box. So, instead of just rolling and throwing away the poop in the scoop, I am now scraping poop out of the interior, through the small opening of this little rolling litter box. I have been using the box for over a month and am fairly disappointed. I had such a great experience with my other box, that I tried to make adjustments to like this one as well. But I truthfully just wish that I would have looked closer at the dimensions and purchased a larger one. If you had very limited space and absolutely needed the smaller box, this may be the right purchase for you. Otherwise, I would recommend getting a bigger model. ... show more

  • A piece of junk
This box is a waste of time and money. I gave it a single star because it showed up on time. When I put it together according to the instructions, I discovered that it was not designed to do what it claims it will do. I should have packed it up then and sent it back. But I proceeded. I waited until the cats trusted it enough to use it. I followed the instructions on how to move the litter to the collection side and then rolled it back flat to the floor. I opened an empty drawer. The clumpy litter was still in the chamber designed for the cats. I tried more vigorously a second time. The drawer was full of clean litter. The clumpy litter was still in the cat side of the box. And I had a pile of clean litter on the floor that had leaked from the seam where the box top joins with the bottom. The thing is cheaply made with pliable plastic, which is why the thing leaked when I turned it to its side. That should have been another clue. I emptied the litter box entirely and put the old $25 litter box back in its place. I don’t need to spend twice the money for a litter box that gives me twice the work. Now I don’t feel I can return it, since it’s been used. This is what’s known as a life lesson, one that you don’t have to learn from experience. Don’t buy this piece of junk. ... show more

  • Easy litter box
Have had since Nov 25’ and me and my cat like it! Shes a black bengal and fits so perfectly, might be too small for larger cats, easy to clean and set up, takes not even 2 minutes to empty the litter box. Cage stays in fine, haven’t had any issues whatsoever. Knock on wood ;)

  • At Best, You'll Still Scoop.
Summary- Poor QC combined with improper use caused many negative reviews here, but the real issue is that it doesn't 100% eliminate the need to hand-sift litter, possibly because it's a little small. And if you have to scoop at all, you might as well scoop the whole thing. Try a different product. 3 stars, minus 1 for lazy quality control. First things first, this product does not require any serious modification, with one fairly large caveat* This product is clearly mass-produced, which is fine, but the quality control is lax. If yours doesn't fit together right, either give it the extra push (or quick shave with a scissors blade, box cutter, et cetera) it needs to fit together, or return it. For something that doesn't see good quality control, from a design standpoint everything should fit like a glove. When I assembled mine, I immediately noticed that the folding screen did not pop into its groove flush on both sides because it was not cleanly cut. Even without shaving, all it took was a little extra pressure and focus on the offending side. Bam, "screen falls out/doesn't sift litter" resolved. That internal edge also would have prevented the top lid from seating flush over the upper lip on the base, the main method of sealing in litter when the box is rolled. Boom, "clips don't hold lid on / litter spills or leaks / poop falls on floor" resolved. But at the end of the day, do you want something that has to be carefully put together, while monitoring for product-defeating defects? No, this thing is four parts, it should snap together on the first try and work flawlessly every time. But thanks to manufacturing defects like poorly cut plastic, that's not the case. So one star off the top since nobody wants a litter box they have to baby-sit. As for its actual sifting ability... sort of. Our cats are MENSA-certified geniuses. When your genius urinates on the filtering grate or the back wall of the box, it will stick, and you'll still have to scrape it out. Nothing you can do about that. And if you have to dig around with a scoop anyway, ask yourself how much time, effort, and ick you're really saving yourself. Which brings me to my last concern. It's a bit small in there. Our cats are a healthy but sizeable 12 pounds. With a usable interior area of 12"x14" at the widest, larger cats have just about exactly enough room to do their business and not an inch more... which increases the likelihood of urine on a surface where it'll stick and not roll into the tray. For best results, wait for clumping before rolling. But at best, you'll still scoop. ... show more
