My heavens this thing is handy! Now, mind you, I got it for an event that needs something that holds 19L (about 5 gallons), so I will be getting a smaller one after the event for my own personal use, but having instant hot water at your fingertips - makes my little tea drinking heart go all pitter-pat, LOL! I got it on sale, so it was quite a good value. Once I got it cleaned out - cycled some water and then lemon water then more water through it, the smell went away and it is working excellently. 19L takes a while to heat up, but it does a a pretty fast job for the size and then you switch it to "keep warm" and it holds it at the point of boiling until you turn it off. So fabulous. It is all metal except for the heavy duty plastic spout. A very nice appliance.

Perfect product for keeping water at just the right temperature for immediate use. The problem is that it did not work out of the box, terrible instructions, and when you call the customer support number listed on Amazon, you get a recording that keeps saying your first in line but no one picks up for about 15 minutes. It seems as they off-shored support as the person had trouble understanding, then left to get someone else . . . . now it has been about 30 minutes waiting and and listening to terrible music. Someone just returned and said no one is available who can help and I would get an email explaining the issues. Worse still their weblink to user support, provided by Amazon did not work. Someone should check before listing contact and support info on Amazon as well as the level of support. Amazon set up a return for the item, and I will try not to use Nutrichef again.

Update: I have upgraded to 4 stars (it would be 5 if it hadn't been defective in the first place)! It turns out that our unit was defective. We sent it back under warranty and the new unit is perfectly quiet once the water is boiled. Now we are very happy with it! I will also commend the customer service provided by Nutrichef/Pyle. They answered every email very promptly and courteously. I will point out that the warranty does specify that the BUYER must pay the shipping to return, and Nutrichef pays shipping back to you. Fortunately for us, they made an exception, and provided a shipping label. It would have cost $50 for us to send it back for repairs! My recommendation is to pay careful attention during the Amazon return period! Pros: It is very handy to have hot water - we use it every day! It keeps the water close to the set temperature (we use the highest setting of 208F, and I have measured it at 205 - 207F degrees when full). The settings are easy to use. It dispenses water easily, with just one drip after you stop pressing the button. It is easy to fill. If mostly empty, I unplug it and carry it to the sink to refill, and the handle is strong enough to carry it back when full. The water level window lights up when you press the "unlock" button, which is a great feature. The inside is metal, not plastic (although the lighted window is plastic, and there is plastic in the lid and dispensing unit, which does not bother us, but might be important for some users). Cons: It is not well insulated. Maybe not insulated at all? If unplugged, the water cools quickly. I thought that it would be more like a thermal pot, that would not only heat the water, but keep it hot for several hours (even if unplugged). Instead, it needs to reheat the water often. I assume this is the cause of the noise? It takes 30 or 40 minutes to heat the water initially (5 liters), which creates steam and is noisy, but expected. After that, I expected that it would just sit quietly. Not so. Part of every hour it seems to be reheating and making noise, for maybe 10 or 20 minutes at a time. I can hear it on the other side of the room. It sounds similar to a pot simmering (loudly) on the stove, with an additional electronic "hum". I find it very annoying. I imagine it is not very energy efficient due to the lack of insulation and the need to keep reheating. I have dropped the stars to 2 because the noise is so bothersome. Overall, I love having a hot water dispenser, and this does work, but feels cheap and is noisy. The price was the selling point, but it definitely is not the same quality as the big name brands. Edit: it should not be noisy during reheating. After initial boil, it maintains a steady cycle of heating for 18 minutes, and holding/cooling 16 minutes, but it is perfectly quiet during this cycle.

Love love love love this boiler!!! My husband and I use this on a daily and we can’t rave about it enough. This inside is a stainless steel which is the main reason I purchased this one, which makes it easy to clean and also there’s no plastic heating up constantly!! There is a small portion that’s plastic that I see (see photo) but it’s only on the lid and it doesn’t touch the hot water pot. I haven’t timed how long is takes to heat up fully but with the amount of times I’ve used it I’ve never had to wait for it to finish. When I click the unlock button a blue light shines and shows how much water is left, which I love because it’s hard to see how much water is left on other machines I’ve used. I have the 5L one and it’s perfect for a family of four who uses hot water on a daily. I was gonna get the smaller one because it was cheaper but I’m so glad I did not because we actually do use the entire 5 liters and have to fill it up every few days. We’ve have it for almost a year now and no complaints and it has held up great since then. It does take up a little space but then so does an electric kettle so no space lost honestly.

To a problem I didn't know I had. I've had this water boiler for a little over 7 months now, and I could not possibly be happier with it. It's great for making multiple cups of tea per day without having to wait for the kettle to boil each time. It's also wonderful for foods that cook with boiling water (instant noodles, oatmeal, etc.). I like the standby feature to stop the heating for a certain amount of time, even though I don't use it. It takes approx. 25 minutes to boil the water when cooled or just filled, and I want my caffeine NOW in the mornings. I haven't seen any noticeable increase in my electric bill with leaving it on all the time. There are times when the water won't dispense, I think due to air in the line somewhere. I've noticed it mostly when I don't fill the carafe all the way to the fill line before letting it boil, and it's quickly remedied by opening the lid and closing it again. The black and stainless appearance fits in very well with the rest of my kitchen appliances and decor. I'm thrilled with this product.

I love this water heater so much that I’ve bought it again! Not because it has gone bad, but because I need them in different locations. The stainless steel water holder is the biggest reason I chose this one and the water truly tastes good. I’m VERY picky about the flavor of water even when using it to make tea. I don’t think tea covers up the taste, the water quality always comes through. At home, in addition to herbal tea on demand, I use the hot water to make salt water rinses in the am and pm for my teeth. Warm water upon waking and before bed is so much easy at the push of a button. I also use one camping and take sponge baths with the water and a little tea tree oil (mixed outside the reservoir). Really easy to stay clean and wash the face with the warm water so accessible. The lighted amount of water makes a huge difference in seeing how much is left compared to other models.
