I ordered this LAMFO Non Stick Frying Pans, 8 inch Cast Iron Skillets with Detachable Handle, Egg Pan Skillet because I needed a new cast iron frying pan. I’ve spent my entire adult life in NYC, but I grew up down South and the idea of a new cast iron pan seemed strange, somehow. Surely one just had such things, one didn’t need to get new ones? Sort of like the British landed gentry who say one has furniture, one doesn’t buy it. But we’ve had too many moves, and somewhere along the way, my trusty old frying pan found a box to hide in, and I haven’t seen it since. Oh, I hope we will meet again someday, some bright, shiny day when finally get through all the boxes in storage and actually have enough shelf space for every one of our boxed books. But in the meantime, I needed a new cast iron frying pan. This frying pan is approximately 8” wide. It is made of cast iron and comes with a detached rosewood handle. It also comes with a small pamphlet explaining everything you need to know about the frying pan including how to attach the wooden handle. It’s very easy to do. Also, being able to detach the handle means the pan can go into the oven and even the dishwasher, if you choose to put this in the dishwasher. This frying pan is both cast iron and non stick. That raises the question: does it need to be seasoned? Has it been pre-seasoned? I didn’t see any information about this on the sales page. The instruction pamphlet recommends you wash and dry the pan before the first use, and then add a thin layer of oil. Having started the process, I went ahead and seasoned the pan. There are different schools of thought about seasoning cast iron pans, about seasoning non stick pans. I find that taking the time to season the pans pays off in the long run. There’s plenty of information about how to season a cast iron, non stick, or even a cast iron/nonstick pan like this one available online, but if you aren’t familiar with the process, it’s basically removing any factory finish or dust or impurities by washing and drying, then adding thin layers of oil and putting the pan in the oven at high heat for several intervals with cool down time in between. The oil, the heating and cooling, it all adds up to a protective finish on the pan. Once I had the pan seasoned and the handle on, I gave it a try. The bottom of the frying pan is covered with rows of very tiny little bumps. I was curious if this would affect the cooking, but I didn’t notice any significant changes. At 8”, this is a nice size for cooking for myself and my husband. It’s great for eggs, or steak frites, or a grilled cheese sandwich. If I want to make grilled cheese for us and my teenage son, I need a bigger frying pan, but this is a nice size for daily use. I found the pan heated quickly and evenly. The nonstick surface worked well. Clean up was easy, too. The sales page says that this frying pan can go in the dishwasher. I’ve always been cautious when cleaning cast iron, so I haven’t put it in my dishwasher, but it’s nice to know I could if I wanted to. I found that a quick sponge was enough to remove any food remnants after cooking. It only takes a moment to clean and dry the pan by hand. This frying pan is weighty and solid; sturdy and built to last. The wooden handle feels smooth in the hand and is easy to install and remove. I love that you can remove the wooden handle easily to pop the skillet into the oven. It’s very convenient to be able to start a dish on the stovetop and then put it into the oven to finish cooking. 8” frying pan combined cast iron sturdiness and non stick convenience. A nice size if you are cooking for one or two people. The wooden handle is removable so the pan can go in the oven, or in the dishwasher if you choose. Excellent quality, very well made; a very useful addition to our kitchen. (Oh, and the removable handle makes it easier to store, too! Space is always at a premium in our NYC house,)

My old 8" nonstick fry pan needs to be replaced; I have used it carefully for two years now, and the nonstick coating is starting to flake. So. I saw this cast iron 8" pan, with a nonstick coating (and removable handle so it can be used in an oven, which I do not need), at a great price, and ordered. This is a very high quality item. The pan is obviously cast iron, heavy and durable, but the cooking surface and sides are very smooth, like the old old style cast iron pans. My stove is electric; the pan heats evenly. It is easy to clean, and should be treated like cast iron. It is "nonstick", and rust resistant, but does not have a Teflon coating. Think of it as a smooth, cast iron pan that is very rust resistant, but it still needs that cast iron coating of oil that gets hot to seal the "pores" and make and keep it nonstick. Cast iron can be used with any stove, gas, electric, or induction, which makes it very versatile. It is dishwasher safe, but I will handwash it like I would cast iron. I think the results will be better. It is quite heavy compared to stainless steel or aluminum pans, but not so heavy that it is difficult to use. This is a high quality pan, sturdy and durable, and should last forever. If used and treated correctly, it is defiitely very nonstick. Hubby and I are delighted with its design and function, and would recommend it without hesitation. This is a great cast iron pan!

An 8 imch skillet is small but it is useful for specific purposes, like making an omelette, pancakes, and crepes. The pan itself appears to be of high quality. The setup is fairly straightforward and it’s ready to go in a few minutes.

Well-made cast iron frying pan. I've always used traditional cast iron pans, and this is my first non-stick. Great for eggs and small portions. So far so good. I wonder how long the non-stick part will work and what will happen after that.
