Batman by Paul Dini is really a well crafted beginner book for anyone who hasn't previously read a lot of Batman, but is at least aware of who Batman is as a character. Because this book reads more like a Celebration of the Batman mythos, and because it has a lot of stand alone stories in the book, it gives you a bit of an introduction to the Man of the Hour.
