Description

Reflective radiant heat with the warmth of the sun. That is the Mr. Heater Portable Radiant Heater in a nutshell. This Radiant 35,000 BTU portable Liquid Propane Heater requires no electricity and is whisper quiet. With factory installed features, like a tip-over safety switch and a thermoelectric safety valve, the only thing you need to make this heater the most useful tool you own is a 20lb propane tank. Just hook the tank up to the supplied 10ft hose and regulator, then enjoy the quiet warmth of the Mr. Heater Portable Radiant. The Mr. Heater MH35LP 35,000 Btu portable propane radiant heater is perfect for construction sites where you don't need to heat more than 800 square feet. The MH35LP is a radiant heater, which means it directly heats objects in front of it instead of the surrounding air. This makes it very efficient: you can get up to 12 hours of use from a 20-pound propane cylinder. Hook-up is simple using the included hose and regulator, and handy jobsite features include a folding handle, transport wheels, and convenient piezo push-button igniter. Rugged steel construction means that this heater is going to last, too. CSA Certified. One-year limited warranty.-- Josh DettweilerWhat's in the Box Heater (cont. Let's break it down a little to make the process easier. What are the different types of space heaters? Radiant heaters emit infrared radiation that directly warms the objects in front of the heaters (rather than the surrounding air). If you only need heat by a desk or in a small section of a room, a radiant heater is quiet and will use very little power.Forced-air heaters use a fan to blow air that has been warmed by metal or ceramic heating elements. A forced-air heater is appropriate for quickly heating up a small- to medium-sized room, but can be noisy.Convection heaters draw cold air from the floor; the air is warmed by heating coils and emitted from the top of the heater. A convection heater is appropriate for quickly heating up a small- to medium-sized room, but also can be noisy.Radiators work by heating oil enclosed in a reservoir, gradually heating the surrounding air. If heating speed isn't an issue, you might want to opt for a radiator. These are extremely quiet and effective--perfect for bedrooms.Should I buy an electric or a combustion model? If you want a heater that will be available in emergencies, or that can heat areas larger than a single room, choose a "combustion" model--one that is powered by a gas or fuel like propane, kerosene, natural gas, or diesel. Which fuel type you choose depends largely on convenience and local availability. For example, diesel would be appropriate for a heater you take with you on long car trips. How powerful a heater do I need? Heaters are rated by BTU, which stands for British Thermal Unit (the amount of heat needed to heat one pound of water by 1 degree F). To find out how many BTU you need: Calculate the volume of the space to be heated by multiplying square footage by height. Multiply that number by 4 if your insulation is poor, 3 if it's average, or 2 if it's good. The resulting number is a ballpark figure for how many BTU you'll need.Do space heaters cost a lot to operate? As a general rule, electric space heaters are more expensive to use than combustion models. To ensure energy efficiency, a thermostat is a must-have feature for any heater. For radiant heaters, models with a 360 degree heating surface can heat larger spaces. If you need a forced-air heater, models with ceramic elements tend to be more efficient. Are space heaters a fire hazard? Space heaters are implicated in about 25,000 residential fires every year. To ensure proper safety, always follow the manufacturer's usage instructions and fill out the warranty card to receive informational updates from the manufacturer. Also, look for extra safety features such as an automatic shutoff switch that can shut down the unit if, for example, it gets upended. In addition, choose a model where the heating element is adequately enclosed within the unit.

  • Great portable heater for garage & patio!
This Mr. Heater unit works great to heat our 24' x 35' garage. It does take a little time to heat the space to sweatshirt temps. when it is 32 degrees F. and colder outside. Heating time really depends on how well your workspace is insulated and if you have a fan to blow the hot air down from the ceiling. The amount of propane used is acceptable. I got about 14 hours out of one 20 lb. cylinder working in the garage with temps. around 25 degrees F. outside. Heater is very quiet, especially when compared to torpedo heaters. Heater works great on the patio for temps down to the mid 50's or so. One evening, we were going to fire up the chimenea but did not have enough time. We rolled out Mr. Heater and had instant heat. The orange glow from the heating element was a fair simulation to actual embers in a fire. Great for two people(and our dog) to sit in front of. The heat felt similar to that of the chimenea. When we were done, just turned off the gas valve, let it cool for 10 minutes and put it back in the garage. We took it camping just in case we had rain and wanted heat under our dining canopy. Luckily the weather cooperated and we used the fire pit the whole time. If you were camping in cold temperatures, it would work well to heat you from behind when sitting in front of a campfire. Unit is very light and transportable. Only precaution that I would recommend would be is to have good air exchange in confined spaces(garage) and watch that the gas hose and anything flammable stays away from the front of the heating element. Also keep the propane tank as far away as possible from all ignition sources. Sure beats the smell and handling of kerosene for a torpedo heater! A great little heater for the money!! ... show more

  • Be careful when lighting the unit.
The heater works very well. No complaints at all about it's performance. You need both hands to light it and your head will be close to the burner. It takes practice to get good at it. You have to get on your knees to light it. I don't like that at all. Otherwise, it is a good heater.

  • Great heater for my Deck in the North Georgia.
I have recently built a beautiful deck as an addition to my place in North Georgia so I could enjoy the out of doors and entertain friends more easily. With the cold weather upon us, I bought this heater to throw warmth specifically in the direction of where we were sitting or dining. For me it works better than a mushroom heater that throws heat 360 degrees because it throws heat directly toward a specific area. I would guess the heater sends heat out about 9-10ft straight ahead and about the same range width wise depending if you have a breezy day or how cold it is outside. * I use this instead of a firepit...No mess to clean up and when I am ready to go inside, I just turn it off instead of having to dowse a fire or wait for the logs to burn down. And I love not smelling smokey like you'd experience if I had a firepit to warm us on the deck. This little heater is perfect for my use. Just wish it was a bit more decorative or the cart that houses the heating element would accommodate the propane tank too for a bit neater presentation. I Highly recommend this little heater. I rented 3 similar style heaters from a tent company for a patio party when the temperatures dropped suddenly and didn't want to move my dinner party inside. The three heaters worked great for the party of 16 friends. You may want to consider buying at least two if you enjoy entertaining out of doors and don't' want to worry about your guests being cold. These little heaters make you feel toasty in seconds, no waiting for a fire to catch ablaze...I can go out and enjoy my deck for a few moments with this little heater to enjoy watching the birds while I enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning, or a few hours for a cockout with several friends ...we are comfortable Autumn and Winter so I can enjoy the deck all four seasons. ... show more

  • Good to use to keep temp up. Uses a lot of propane

  • Simple, provides great heat
I ended up purchasing this for the covered portion of my back patio since the ceiling was two low to safely use the "normal" heaters that you see on patios at restaurants. This Mr. Heater unit is a bit more industrial looking than those but it's low profile keeps it from grabbing your attention. What you don't see in the picture (or in the manual or in the description) is that the supplied hose for connecting to the LP cylinder is a generous 12 feet long. The manual (which is overburdened with safety information) wants you to keep your LP tank at least 6 feet away so this gives you plenty of lee way. Some people have noted problems starting the unit with the supplied piezoelectric starter but I had no issues there. It starts reliably for me every time. I have to admit that it does take a bit longer than I was comfortable with the first few times and there is a definite "woosh" that you get as the gas finally ignites but I never felt it was dangerous and the piezoelectric spark is visible so I *know* it's going to catch in fairly short order. It seems to take about 3 times longer than does my piezoelectrically started bar-b-que. One note: The Mr. Heater website is not that great. You can't register your products there as of this writing. And their "contact them" form suffers from the same issue (cannot select mandatory State field), so you've got to use an actual stamp to register. A minor item unless you need support from them which I did not. ... show more

  • Very nice looking quality little heater
I ordered it towards the tail end of winter. Unfortunately, by the time I received it, the weather got nice enough that I never got to use it. But it is a very nice quality piece. I am sure it is going to work great!
