If you are looking to turn your garage or barn into a work space you can use all year-round, you will have to find a safe quiet and reliable heat source. This 80,000 BTU Natural Gas Unit heater is the way to go. It uses a built-in electric high velocity fan to pull cool air into the rear of the heater, across a heat exchanger, then forcing warm air into the surrounding areas. These heaters only require 115v AC power and can be vented vertically or horizontally - please check local codes and restrictions. With a mounting clearance of only 1 inch, the supplied brackets, external access to power, and thermostat connections - installation is a cinch. With the Durable Spark ignition and robust factory standard self diagnostic control module, we can offer a 3 year factory warranty on all parts and burners and a 10 year warranty on any defects in the heat exchanger. • Can’t bet it for small appliances
Style: Heater
Best bang for the buck, hands down. Installed this in our three car garage and couldn’t be happier with it. It definitely does the job. Unit only pulls 2.5 amps at 120v. I Just plugged it into one my outlets in garage with an extension cord and it’s been heating ever since. The hardest part of the install was the gas pipe, as I had to hand thread the pipe for my application. (I believe Home Depot or Lowe’s can do it for you) You also need a thermostat. I used a basic white Roger’s dry contacts and used 18/2 thermostat wire. ... show more

  • Great heater
Style: Heater
Received the heater in short time from ordering, very happy with it installed, converted to propane, set the gas pressure, checked for leaks, fired it up to burn off oils. It does not have a pilot burner, happy to see that, lights straight off the inshot burner no more having to clean pilot orifice every fall. My last heater cost more for parts to get it up and running than this heater cost new, no brainer. Good heater for the money should last for years . PS. When I was working I was an installer for a propane company, just saying. ... show more

  • Keep in mind the cost to install - but still great value!
Style: Heater
This is great value for money. Service was next to none. Keep in mind you will need to pay for a vent whether it is horizontal or vertical. Allow $300 approx for this. You may also need professionally installation as this unit requires connection to a propane tank (recommend at least 120 gal) and a regulator cost. With tank lease, regulator, 2 men to install, gas line, proper gas fittings all up $950. So the whole investment approx $2k. You could save by having the unit fitted in place with help, but you best be sure of the codes ie distance from walls, roof, floor etc etc because if this baby ignites your garage and burns to the ground and it wasn’t fitted to code and proves it was the cause - then - need I say more. The unit was fitted initially and vibrated horribly due to a bent fan blade damaged in transit. Picked up the phone and the supplier had a replacement sent in 3 days. Unfortunately, they sent the wrong one. However, 2 days later via FedEx the right one was sent. Fitted and works like a new one should. Some say it’s noisy but I can’t say it is. I can say it belts out some heat and so far economically. I will up date this when I’ve been through a cold season. Dec 2022 Update: fitted a nest thermostat and have this running at 56F whilst outside sun 30’s. I use around a gallon a day so out of a 120 gallon tank this thing keeps my shop cost for around 2-3 months. Around $300 a tank refill at current prices this beast is both economic and simply keeps me toasty and in my shop a hell of a lot. I’m a happy chappy! ... show more

  • Read the instructions it tells you step by step on how to install it, very easy to read.
Style: Heater
I had this heater installed in less then a day, very easy to install, the venting and thermostat and other hardware you have to buy separate is pretty pricey, I’m not upset about it I’m just wanting to let others know that buying this heater be ready to put more money into it, the most expensive is the venting part because you have to get double sided vent for it which is pretty pricey. Instead of going out of the roof or the side of the house (which is most recommended) I just tide it into the water heater which saved me a ton of money. Just wanted to update my review, after 2 winters running this heater I have had no issues, when I went to use it though my second season I noticed it was making a strange sound so I had opened the service book that came with it and learned how to do the regular maintenance cleaning etc, once I cleaned the unit the noise went away, I have read all the other reviews and I’m not sure why everyone else is having issues. For me I would recommend this heater I have finally also gotten the chance to insulate my shop doors which has helped so much now I will turn the thermostat to 70 degrees and it’ll the heater will run for maybe 30 min and shit off for probably almost 5 hours if not longer, again this is just my experience with this unit I am very pleased. ... show more

  • Very Good Heater, Happy to have it Installed.
Style: Heater
Great heater, great value. Put it to use in my three car detached garage. The garage is fully insulated and thus the heater warms it easily. Some complained it was loud/noisy, I did not find that to be true. Instructions easy to follow for an experienced Do It Yourself. I am very pleased with it's performance and value, you will be too. I needed a propane conversion kit, it was not in the box, I think it fell out perhaps because the box showed up pretty beat up. The heater was damaged a bit, cosmetic mostly. But I did call help desk at Mr. Heater and they were very helpful and sent a propane conversion kit within the week. Got it installed without a problem. Would have given 5 stars if the packaging had been better. Mr heater could design better packaging. Hope they do. You won't be disappointed. ... show more

  • Works well when it works
Style: Heater
This is my second Mr Heater, I have a 50 btu unit as well. The 50k worked for 3 weeks before it stopped working and this one worked for about 1 minute. I fired it up and it worked perfectly. T'he next day the fan would not kick on. Have already been on the phone on hold for about 45 min before leaving a call back number. They will call back, ask me some questions, then say they are sending out a new circuit board, which is what my other one needed also. I'm being generous by giving them a 3 star review, but i'm keeping in mind the cost of the unit which is a really good value. I really like the heater, I just don't know if i can depend on it. Every time i've been on hold with them the recording says they are receiving unusually heavy call volume. Since they clearly know they are selling an unreliable product, it would be nice if they would hire more service tech advisors. I probably spent 3-4 hours with my other heater between time on hold, diagnostic time and actually replacing the circuit board. If you don't like working on stuff you might want to look at a different brand. If you do decide to purchase one just plan on doing your own diagnostics and repairs. Update 1/29/2020- Have been on the phone 3 times doing diagnostics on this heater. It is working but the problem now is that it cycles on and off about every 30 seconds to 2 minutes. I have been asked to checked the voltages in and out of the circuit board and check the pressures sn column of water. The last guy had me disconnect the pressue switch and bypass it. The heater ran for several minutes while he stayed on the phone so he sent me out a new switch. I installed it and it is still cycling. Back on the phone for the long hold and unusual call volume. They called back after a couple of hours and said they were sending me a new control board. 3/25/2020 Installed new control board. Heater still cycles on and off. I'm not getting back on the phone with this company again. Still heats my shop, just not nearly as efficiently as it should. Not very happy overall. Paid new price for a brand new heater and Ive wasted hours of my time for something that has never worked properly and never will. ... show more

  • Great Value And Well Constructed
Style: Heater
I bought this heater mostly because Northern Tool had them on sale at a great price with free shipping. So yeah, I'm cheap. I like a bargain. I was pleasantly surprised when the heater arrived and I saw the quality of the overall construction. I was afraid with a cheap price I would receive a cheap heater. I am however beyond happy with it. It is a great product and is built like a tank. ( Which is a good thing... read the last part of my review.) The installation was painless and easy and I converted the unit to Propane from the original Natural gas. The propane kit was easy to install with clear and concise instructions on how to do the conversion. This heater is heating a 24 X 36 shop with R-13 insulation and twelve foot ceiling height. So far it has not shown itself to be a gas hog like others have described it. It has been down to ten degrees at night and the heater maintained the forty degree setting with ease and not much fuel use. The only issue I had was with the shipper and not the product or with Northern Tool. I hate pointing fingers but the shipper had beat my heater up to the point where it looked like it had been delivered by airplane and dropped from about a thousand feet! It is a good thing the heater is constructed as well as it is because otherwise it would have been useless! It is a real testimony of how well the unit is constructed because I was able to make repairs and straighten all of the damage. Then after a close inspection of the vital components we fired it up. So far I highly recommend this product and the Mr. Heater brand. ... show more

  • Awesome little heater, even on propane!
Style: Heater
Hung this in my 1300sqft shop. I have it hooked up to a nest thermostat. It works great. This was a replacement for a very old Reznor 75k BTU. I am running this on propane and it heats much faster than my old Reznor. The fan is quiet.
