Description

Employ a smart piece of Swiss ingenuity in your everyday life with a clock from the good people at Mondaine. Sleek, minimalist and modern, these clocks embody the precision steadily ticking along inside every Mondaine timepiece. The face of the Mondaine Swiss Railways (SBB) clock has been a mainstay of minimalist, Bauhaus design for 70 years. The design features an iconic red paddle-shaped second hand, inspired by the paddles that were used to signal the arrival and departure of the Swiss trains, and an easy-to-read black and white face. This signature design has been responsible for the legendary punctuality of the Swiss rail network. The Mondaine SSB clock embodies executive presence and superior design.

  • Quiet, nice looking and accurate
The clock is easy to see, runs very quietly and so far is accurate. More pricey than many wall clocks so personal decision if willing to spend what this clock co but I think it was worth it

  • Easy to read
This is surprisingly easy to read. Without numbers I thought it would be difficult. The problem with no digit designs is indexing. With this clock you can find 12 o’clock by the printed message, You have to be careful mounting it correctly. I added a white dot at the 12 o’clock line to help out. Stylewise it looks cool but the price is very high if you just want a wall clock. ... show more

  • Quality product and Quiet
I originally gave it a three because movements in these clocks (German) are 12 to 14 dollars, while ones from China are around five to six. So that’s about $200 for an aluminium case imported from a large country in Asia. The quality of powder coating is good though. Hands & distinctive seconds ‘paddle’ match well with markings. But is the clock worth $215? Depends.... It has ‘Mondaine’ & “Official Railways Clock Design” on it, so probably paying for the name. Or so I thought. Revision Sept, 2017: A recent purchase of a Sieko wall clock has given me new respect for the German movement, design, and QC for the Mondaine. The movement isn't just snapped in place and held by clamps and an adhesive ring like 'throw-away' models. The Mondaine is all metal construction (except for movement) and that might be a plus. Formed plastic can act as an amplifier and make for a very loud Tick-Tick sound not present on the Mondaine. The clock is arm's length from my nightstand and can't hear it. The plastic Seiko was across the room, and after three months "tick-tick" turned into TICK! TICK! It got so loud, we finally had to put it out on patio. The,Mondiane is still very accurate on only its second battery. By contrast, a two month old 'generic' brand kitchen clock with sweeping second hand is already several minutes fast. Bottom line: If you can still find one, it might be worth the extra money. I had thought "Mondaine" name was hype, but it's well made, very accurate, and incredibly quiet for a step movement clock. ... show more

  • Looks great. Mechanism is surprisingly disappointing
Looks great on first impression. Mechanism is surprisingly disappointing. Second hand ticking along and even bouncing a bit in a jangly way with every second. The real ones at the railroad station have a smooth, continuous sweep second hand, except for the very cool pause at 60 seconds. Also, with the real ones the minute hand does not creep along the dial; it shifts into place with every new minute. Look for yourself on YouTube, "Swiss Railway Clock". The actual real clocks are not only beautiful in pictures they are so cool in motion. For $16 the "hito" brand, there are other brands too, can offer a smooth continuous second hand that works fine. That's what I went to and it's fine, pretty accurate too in fact. I was willing to pay a premium for the Mondaine clock... But little does it compare to the actual clocks in the Swiss Railway stations. I even called the USA distributor Lumondi Inc. asking if I could pay more and get a mechanism with at least a continuous sweep second hand. They were more into claiming their cheap mechanism is how the actual railway clocks work and then claiming Amazon isn't authorized to sell their products. I'm willing to pay a higher price for quality but this is a case of lipstick on a pig, bummer. I returned the clock. Looks great as long as it's not running. ... show more

  • Beautiful design
This wall clock is Beautiful, very high quality and I can easily read it far across the other side of the room. Contrasting, red colored, second hand looks sharp.

  • Overpriced
Clock body is made in China, movement in Germany. Sturdy but way overpriced for what it is.
