I have been thinking about getting this alarm for a while now. I have opted for alternatives like smart home light automations before but I am actually glad I got this clock because of ease of use and not having to go into my phone to turn it off. Some background of my environment and why I have considered this clock before: I sleep on the side of the bed where we sometimes hear cars driving past our busy street. My partner has a sound machine on his side but I have been considering having one too. My issues with sleep involve sometimes staying asleep or not feeling refreshed when I wake up. I have found waking up with light automations a game changer for me especially during the winter. I have found this clock easy to setup via the app. Another thing I love about this clock is that it has buttons and it functions without having to go into your phone. I cannot stand hardware that is solely dependent on my phone as a person who is trying to go a little more analogue in their life. Also, the buttons were thought out and they feel tactile and different from each other so it feels intuitive to me without having to look. It seems like a good quality clock. I love the layout of the app where you can configure what you want the clock to do. You can setup winding down routine, sleeping routine and waking routine by configuring and setting the light, sound volume, sound type. I am excited to play more with these features because I am the meditation type and love listening to audiobooks every now and then. I get so picky about the sound of people's voices for winding down so I am happy the library has been curated well.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great Addition to My Nighttime Routine I’ve been using the Hatch Restore 3 for a few weeks now, and I’m really impressed. The sunrise alarm makes waking up feel much more natural, and the white noise helps me fall asleep faster without reaching for my phone. I've had the Hatch for almost a month now and it has definitely helped my sleep a lot! As someone who struggles a lot with falling asleep, I've tried a few different things that haven't worked, and the Hatch routines have already made a difference. It was very easy to customize the routine, and having the cue to help start the routine has really helped keep me on a better sleep schedule. I wish the box had come with more instructions as I've been figuring out a lot through the app & tiktok videos, but it has been quite easy to set up my custom routines once I got the hang of it. I love the amount of customizable features with the lights and sounds (as shown in the photo) and in addition to being functional, I love that it makes a cute addition to my nightstand :)

I purchased this during prime day because I wanted to get better about my sleep hygiene. I struggle to stay asleep and thought this might be helpful. First, I love the putty color. It looks nice and doesn’t look like a traditional alarm clock. Second, I am really liking the reminder to turn off devices and get ready for bed. I need that que to put down the electronics and stop. Third, audio books being read are so entertaining yet soothing. I am loving listening to the classics that I would never normally read. I like that you can adjust the volume to what works best for you. Some of the audio books are louder than others. Finally, the Navy White Noise puts me to sleep. It is soothing and peaceful. I still wake up around 3 or 4am, but I am better able to fall back to sleep. For wake up, I am still getting used to the bright light and bird sounds. It is not jarring like an alarm, which I love. What I am struggling with is actually getting out of bed when I wake. I start scrolling and then an hour goes by. I need to be more disciplined. Overall I like the change this is making in my sleep routine.

Three stars is generous - it’s really a two-star review, but I like the white noise feature. Yeah, I know I could have found a cheaper white noise machine. The device itself is pretty cool. The user interface on the iPhone app completely blows. And that’s before we talk about the $49/yr subscription to control the settings via the app. It’s difficult enough to control with the trial version of the app, and became downright obstinate when I canceled the app service within the first thirty days. Honest, I gave serious thought to returning the whole thing because of these difficulties. Let me say it again - the app blows. I’m very technology literate and it’s just a poorly designed app, bad user interface, and not intuitive at all. For all practical purposes you need a subscription if you want some variety. Fortunately, I’m boring. I’m ok with the same go to bed routine and wake up routine. I’ll be fine with the way I’ve got it set up for the next 20 years. But… I have to manually adjust the volume every night as the app wouldn’t let me save the volume setting. The best part? The white noise settings. I somehow got it to play soft nature settings all night long. It *must* have been a default setting as there’s no way the app was robust enough for me to find that setting. Have I mentioned the app blows? And I’m being kind when I say blows. I honestly can’t tell the difference between the nature sounds playing all night vs having a window open at a cabin out in the country. Speaking of deficient users interfaces? The UI on the Restore device itself also blows. I do a long press of the big knob at night before bed and rotate the knob to adjust the volume. A long press of that big knob turns it off in the morning. The Hatch people market this as an elegant solution - and the overall vibe is cool. The design is a 7 out of ten. The user interface shortcomings drag the score down to an overall rating of 2. The white noise bumps (for me) it back up to a five or six. The lack of a visible clock on the thing is a detraction. The only way I’ve ever gotten the clock to display is to tilt the device. Which is kind of dumb, although I understand the lack of a constant clock was a design decision. If you’re looking for an alarm clock? Go to Target and spend twenty bucks and get the one with red digits. If you want something that sort of reminds you of an elegant design, and you’re ok with the price and don’t have high expectations about the app, yeah, for sure go get one of these. I’m convinced the white noise is contributing to the eight hours of restful sleep I receive every night. So, yeah, in limited use cases you’ll like it. If you like to tinker and customize, you’ll probably not like it. Have I mentioned how bad the UI is? Hatch should immediately go out and hire some former Apple design people.

The Hatch Restore 3 is an incredible product, that has changed my nighttime routine and improved my mornings. I don’t want to include too many superlatives, but it has changed my life. The setup experience is where it all starts. After downloading the app, it was incredibly simple to put together a nighttime routine that matched my sleep goals. The hatch app asks a handful of questions (when do you want to go to sleep? Why are you looking to change your habits? Etc.) The entire setup takes less the 5 minutes and the app creates a tailored plan to help you achieve your goals. Once setup, you’re off to (sleep) races. It’s easy to navigate from the wind down phase of your plan to the sleep portion by easily tapping the button on top of the speaker. My plan included first a reading light (since I wanted to spend more time reading before bed) and then 8 hours of “Malibu Ocean”. The sound on the device is crisp and soothing, and it’s easy to quickly adjust the sound by turning the same button on top. I’ve also played a few of the wind down stories (hound of the Baskerville!) and the sound quality is too notch. The reading light is easily adjustable via the Hatch app as well. There’s a few options for reading lights - or you can adjust to any number of different colors with a couple of button taps. I’ve moved my lamp off my bedside table because I much prefer the reading light in the Hatch 3. The clock works well too - because it’s connected to your device there’s no changing time for daylight savings etc. It’s also super easy to choose when you want the clock to display and when you want to hide it. Bottom line - I was skeptical that this was the device that could get me to move my phone to another room at night. I was wrong. I’m feeling more rested then ever, I’ve been freed from my nighttime doom scroll and instead have started reading, and I’m getting up on time and ready to face the day. 5 stars - I’m gonna need another one for my husband’s side of the bed too.
