  • Delivery, Assembly, Operation All Very Satisfactory. Two Important Assembly Tips
We have been very happy, across the board, with this product. First, with regard to operation. Bike is solid and quiet. Mag resistance is clearly the way to go with exercise bicycles. Good tension range. Cranks and pedals allow for comfortable positioning of feet. No flex in the frame and no squeaks anywhere. Materials appear substantial and are heavy duty where they need to be. Seat and back are in a fixed relationship, so short-waisted people might need to put a pillow or folded throw on the seat to get the best comfort position. Handlebars are sort of pointless unless you have a history of falling out of chairs. I didn't install ours, which had the added benefit of creating a much narrower footprint. Weighs around 50 pounds, so it's easy to move around if you want to keep it out of the way and then move it around to watch TV or the like. Seat is cushioned, not bicycle style, and the padding is quite comfortable for a long, (30 to 45 minute) sit. Walk through sitting makes it easy on and off. Computer is hard to see, (poor contrast), but fine for just keeping track of time. Second, delivery. This came UPS. Box was entirely intact. Pieces are individually wrapped and padded. Very compact, so not likely to have much jiggling/damage during transport. Ours didn't even have any cosmetic damage. Third, assembly. Tools that come with bike are sufficient to assemble. All hardware was complete. No missing parts and no extra parts. All holes lined up; no bad threads. Bolts and nuts seemed heavy duty. Frame and stabilizers solid and heavy gauge. Entire flywheel unit is preassembled. Instructions were reasonable; illustrations were better than expected. Laying out and identifying all of the assembly hardware beforehand avoids using the wrong bolts in the wrong places. Anyway, there are only 12 bolts to install - 2 for front stabilizer, 2 for rear stabilizer, 4 for the monitor/resistance control front column, 2 for the handles, 2 for the seat frame. Four little bolts each for the seat and backrest. Two tricky aspects of assembly. Easiest one first. You slide the seat assembly frame into the flywheel assembly frame. That slides back and forth to adjust seat distance, (like the slide on a trombone). There is a spring loaded quick-release knob that you pull out, select your distance, and then release knob to "snap" into your chosen predrilled hole. Then you tighten the knob. When I tried to slide the seat frame into the main frame it hit something that blocked it. I thought it might be a bad weld. It isn't. The quick release knob sits inside a threaded cylinder. That's what turns to tighten things up when you've selected the hole you want. Sometimes that threaded cycinder has been screwed in so far that it obstructs the sliding frame. Just unscrew it a little and the frame will slide right in. Issue two - Connecting the tension cable. This is the issue that has upset some purchasers. Here's how to do it the easy way. This won't make sense until you have the product and the instructions in front of you, but just save this bit. Two things emerge from the flywheel housing - a wire for the monitor and a tension cable. The wire is just a simple little bell wire. The tension cable is like the brake cable on a bicycle. There is a monitor wire that runs through the Front Post. All you're doing here is connecting that wire to the wire that runs from the flywheel assembly. No problem. There is also a cable that comes out the bottom of the post from the tension control. That has to be connected to the flywheel assembly tension cable and it has to be done right or you won't be able to adjust tension. This is where people have a problem. Problem one - the monitor wire and the tension cable are bound together by a little bitty tiny plastic band. They don't need to be bound together and don't work if bound together. Cut that little plastic band off, (very carefully so as not to cut the monitor wire.) O.K., the delicate part is done. Problem two - The upper tension cable connects to the lower tension cable by having its end slide into a metal receptacle and another metal cuff further up slide into a second slotted holder. There is a blowup of this in the instructions that is just right. But, when you try to do that there is not enough distance between the metal receptacle and the slotted holder to get the upper cable into place. You will be tempted to pull on the cable and on the end of the cable and on the collar, but that won't work and will cause damage. Instead - look carefully at the metal bracket that houses the metal receptacle and the slotted holder. It is on a threaded cable end. If you turn the bracket on that threaded end it will close the gap between the metal receptacle and the slotted holder. It will close the gap enough for you to install the cable just as the illustration shows. I don't know why the instructions don't tell you this. If you're lucky, maybe yours will already be turned. But if not, this will work. So, I don't know if anyone will ever read this, but good luck. This machine is a remarkable value and does what it's supposed to. Convenient, quiet and effective - a very happy purchase in our household. ... show more

  • A recumbent bike that's best suited for the mechanically inclined
I just received this yesterday and assembled it today. My impressions are entirely based upon assembly and briefly checking function. With that said, I will update my review in 90-120 days to provide a long-term review. I struggled with what to write here because for the price and raw materials, this is a recumbent bike that's worth buying for the right person. At the same time, it has all sorts of little issues that likely exist in most units, which make it best suited for someone who's mechanically inclined. To start, let me give you a brief summation of recommendation, for those who may not want to read my entire review. I feel this bike is best suited for those who just want to mindlessly spin in front of the TV. This recumbent is solid enough for daily use, but it's not going to provide any serious recumbent user with a variety of resistance or workouts. In sum, this is a VERY simple machine that is meant for pure cardio/calorie burning. If that's what you're looking for AND you're somewhat mechanically inclined, I do recommend this. On the other hand, if you're not mechanically inclined and/or you're expecting this to give you a varied workout, you'd be best suited to seek a recumbent that's a bit more feature rich. Pros and cons: Pros: - It's solidly built and stable - It's nearly silent - It provides enough resistance to burn substantial calories and get your heart rate up - It's perfectly suitable for mindless spinning Cons: - The seat and back support you see in the photos is not what you'll receive. The photos show a contoured seat and back support. What you'll receive (see photo) is nothing more than a broad base and back support with flat foam and basic covering. The seat and backing are not uncomfortable but not of the quality implied by the photos. - The instructions are incomplete. 1. Do not tighten down the seat before you've installed both bolts to hold the armrest. If you do, you won't be able to install those bolts later. 2. In order to install the resistance wire, screw the entire base of the portion coming out of the base, IN. After getting the base portion of the resistance mated with the portion coming from the dial, screw the twistable portion back out approximately 1/3 of the way back out then screw the bolt up to the base in order to secure that setting. It's important to do this so you have the entire 8 resistance settings! - My unit came with pedals that lacked the proper amount of grease for the bearings AND they were both over tightened. To fix this issue, use any decent grease, remove the back cover of each pedal to get to the rear bolt, and then loosen the rear bolt. After that use a liberal amount of grease and then tighten the rear bolt back up snuggly but no more than necessary to remove play in the bearing interface. - The resistance mechanism, crank arms and likely the entire inner system create a somewhat smooth feel but lack a natural feedback you'd expect from pedalling. I didn't take the unit apart to adjust this and very well may need to later but it's mostly due to the fact that the unit uses a belt drive and not chain drive, dial resistance, and very small flywheel. This isn't necessarily a negative because at this price point, this is just simply what you'll get. In short, as long as your unit is quiet when pedalling and there are no uneven areas while you're pedalling, but it feels a little unnatural to you, that's just the sum of belt driven, cheap magnetic resistance and a small flywheel. - Others have stated that this unit can accommodate people up to 6'3" but I question their reasoning. My legs are of average length for my 6'1" height and this unit barely accommodates my leg length. So unless your legs are say 33 inch inseam or under, this isn't going to accommodate you. In sum, because if the issues I ran into, I still feel this is best suited for a mechanically inclined person. Or, if you're not mechanically inclined and have a bike shop near, ask them if they'd assemble your bike. They may not because it's not actually a bike. However, I worked at a bike shop when I was younger and we would provide that service if asked, since the core concepts are similar between and actual bike and exercise bike. I also feel the only people who should be buying this are people 6'1" and under and those who are only buying this to spin and burn calories. If all of the above holds true, I cautiously recommend this. With that said, I will update my review in 90-120 days to give a more long-term opinion. Cheers! ... show more
