  • So Glad I Chose Kobo!
I've been thinking about getting an e-reader for a while and finally decided on the Kobo, and I couldn't be happier. After a lot of research and comparing it to the Kindle, I was sold on the Kobo's reputation for durability. I've had it for about a year now, and it's still working perfectly. The battery life is seriously impressive, lasting ages between charges. What I love most is how portable and handy it is. The size and feel are fantastic—it's super lightweight and not bulky at all, which makes it perfect for reading anywhere. It's a great reading experience and definitely worth the investment! ... show more

  • Amazing e-Reader!!! Well worth the cash!!
The media could not be loaded. I was skeptical at first when it came to reading books off an e-reader. I love the feel of having a physical book in hand and turning pages but reading off these books is amazing. The ability to change light settings and brightness is great for reading at night. As you can tell from the video, it’s quick and responsive when it comes to turning pages or going to the menu or switching settings. The weight of the device itself is pretty light. The plastic it is constructed from feels sturdy. At first it felt and looked cheap but I’ve dropped it once from 3ft and it did not get a single scuff. It is waterproof since I’ve taken it into a pool and got zero damage. The screen itself also feels sturdy. Battery life itself has proven to last quite some time. I charge it almost every two weeks and I do heavy reading on it (3-4hrs a day). I did play with the settings a bit on separate occasions, once the battery only lasted barely a week and a half and the other time it went over 2 weeks. The device itself has never overheated and I don’t see why it should. Storage space wise. There is no way I will ever fill up 32gb worth of books. I currently have 8 books loaded up on it and they’re all 5-20mb in size, with another 7 loaded up to be transferred. When it comes to loading books onto the device, you can easily plug it into a computer via the usb-c cable it comes with. Open up the device folder and drag and drop right into it. Once you’ve safely removed the device from the computer, your device will load and it will show your new books. I haven’t bought or tried out anything from the built in store, not sure how it works but looks like you can download an app on your phone, but the books there and then they will download to your device. TLDR: it’s better than a kindle in my opinion. Spend your money on this model and sideload books by drag and drop. Where you get your ebooks is none of my business but there are places where they are free… ... show more

  • Simple, clear and fun
This is a eReader not a tablet. As such I really enjoy reading books on it. I can easily attach it to my computer and transfer books epub, CBR (if ya want Manga, which I have tried and it looks great). I also borrow books from my local library via Overdrive/Libby and they sync over wifi onto the Kobo. I've had a few Kobos through the years, even before Rakuten bought them. I love the versatility of file support. I've even used it for music jams where I create epubs of lyrics for singers and it scales so well on the screen. Also love that on my smartphone I can sync articles to the Kobo via Pocket and I read them later... nice! I love that this model is water resistant (one less thing to worry about in my bag) and the warm light is clutch for night reading. The resolution is great, and the highest I've ever had in an ereader. I purchased the Kobo case (in orange) and appreciate the kickstand built in and use it at work on a table while eating lunch. Nice design, simple and effective. Grabbed the Kobo Clara BW on sale for about $20 less. While I love ereaders I think they should all be no more than $100. But innovation takes time to be adopted and folks pay the way. ... show more

  • Great eReader, easily the best choice on the market currently
I got this for my step-daughter as an alternative to getting a Kindle since she was going to be mostly side-loading PDFs, epubs and comics. Kindles are less friendly for loading your content, since they're designed to consume books bought from Amazon. It has the newest generation of eInk screen, the Carta 1300 vs Carta 1200 which is in most of the other B&W readers available. During my initial test drive to make sure it was a reasonable alternative to a Kindle Paperwhite I was impressed by how snappy the UI was, and how much more user-friendly it was than the Kindle. I put a CBZ file directly onto it and it worked without issue - which isn't something the Kindle can do. End result was a big win - cheaper than Paperwhite and all positive differences during use. The biggest surprise? While trying it out, I liked it so much more than the current-gen Paperwhite that I started looking for a Kobo for myself to supplement / possibly replace my Paperwhite. I'd recommend the Clara BW to anyone looking for a compact eReader. I didn't notice a size difference between the 6" screen on the Clara BW vs the 6.8" Paperwhite screen. Only downside of the Kobo is case/cover selection. Kindles have less expensive, good-quality first-party cases. Kobo's first-party cases are good, but limited choices and are more expensive than the Amazon-branded Kindle cases. The aftermarket cases for the Kobos are hit or miss on quality or fit. ... show more
