  • very good roof rack
Size: 58"
This affordable roof rack has performed well. I carry either one or two kayaks on top and have had no adverse issues, including at 78 mph. In product reviews, I noted dripping into the vehicle from the cloth pass through attachments. One reviewer said he had no such issues with applying duct tape over these straps beyond the vehicle compartment. I've done this and will update once it rains in Florida (winter and early Spring are dry seasons here). ... show more

  • The solution to the problem.
Size: 58"
Ok. Like many vehicles out there on the market, mine didn't have any way to attach a cargo carrier at all. Thus, options for cross bars are limited. It's all fine and dandy if you already have those side rails that run the length of the vehicle, many option exist for cross bars that simply attach to those rails. However, what happens if you don't have those? Enter the Malone VersaRail Bare Roof Cross Rail Rack! These babies were the answer to my prayers when it comes to a functional cross bar for vehicles without side rails. I first tried a unit by a different manufacturer that simply used tension to secure the rails to the inside door frame of the vehicle. Not a good idea. Poor fit on my vehicle led to one of the bars coming off while traveling down a busy highway and nearly hitting the vehicle behind me. This, even after tightening the unit prior to taking off! Not good at all. This may not be the case with every vehicle, but if your door frames are even the slightest bit wide or have much depth to them from the roof of the vehicle, the tension style is NOT the way to go. On the other hand, this Malone unit utilizes suction cups for stability and is secured to the vehicle using straps that are secured within the vehicle using a ratchet strap-like mechanism. Now don't be put off by my use of the term ratchet strap. The straps that hold the unit on the vehicle are a breeze to attach without fussing with any actual ratcheting actions. Just loop it through, pull it tight, and let go of the locking mechanism. Done! Another plus to this system? No worrying whilst on the road! Pro-tip - With the tension unit, I was constantly looking up through my skylight to make sure nothing had come loose. With this subject design, as long as the straps are connected inside the car, there is nothing to worry about! I have used these cross bars on about three separate occasions all with a heavily loaded Thule cargo XL carrier and never had an issue with load bearing capabilities. No sag in the cross bars, not twisting of the rails, no movement on the suctions cups. Nothing. Overall, if your looking for a solid, dependable cross bar unit, this one fits the bill. ... show more

  • Great temporary solution
Size: 58"
We needed to put a rooftop luggage carrier on our new Mazda CX-5, and we didn’t want to spend over $1000 for Mazda’s OEM solution for a few weeks’ use. After I installed the the Versarail I discovered the “do not use in rain” warning and read the reviews of people getting soaked in their cars. It was too late to buy something else, so I decided to take a shot and hope this worked. Deciding that the wicking of water through the straps was a bigger potential problem than the small separation of the door seals, I covered all the webbing outside of the car with duck tape, making sure there was plenty of overlap with each turn. Bottom line? There were a few drops of water on the seats from an overnight rain, but a 3-hour drive through pouring rain did not let one drop of water into the car. Also, 150 pounds of carrier and contents made the 3-day trip without a hitch. Highly recommended! ... show more

  • Great set up
Size: 58"
These went together really easy and installed just as smooth. The only issue we’ve had is when it rains while these are installed the strap wicks water soooo bad into the car. It soaked us and the seats in just a short rain.

  • better then I was expecting
Size: 58"
before anything I really am happy with this buy over all. I am using this product for my Kayaks. Pro. it does work and I am feeling safer as we use it more and more. Neg. to install can be a little more easier by putting ratchet on it.1 The plastic they use is very slippery.2 Lastly even thought we can use two kayaks it's not as sturdy as it is for one so maybe add A kick stand in the middle that adjust a small add on and as a buyer I would feel it would make a grand improvement for this products. ... show more

  • Perfect non permanent rack system
Size: 58"
I have a a couple 90 pound canoes and a Toyota Tundra, decided I needed some racks and looked at the more expensive brands. I have own a couple of Yakima racks and to change the racks over to my new vehicle would have cost more than these racks. Decided that the Molone Versarail would be my best option based on my use. I am totally impressed with these quality and ease of use. After some basic adjustments the racks were installed within 15 minutes out of the box. Simple assembly and even easier install on the truck. These racks look nice on the truck and work perfectly, I have had no real issues with rain and think most of the issues would be with the weather strips on the vehicle keeping in mind that you will get some wicking to the inside regardless of the strap material. I added the Malone gunnel brackets and could not be happier with my purchase after an uneventful 300 mile round trip at highway speeds. ... show more
