Worked ok for few months but often would not get up to pressure. So I had to turn down heat, open lid and reset on pot holding it down very tightly with all my weight and turning handle to lock. That worked for a few months. Now I cannot get it up to pressure at all. It just keeps spewing Steam and never locks in. I am going to try to get a replacement or my money refunded through the Fagor company. Will keep you posted. ... show more

I have both Fagor and Magefesa pressure cookers. I like this Magefesa Practika Plus because it is simple, comes up to pressure fast, has even heat, and is very easy to clean up. The gauge comes readily out of the lid with a light twist and then can be taken apart into its four pieces to wash & rinse. It's no effort and not at all complicated. The 6 qt. is a good size to play with tiered cooking ("pan in pot") recipes, and handles a whole chicken or a couple of Cornish hens easily, as well as coffee cakes. It's a great energy saver (brown rice in 15 minutes and no-stir Italian risotto in 7 minutes). We use it on our boat and at home. Forget the crockpot -- this is the cook's prize for making a fast dinner taste like an all-day braise. ... show more

    • DO NOT BUY THIS !!
Bought in 2013 and it's now June 2015...the device never worked properly..the lid was always fussy....and required a lot of adjusting to get it to close properly ( usually 2-3 times to get it right) and seal to build pressure. Now...the silicone seal has broken...how- I'm not sure...but when I go online to buy the spare part ($14.95) the SHIPPING WILL COST $35 for GROUND DELIVERY !!! That's over 2x what the part costs...so needless to say I'm buying another pressure cooker. My Advice - do not waste your time on this Spanish piece of **** !! Get something that works well and you can get spare parts for without getting ripped off !!! ... show more

    • Where has this thing BEEN all my life~???!
Had never used a pressure cooker before and decided on the Magefesa due to positive reviews AND the price was right~! I wasn't really up for spending $200.00 to experiment (Kuhn Rikon). The learning curve really didn't take too long between the manual (which must be newer than some because it was in English-although I must agree detailed instructions might have been a bit more helpful), online research, previous reviews, and a couple of cookbooks. WOW~! So far, I have cooked baby back ribs, pinto/refried beans, chuck roast, and mashed potatoes~! It is indescribable how much better food tastes~! Not to mention the swiftness of cooking~! It is not only a beautifully polished, gleaming piece of equipment but it is a solid, heavy duty pan all on it's own. I am IN LOVE~!!! ... show more

The metal parts are very durable of course, but the plastic handle of the lid broke by falling from the sink to the floor. I still use it despite being broken. It just looks bad, but it still holds pressure as normal.

I was a bit concerned about buying this because there was talk about it not being made in Spain but in China and complaints about the quality. I've looked all over it and the packaging and I can't see where it's made and to be honest I don't really care because the quality is outstanding ... it performs great and it's faster than any previous cookers I've owned. ... I made beef barley soup in 20 minutes today. I'm making pot roast over the weekend ... I'll keep you posted. ... show more

    • High maintenance
This pressure cooker works well once you get the lid sealed, but I find it difficult to seat the lid properly so the latch closes. When I think it's finally sealed, more often than not, steam escapes from under the lid. I have to cool off the pot, open the lid, check for any problems, and reseal the lid. Once I had a "eureka" moment when I found some dried food, but since then there has been nothing evident. The problem is made worse because, thinking 3.3 quarts might be a bit small, I ordered the 6.3 quart size, and it's quite heavy. I used to use my pressure cooker regularly. It's too much trouble to heft this heavy pot out of the cupboard and reseat the lid a couple of times. I'm just putting food on the stove in a 4 quart pot and letting it cook 3 or 4 hours instead. What a waste of fuel! This is pressure cooker #4 for me. I wish I'd never gotten rid of my old Mirro with the peeling Teflon. If I'd known then what I know now, I'd have tried to find some way to refurbish it or remove the remaining Teflon. They really don't make them like they used to. ... show more

Love it! SUPERIOR Quality. RECOMMEND NO SALT OR DISSOLVE ALL FORMS OF GRANULATED SALT TO PROTECT FROM PITTING THE BOTTOM. No regrets in buying this however you see it is made in Spain an the instructions are only in Spanish language.l. Recommend to anyone and everyone.
