I tried this color out of desperation due to having mild allergy symptoms to a demi permanent color as well as a few other permanent home colors. I'm praying to the hair color gods that this brand will be my hairs saving grace!!!! I applied the formula yesterday using 2 boxes as I have long hair. One problem I generally have I scalp itching and irritation during and after processing. The irritation was much less in comparison to other products I've used. I might add that I had washed my hair earlier in the day to remove product so my scalp was already drier and has been flaky for a few weeks. If I hadn't had that issue there likely could've been no irritation at all. The flow of the color is slower than other products asking it easier to control and less messy overall. I loved that it came with barrier cream, not one but 2 pairs of quality gloves, a processing cap AND color remover wipe!!! Bless this company for being so thoughtful these things make the process so much better!!! I will say the remover wipe works on skin and counters but left my neck red after. Also note that I have VERY sensitive skin and the irritation was gone by morning. The color felt dry in hair and not at all conditioning. Rinsing and washing went fine. The shampoo and conditioner provided also worked well and felt great. My hair did feel very dry afterwards but ....let's be honest it is long and has been processed several times with box color so I'll accept that. Also this is permanent color not a demi permanent gloss so there's that aspect. It's been less that 24 hours so my scalp is still slightly angry but I'm happy to report that my post coloring hair loss wasn't too bad. I'll see how things go in the weeks following but I'm really hoping that this is the brand for me because everything about the products provided as well as the excellent gray coverage and beautiful color I got are a win for me! ... show more

Okay, so i don't write many reviews but I have to tell ya'll that if you color your hair, use this product! It's the best hair color and packaging ever. I'm 65. I've been coloring my hair for a long time. This product is adorable and fun to use. The product not only completely covers all your grays first try but it's packaging is fun and considerate! It's all neatly packed into a sweet little box. You get your color, 2 pairs of black gloves, a black hair cap, pre-stain lotion for those places on your skin that stain, a wipe and shampoo & conditioner to use at the finish. I'm not going to the salon anymore. Why would i? $30, beautiful coverage, thicker, healthier hair and it's fun!? It's up to you but i think we're all worth this kind of pamering. I have been dying my hair at home since I was 14 (I’m 36) so I’ve pretty much tried it all. I have been late to the party on Madison Reed because I just didn’t think it could possibly be all that different than any other home dye. I’m happy to say I was wrong. I’m thrilled with the results. My hair is incredibly soft and healthy, even after I lightened it first. The formula is the texture of a thick body lotion when you apply it, and it spreads very nicely and clings to every hair - there is basically no smell. My literal only complaint is I really hated the smell of the shampoo and conditioner that came with it, but that’s a small price to pay for the quality of the rest of the experience. ... show more

This is the third time I’ve used this product. The best news is that it is available through Amazon, directly from the originating company so you know the contents of the box or color ingredients have not been tampered with. My order always arrives before the deadline date. The color is amazing, my hair feels so healthy after using the shampoo/conditioner, and it covers all the grays as promised. My hair grows fast, so the grays start to reappear after the 4th week. The application process is easy to use; I prefer to use a bowl and a brush, but you can use the bottle provided in the box. It was a tad darker than I thought it’d be, so next time I will go a shade lighter. I got this to cover all my gray hair, primarily in the front on my sides. My hair was completely covered for the entire time it recommended. I used all the product, but there were still spots in the sides and underneath that didn’t take the dye at all. I was bummed as I did it right before going to a concert, and I didn’t want my gray hair as an accessory, but it blended in well with the rest of the silver, I suppose. I appreciated the wipe to clean my skin. I could have used an extra one. Maybe that would have helped me be able to get into those areas more closely. I would buy it again, though. It lasts a good while. I did this end of April, and I think I am still covered about the same as I was then. Maybe a tad lighter. And it’s early July. I also wish it came with a root touch up kit, as that maybe could have fixed my issues and extended the life of the product. Hope this helps. ... show more

I really like all the things that came with the kit to help with the coloring process. I have used a lot of box dyes over and have been dying at home since I was a teenager. My hair after this dye was incredibly soft and silky! I have black hair and this color covers the black to a deep rich merlot red it's definitely noticable in the sun and in well lit areas, but subtle in lower light. If you are expecting a brighter color over dark hair this might not be it but I'm definitely obsessed and will probably use this as my go to fall color! ... show more

This was my first time using a Madison Reed coloring system. The instructions are nice and clear. I love that it gives you all the supplies needed, including two pairs of quality gloves! My hair is naturally curly, and I'm usually hesitant to color it and disturb my curl pattern. This color system was gentle, and I didn't notice any adverse consequences. Now for the results: I only noticed a subtle difference at first (starting off at dark brown), it did fade/lighten after few washes. It seemed as though others only just started to nice I colored my hair, and it's been over 2 weeks later. Even with it fading, it's still darker than what I would've liked (also why I got a color dramatically lighter than what I wanted). I have been coloring my hair for 30 years. I used to use Clairol Nice and Easy but my husband constantly complained about the smell. It was pretty bad. I also didn't like the color for the first week after I used it. It would take a couple of washings for it to settle into my hair. I saw an ad for Madison Reed and decided to try it. No smell, no harsh ingredients and gluten free! The color is beautiful the first day. I feel like it is better quality for my hair and worth spending a little bit more. Still cheaper than going to a salon! Cons: It is more money than Nice and Easy. I also don't like that I have to leave it on for 45 minutes. I have some grey and it really struggles to cover the greys. I used to use a shade lighter, but Madison Reed recommended I go a shade darker to cover the greys better.
