This charger works great. I have a 2013 Chevy Volt and this charger is perfect for it. After using it in a 120 V outlet for a could of months, I installed a 240 V outlet and couldn't be happier with the results. My car charges at 3.1 kW, which is the maximum. The app is not very useful, but that doesn't matter to me. I also wish the charger came with provision to hang it on the wall, even a couple of keyhole slots on the back would've been sufficient. As it is, I used some scraps of wood I had lying around to make a cradle for it. I would recommend this charger for anyone who has a car that works enough time parked at home that a level 1 or slow level 2 charger can keep it charged.

So sure, there's an app for the regular stuff like timing and other frivolous options but those are kind of pointless if all you want is to charge your car normally. However one feature that caught my eye immediately was the option to control how many amps your charger let through. While faster being better is usually the case, older homes without the robust wiring of newer homes may not be able to handle the full 16amps that a regular Level 1 charger would demand, especially if there are already multiple other appliances already plugged into the circuit. Older homes may also have weaker breakers, something that should be fixed in your home but won't have control over if you're visiting someone else. Being able to limit your used amps is an incredibly important thing, especially on non-EV dedicated circuits. And the best part about this charger is that you don't even need the app to do this. Note the little lighted ring under the screen, that is actually a touch sensor. Connect charger to wall, do not connect to car. Press and hold 3 seconds to get into function menu. Tap button to select "Change Current" option, hold for 3 seconds to confirm. You will now have the option of choosing from 6A, 8A, 10A, 13A, and 16A, press and hold for 3 seconds to confirm. Confirm that your charger is actually set to whatever amps you've chosen, plug into car for extra slow charging. The 25ft cable is very nice, long enough to keep the plug and box away from the rain. Overall this is a great charger to have if you do not have a dedicated charging circuit in your home. Product is helpful in a higher charging speed capacity. On/off control via app is handy. Did not install higher voltage socket for higher charging speed. Unfortunately, it is not recommended to change charging speed while plugged in to the vehicle. Another con is that plug is straight and not perpendicular, which causes the plug to pull slightly out of the socket due to the weight of the control box—this is alleviated with a small platform to support the box’s weight. Overall it does what I need at a great price.

I tested this on my Chevy Volt and it works well for basic usage. It has a premium feel and comes in the box already inside its carrying case meaning I carried it out to the car and plugged it in within minutes of unboxing it. Its 25ft cable allowed me to park the car in any orientation and plug it in without causing a tripping hazard. The charging speed is limited to 16A which is further limited by the Chevy Volt's 12A limit. Charging the 17KWh battery would take 15 hours at 110V using the included 110V NEMA 5-15 adapter. The Smart Life app shows charging statistics remotely without having to be physically at the charger. It is easy to connect it to WiFi and grant it access to the internet but otherwise the app is poorly translated and clunky to use. For instance, charging speed cannot be modified once the vehicle has begun charging. Any settings aside from starting and stopping are not well labeled and unintuitive. The delay function conflicts with the scheduled charging and must be manually set to 0 in order to enable scheduled charging. Overall this is an affordable charger with basic functionality but the slow charging speed and poor app control leaves much to be desired.

Obviously this isn't the 'state of the art' in EV chargers but for what it is it isn't bad. If you have somewhat minimal needs--needs that would be met by a lower price point Level 1 charger--this charger from AFYEEV should do the trick. The performance of this charger is pretty much what you'd expect. What I didn't expect was to find so many features usually associated with higher priced chargers. For starters, you've got all of the built in protections that you find in any EV charger from a legitimate manufacturer. That includes overheating protection, over voltage protection, under voltage protection, short circuit protection, etc. It has a waterproof rating of IP65 which should be adequate for just about any kind of weather. The charger plug has a nice long handle which makes it easier (and safer) to work with. Now for the features you *don't* necessary expect at this price point starting with WiFi connectivity and a smartphone app. You can remotely control and monitor most of the charging functions from your smartphone. You can also delay charging to a time when your overall electric consumption is low. Depending on how your electricity is billed, this may or may not matter much but you do have the option. The LED display isn't the most advanced you'll see but is a good size and does the job. Thanks to an included adapter you have a couple of power options in addition to the NEMA 6-20 plug. Finally, you've got a 25 foot extension cord and that's something you don't find even on much more expensive chargers. For most people, they'll want something more robust for a primary charging source. For a portable unit, however, it does a lot and costs very little. Highly recommended!

This portable charger does not work for my Chevy Equinox EV. I got a similar charger to this charger and it works fine. I can't figure out why this one won't charge. I can't say much about it since I can't use it.
