I’ve had many prong style thermometers. This is so much faster (a second) to take a temperature reading. That’s great so you don’t let all the heat out of the oven. I tested it against my other thermometers and it gave consistent readings, so I feel it is as accurate I would expect.

I've used many different thermometers over the years but most of the ones I purchased were on the lower end of the scale as far as thermometers go. This was my first instant read I've purchased but I have used others. I don't see any major difference in how this one works over some the cheaper instant read thermometers I've used. Frankly, I think an accurate basic thermometer is more practical, considering the much lower price point, for most home cooks. But for someone, such as myself, that often cooks at home and uses a thermometer fairly regularly, stepping up to an instant read with a good design makes sense if it's in your budget. As far as this one goes, I suggest buying it for it's design and features. Otherwise a cheaper instant read will perform similarly. You can find similarly designed thermometers as this one for a lower cost. If I was purchasing again I would likely get one of those or pay more something that is much more durable. Other than durability concerns I'm very happy with it. I just think I could have saved a few bucks and been just as happy with a different thermometer. ... show more

I've used this product for three years and it's been very reliable. I recently bought another brand for a friend when they were cooking chicken without a thermometer. That brand was unreliable. I opted to return that one and get this one. Sure, it's a little pricier than others but when you want to know if your chicken is at 165F that's not the time to unsure. Nice temperature gauge. Easy to use and love the ability to fold. Displays in both vertical and horizontal position which is a great plus. Compared accuracy to other temperature gauges I have and it appears to be quite accurate. It’s magnetic and has a nice feel to it.
