  • Great travel camera for a packed 3-week Southeast Asia trip
Color: Cosmic Black Set name: Standard Bundle
I just finished a 3-week trip through Southeast Asia and used the Luna as my only camera the whole time. Hit Bangkok (temples), Hanoi (street food/night markets), and Bali (beaches). I didn’t want to constantly switch gear, and this worked way better than I expected. The 20mm wide lens was honestly the MVP. Night markets get crowded, and I’m not trying to back into traffic just to get a decent shot, this let me capture everything without feeling like I was struggling for space. The 60mm zoom was perfect when I wanted closer detail. Temple carvings and patterns across courtyards look way more impressive when you can pull in a bit instead of just shooting from far away. Battery life was also solid for sightseeing days. I usually did charge at night, and it was enough for full days of walking and shooting. One more thing I didn’t expect to use as much as I did: the detachable screen. I ended up handing it to strangers so they could frame shots with me and landmarks in the background. I was worried it would be awkward, but it was surprisingly easy—and the pictures turned out great. Is it pricey? Yeah. But for what I brought home from this trip, it felt worth it. Overall: 5 stars. ... show more

  • Amazing camera for sports parents.
Color: Cosmic Black Set name: Standard Bundle
I bought the Insta360 Luna Ultra mainly to record my daughter’s volleyball games, and I’ve been really happy with it so far. I wanted something that could give me better video than my phone, but I also didn’t want to bring a big camera and a bunch of gear with me every time we went to a game. For volleyball I’ve mostly been shooting in 4K at 60fps. The 60fps makes a big difference with a fast sport like volleyball, especially when I’m trying to capture serves, spikes, blocks, and some of the quicker rallies. The footage looks smooth, and I also have more flexibility if I want to slow down a good play afterward. One feature I’ve ended up liking a lot more than I expected is PureVideo. Anyone who has kids playing indoor sports knows how wildly different the lighting can be from gym to gym. Some are really bright and others are surprisingly dark. PureVideo has been really useful in those darker gyms and helps me get cleaner, more usable footage without having to fight the lighting as much. I’ve also been experimenting with iLog. The Standard profile looks good without doing much to it, but I like having iLog available when I know I’m going to color grade the footage later. I’ve been grading my iLog footage in DaVinci Resolve Studio and have been able to get some really nice results from it. The zoom has also been more useful than I expected. At volleyball games you don’t always get to choose where you’re going to sit or stand, so being able to quickly change the framing is really convenient. I can shoot a wider view of the court and then zoom in when I want to concentrate on my daughter without carrying another lens or moving around the gym. I also really like how small the camera is. This might actually be one of my favorite things about it. Between chairs, bags, water bottles and everything else we’re already bringing to volleyball, the last thing I want is another big camera bag. I can bring the Luna Ultra along without really thinking about it. There is definitely a learning curve if you want to get everything you can out of the camera. I’ve spent some time experimenting with the manual exposure settings, iLog, and the different shooting modes. Bright outdoor shooting in particular took me a little experimenting to get the exposure where I wanted it. But you can also leave it in the easier automatic modes and get good footage without knowing all of that. Overall, I’m really happy with it. I originally bought it specifically for recording volleyball, but I’ve found myself using it for other things too because it’s so easy to bring along. If you’re a parent who records a lot of your kid’s games and wants something more capable than a phone without carrying around a full-size camera setup, the Luna Ultra is a really nice middle ground. ... show more

  • perfect Insta360
Color: Cosmic Black Set name: Standard Bundle
What stood out to me most wasn't the 8K video or the stabilization , it was the colors. I shot a ton of sunset scenes in Florence, and the gradients were so smooth, no banding at all. My wife even said the footage looked like something from a travel commercial. I didn't have to edit a single clip before sharing it with family. The detachable screen turned out to be an absolute lifesaver for group shots. I could just hand it to a stranger and they'd frame us perfectly in front of the Duomo – no more running back and forth to check if everyone was in the shot. We also used it to film ourselves walking through the streets without having to ask anyone for help. It made us feel like we were actually part of the video, not just stuck behind the camera the whole time. Battery life was solid: I charged it overnight and it lasted through full days of sightseeing. The only minor downside is the weight; after a while, you definitely notice it in your bag. But honestly, for what this thing delivers, I'd carry it anywhere. PERFECT ... show more

  • I am not disappointed. It’s a great little camera.
Color: Cosmic Black Set name: Standard Bundle
I went back-and-forth for a while between the Insta360 Luna and another popular brand. Obviously I chose the Luna and I am glad that I did one of the biggest selling points for me. Was the detachable touchscreen but it’s so much more than that. It gives beautiful video. It’s user-friendly fits in my purse easy to carry around with me and I have had so much fun with this camera and I’m a photographer and have the Sony FX three and though they serve two different purposes, this Insta360 Luna ultra holds its own. The battery life seems to do well and I think it’s a great value for the money. ... show more

  • Photographer's Take: Impressive Image Quality
Color: Cosmic Black Set name: Standard Bundle
Pros - Excellent image quality. The main and telephoto lenses deliver noticeably more detail and flexibility than a typical action camera. - Plenty of room to crop 8K footage while maintaining a sharp image. - Telephoto shots have a natural-looking background blur that doesn't feel overly processed. - Strong low-light performance, especially in PureVideo mode. - Leica color profiles look great straight out of camera and often need very little editing. - The detachable screen is surprisingly useful for solo shooting, remote framing, and group photos. Cons - The lens module makes the camera feel a bit front-heavy. - Preview performance can occasionally stutter at longer distances or when obstacles are between the screen and camera. - Not as rugged as a dedicated action camera, so I'd be more careful using it in rough environments. Overall If image quality is your top priority, this is probably the most impressive Insta360 camera I've used so far. ... show more

  • Filming my kids has never been easier
Color: Cosmic Black Set name: Standard Bundle
Bought this specifically because my kids never stay still and my phone footage always looked like a shaky mess. After one months with the Luna Ultra, I can honestly say this is the best kid-focused camera I've ever used. The active tracking is the real MVP. I just tap on my toddler's face, hand the camera to my wife, and it follows him wherever he goes. The 3-axis gimbal keeps everything buttery smooth even when she's running after him. I've captured stuff I never would've gotten before – him playing with the dog, running through the sprinkler, actually looking at the camera for more than half a second. The detachable screen is another win. I can set the camera on the floor at his level, step back with the screen in my hand, and capture genuine moments without him noticing he's being filmed. No more kids stopping everything to stare at the camera. Only complaint is the battery life,if you're filming a full day at the park or zoo, you'll want a spare. And at $770, it's not cheap. But for a parent who wants to actually capture their kids' childhood without carrying a bulky camera, it's worth it. ... show more

  • Needs refining
Color: Cosmic Black Set name: Standard Bundle
This is one of the most irritating Insta360 cameras I've ever owned. The quality is great but everything else is not so much. To pop off remote is useless if you're using the app. Controlling the movement of the camera could use some refinement. There's no external battery. The external camera mount made it hard to do certain things. ... show more

  • Good potential, but lots of dealbreakers
Color: Cosmic Black Set name: Standard Bundle
Edit: The seller offered me a replacement camera with a discount after I had returned it. The replacement had all the same issues. It was disappointing at first, but about 2 weeks later the gimbal issue was fixed via a software update. The only thing that's still an issue is the occasional dropped frame, but other than that its now a usable camera. It does drain battery when its just in storage, so you need to either constantly use it or charge it, otherwise the battery will degrade quickly. I do hope they eventually fix the frame dropping, but for slow shots without action its not really a problem unless you do a lot of panning. Original Below: To start with the good: The video quality is outstanding when it works. The best white balance I have ever seen on a camera, for the most true to life colors, especially in lower light situations i-log is nice and the dolby vision is pretty good. 3x telephoto is amazing. This is what sets this thing apart from a phone. paired with tracking it can make some interesting footage low light footage is actually decent, but nowhere near a fullframe camera. marginally better than a modern phone with a gimbal. it tracks well if the tracking starts when the camera is rear facing. The tracking is easy to enable. Gesture controls work well. audio quality seemed good, and the screen having a microphone is a cool feature. The bad: The gimbal is not very smooth, especially when panning at a 45 degree angle downward (what you would typically do if you turn 90 degrees and film how you are going down stairs) Overall just not very smooth, but this could be because the unit is defective, or it could be a software issue. (this is the reason i returned it, paired with bad autofocus) The detachable screen is cool, but i ended up never using it as if i touch the contacts with my skin and re-attach it, it always complained about the contacts being dirty. this might be a non issue if you have hands that are always dry and clean. The tracking behaves differently if you start it from selfie mode, its much slower in selfie mode than in the forward facing mode. When under sunlight the paint started to become sticky and made my hand black after holding it. The battery life is close to 1 hour. Sometimes the camera generates duplicate frames, when zooming and it cant process the sensor data fast enough. The joystick is button based, its not a true analog joystick. the zoom rocker also makes rattle noises. Autofocus is not good on the 3x lens. ... show more
